Chapter 815: Chapter 815: Orbital Mystery Murder
"What’s the point of knowing when it all started?" Jinxed Appearance said, "Wormhole Points have queued up to E. How many Wormhole Points are ahead? It’s at least a matter of one or two hundred years. Knowing that doesn’t help at all."
"It’s not necessarily useless," Yan Jiayu replied. "Maybe we can travel through time and space."
Jinxed Appearance laughed, "Stop joking, time travel doesn’t exist. If it did, don’t you think those Super Players and Advanced Players would want to turn back time?"
"That’s true," Yan Jiayu said in a relaxed tone. "But thinking like this doesn’t hurt us, right? If we could turn back time, we could return to before the game started. If not, at least we remain hopeful before knowing the final outcome, so no matter what, we’re not at a loss."
The people around them fell silent before an elder burst into laughter, "You’re right, hope is always better than no hope!"
"Silver linings," the woman knitting murmured with her head down.
Xu Huo remained silent.
Under the lights, the players chatted for a while before retreating to rest on their own.
Around midnight, two men and two women left one after another along the track.
They stepped outside the range of the light, and everyone knew what they were up to. Two other male players got up, interested in joining, but after walking just a few steps, they suddenly turned on a nearby player who was initially tucking his feet in to make way. He was caught by surprise and slashed on the arm. In response, he unleashed a Prop—two balloons enveloped their heads and quickly tightened!
"Pop, pop!" The balloons burst quickly, and the two male players pounced on him, their Props ready to strike!
Despite many bystanders, it was inevitable that some got involved—the skirmish involving three players quickly escalated to five. These five hadn’t even settled their scores when those who had left earlier also ran into trouble. A woman’s shrill, furious scolding echoed back to them, followed by the sound of a fight breaking out.
"Maybe they found out halfway through that the goods weren’t as advertised!" someone snickered lewdly.
A few minutes later, two female players returned, the same young pair from Xu Huo’s carriage. Each carried a head, bloodstained. The curly-haired female player tossed what she was holding down, sneering, "If anyone else thinks with what’s in their pants, I’ll scoop out their brains and make them eat it!"
The two male players who had been ready to join in stopped, their expressions sullen.
Someone applauded, "Now that’s how you fish—impressive!"
The short-haired female player turned red with anger, while the curly-haired one pulled her towards where Xu Huo sat.
The two women did not want to sit near the male players, so they joined the woman who was knitting.
Yan Jiayu sat up and said, "Those two were following you, and you weren’t even a few meters apart."
"What are you implying!" The short-haired female player could no longer contain herself, and exploded with anger, "Even if I wanted a man, I wouldn’t settle for those creeps!"
"What she means is, if you were wary, why didn’t you fend off those two from a hundred meters away?" Xu Huo said. "Not everyone necessarily means harm."
The two women were stunned, then the short-haired one ground her teeth and said bitterly, "It’s too lenient a death for them!"
"They must have used a Prop. We didn’t feel anyone behind us at all. It was only when they got close that they gave themselves away!" The curly-haired player said coldly, "Shameless to use Props for such things!"
"Do you not do the same, buying lipstick to sleep with your idol?" Jinxed Appearance interjected.
"Consent and force are the same thing to you? What’s inside your head, brains or water?"
Jinxed Appearance waved his hands frantically, "I can’t offend, I’ll stop talking."
The two were clearly angered by his attitude, but had no rebuttal. However, Yan Jiayu swiftly stepped on Jinxed Appearance’s foot with such speed that it elicited a sharp cry from him.
"That’s a strange noise you make," Yan Jiayu noted.
Jinxed Appearance’s face reddened with anger. "Are you looking for a fight?"
"Not at all," said Yan Jiayu. "I just stepped on it by accident. Sorry about that, it’s just that you put your foot under mine."
"I moved my foot there? You think just because you’re a woman you can get away with blatant lies?" Jinxed Appearance shouted.
Yan Jiayu looked exasperated, "I’ve already apologized, why are you being so petty, making a mountain out of a molehill?"
"I’m making a mountain out of a molehill!" Jinxed Appearance kicked off his shoes and stood up, "You ’accidentally’ stepped on my foot so hard it’s swollen, and I’m petty?"
"Brother," Xu Huo stood up, placing a hand on his shoulder, "be a bit more magnanimous. It was a bit too much, but an apology has been made. Besides, force works both ways; if you’re in pain, she feels it too."
"Are those the same?!" Jinxed Appearance tried to shrug him off but failed, turning to meet Xu Huo’s gaze head-on. Suddenly silenced, he looked around at the others—the card players, the elder, Yan Jiayu, the knitting woman—all of whom watched him with cold eyes.
"Fine!" Jinxed Appearance bit down, "It was me who started it, my fault."
Xu Huo let go of him, and Yan Jiayu smiled, saying, "Don’t be angry, I’ll make it up to you with something tasty."
Jinxed Appearance, clearly in need of food, hesitated for a while before accepting.
The curly-haired player couldn’t help but laugh and handed him a Self-Healing Potion, "You’re kind of cute."
"Don’t tease me," Jinxed Appearance moved a bit further away.
The elder chuckled heartily, "Young people are so full of life."
"You’re the kindest people I’ve met," the short-haired female player said, adoringly stroking her own hair.
But the curly-haired player countered, "What’s the use of cutting your hair? For some, it doesn’t matter if you’re pretty or ugly, fat or thin—as long as you’re breathing, they’ll be tempted."
"It’s true that girls are more likely to encounter bad things," the elder cautioned. "But you still need to be careful. The earlier incident was off. If those two players intended to use force, they should have tried to subdue you first, not immediately get handsy."
The two exchanged a look, their expressions growing serious.
In the game, the differences in strength that male and female physicality usually conferred were diminished. Those two male players certainly wouldn’t have been reckless enough to disregard the possibility of the female players fighting back, especially since when the four left, it looked more like a prearranged agreement.
If it wasn’t the women sending out false signals to lure others into a trap, then someone else must have interfered.
From the current situation, however, it appeared more likely that the two female players were the bait.
But separating from the group to meet privately didn’t make sense to Xu Huo, even if two women stripped naked and called for the men, the male players shouldn’t have followed so easily.
The specifics weren’t clear, especially since it occurred on the track with so many people around, any possibility existed. However, such an incident was unlikely to repeat, so there was no need to delve too deeply.
