Kaidan Game Train: Abide Rule or Die! -
Chapter 817: Running for Life
Chapter 817: Chapter 817: Running for Life
After ten hours of rapid progress, the high physical expenditure had started to challenge some players. Moreover, despite such a long trek beside the tracks, there had been no significant changes in the adjacent space. From morning until evening, and now when it was supposed to turn dark again, it never did brighten up.
"Let’s stop and rest for a while," Duck Tongue Cap proposed. "I don’t see any danger for now, but that might change if we keep going."
Among the dozens of players, infighting was inevitable should anyone fall behind.
However, the conductor disagreed with stopping to rest. He had no obligation to take care of the players. After a brief communication, he simply informed the others of his decision to continue moving forward.
A few players gathered around. "We’re not refusing to move; we just want to rest for a bit. That’s not too much to ask, right? Besides, if there’s a problem with the space, what can be resolved in just ten or twenty minutes?"
Yet the conductor just scoffed. "Don’t forget, you all survived by hiding inside a train carriage that’s less than fifty meters long!"
In the face of the Storm, to live is to live, to die is to die, there is no room for struggle. Luck was the sole reason for anyone’s survival.
"Let’s all stick together whether we go or rest. If anyone isn’t willing to proceed, then we all rest together. Let’s put it to a vote, and the minority will follow the majority’s decision," a man with mutton chop beards stood forth.
"Those in favor of resting, raise your hands."
At a glance, the number of hands raised had already exceeded half the total, nearing two-thirds.
"I know your staff are all capable, but it won’t be easy for a few of you to take on so many players," said the man with mutton chop beards to the conductor. "Besides, with the nearby space instability, staying alive isn’t easy, but dying is quite simple."
This was putting pressure on the conductor’s throat, but the man didn’t get angry; instead, he nodded to his colleagues, signaling them to rest in place.
"There we go," the man with mutton chop beards smiled.
Xu Huo glanced at the players centered around the man with mutton chop beards, then at the conductor drinking water, before returning to the edge of the group.
After sitting down, he spoke to Yan Jiayu, "Let’s hang at the back when we start moving again."
Half an hour later, the group set off again, but less than five hundred meters out, several staff members appeared behind the man with mutton chop beards and his group, like Ghost Shadows. With the conductor standing solemnly in the front, hands crossed over his abdomen, he uttered the words "the rights of the train manager," and the throats of the man with mutton chop beards and his companions were slashed, leaving them frozen in place!
The dead were immediately laid on the ground, and the staff poured a Potion onto their bodies. In just one minute, the corpses dissolved into water and flowed onto the tracks.
An odd fragrance filled the air.
The conductor uncrossed his hands, then smilingly said to the others, "This is the essential kitchen Cleansing Potion for train staff: it can dissolve any living thing, pollution-free, residue-free, and odorless. Mastering the use of Cleansing Potion is a skill every employee has to learn."
"I’m basically traumatized by the word ’skill’ by now," a woman with curly hair commented.
Having easily dispatched the defiant players, the conductor didn’t threaten the others, turned his head, and kept on the road. In the two hours that followed, at least three players tried to attack the leading staff members, but each was invariably killed in retaliation.
Similary, the conductor didn’t seem to care much about the other players, killing anyone who tried to attack and ignoring the rest.
This was undoubtedly a signal to certain players.
The players began to kill each other, especially those without much food and water reserves.
Not every player had come to the station fully prepared. Many had been forced from one instance to another, and with the conductor’s three-day deadline now void, they had no idea how much longer they would need to run along the track at high speed. They had to act while they still had the strength.
Injured players, female players, and elderly players became prime targets. Pink Hair, who was alone and without companions, was attacked three times in secret. Despite being seriously wounded in the back, after successfully killing three players, no one bothered her again.
There were successes and failures elsewhere, and Xu Huo also encountered an attack. Their target was Jinxed Appearance, but since he and Yan Jiayu responded without hesitation, the attacker didn’t persist after their ambush failed.
"Thanks so much," Jinxed Appearance sincerely expressed his gratitude.
"Don’t mention it," Yan Jiayu patted his shoulder. "We’re all from the same carriage; we need to help each other to wait for rescue."
"You’re right!" An middle-aged woman who had kept her distance came running back, chuckling, "Let’s all make it onboard safely together!"
The others ignored her but didn’t drive her away. Besides her, a few players moved from the middle of the group to the rear, including Pink Hair and Duck Tongue Cap.
Another whole night without rest, even Yan Jiayu could hardly bear it any longer. Xu Huo used kite string to lift her up. "Keeping the line shorter should be fine."
"No problem at all," Yan Jiayu cheerfully said. "It’s so comfortable flying like this!"
The players had used various props to save energy, but mechanized tools were difficult to benefit from significantly. The energy used by cutting-edge technology was different and might not work near the tracks, and if used, it had a time limit.
An elderly man had a small cart to ride, which Jinxed Appearance barely managed to get on, but every so often, they had to let him walk a distance as the cart would alarm if overloaded.
The woman knitting was generous, giving two female players and a man who had severed his hand in the same carriage each a knitted large dog figure. Although it could only be used for ten minutes every two hours, it provided a chance to rest.
Looking at Xu Huo who had not rested throughout and showed no signs of fatigue, Jinxed Appearance envied, "You must have evolved specially."
"I’m an athlete by profession, my feet have special Characteristics, they don’t tire from walking," Xu Huo grinned.
"Old Xu, want to come up here? I can pull you along?" Yan Jiayu called out from above.
"No need," Xu Huo said. "When I’m tired, I’ll let you know."
Yan Jiayu, not one for false pleasantries, quickly produced a cushion to sit upon in the front, complete with a soft support, and laid out some snacks and jerky there. Using a windproof Prop, she covered herself, comfortably cracking seeds while flying.
Those around envied the sight, each wishing to stop for a rest and a decent meal, but daring to stop meant falling behind, and the conductor certainly wouldn’t wait for them!
It wasn’t until nine in the morning that daylight came.
After spending two days and three nights in darkness, the sight of daylight relaxed all the players. At just the right time, the conductor also halted, clearly stating that it was now safe to rest, though rescue might arrive a bit late.
The players responded, unconcerned, it didn’t matter, as long as rescue was coming, and that was good enough.
