Kaidan Game Train: Abide Rule or Die!
Chapter 814: Staff’s Area of Expertise

Chapter 814: Chapter 814: Staff’s Area of Expertise

The scenery near the orbit was almost perpetually unchanged, lacking any breeze or the sounds of animals and plants; it was beautiful and tranquil like a drawing.

At this time, it was almost eight o’clock in the evening; nightfall near the orbit was nothing like the usual sunset or sunrise—it could switch from day to night in an instant.

"Do you think there will be Aliens after it gets dark?" a female player asked.

"Probably not," someone said. "Isn’t all the surrounding area just water? Unless the Aliens can swim or have developed fish-like abilities. But as far as I know, Aliens that have devolved to that point are not very strong in combat."

"Either way, we’d better not light any lamps at night," the old man sharing the compartment with Xu Huo said. "It’s safer for everyone that way."

No one objected.

In less than twenty minutes, the bright sky suddenly darkened, transitioning to complete darkness within a few seconds.

"It’s so dark," Yan Jiayu said.

It was pitch black to the point where you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face; even players could only judge others’ positions by the sound of breathing and the air moved when someone shifted. To avoid unnecessary disputes, everyone chose to stay put.

Xu Huo was sitting on the edge; to his and Yan Jiayu’s left were the male players who had played cards in their same compartment earlier in the day. They had left early, so they occupied the center seats in the three compartments; all of them had survived.

To the right were the old man and the woman knitting, next to them were those two female players, and then the people from the other compartments. The injured player and the middle-aged woman were in the central position.

After the previous events, everyone naturally felt that the center was safer than the edges, resulting in a denser crowd in the middle and a looser one on the sides.

The orbit wasn’t much wider than the carriage itself; sitting back-to-back or face-to-face wasn’t very safe. Most chose to stay in the center of the track, not allowing any other players to approach from the front or back.

Looking forward along the track, Xu Huo saw a woman player take out a dry piece of meat to eat.

The sound of chewing and the subtle smell caught the attention of those around her; some players instinctively looked in her direction. The female player realized this and smiled, "Is anyone hungry?"

It was common for Cannibal Players to be on the train, and at this point, even those with a strong sense of justice would not dare to confront her. Everyone remained silent, and the female player hummed to herself as she continued to eat.

But soon, two or three people in the group changed their demeanor, betraying covetous, intoxicated looks toward those sitting beside them in the darkness.

Within just a few minutes, the atmosphere tensed up.

"Snap!" With that sound, a sudden light appeared in the center of the track. The intense illumination covered a radius of nearly a hundred meters almost instantaneously. The lighting Prop’s handler patted the lamp, "Don’t worry, there are no Aliens nearby. The environment here along the orbit is extremely harsh, and even Aliens capable of cannibalism would starve to death if they came here. The light will not attract any danger."

A player abruptly stood up, "Just because you say so? What if there are still Aliens alive nearby? If you really attract Aliens, are you going to drag us down with you?"

The other players remained silent, as the crew beside the train conductor all turned their gaze on the man.

"Idiot, you’re willing to risk your life just for a bite to eat," mocked a player wearing a Skull Duck Tongue Cap.

The train conductor surely knew more about the surroundings of the track than the players; since they couldn’t leave and dared to light up boldly, it indicated no risk or a manageable one. Under such circumstances, the lighting made everyone safe, and to interfere suggested a person had something to hide, didn’t it?

"What did you say?" the man turned back.

"I said you’re an idiot," the Duck Tongue Cap player said with a smile, "Everyone here except you agrees with the lighting. Are you trying to do something while no one can see, or are you too starved to think straight?"

A Pink Hair female player, who had been playing a game, looked up and glanced at the man, "Cannibal Players should learn to keep a low profile. Haven’t you figured out how to blend in by now?"

The man sneered, suddenly raising his finger in Pink Hair’s direction. It wasn’t clear what Prop he used, but a pink bubble barrier rose at her side, struck by an unseen force that created a mini vortex. In an instant, iron spikes burst from the ground, piercing the man’s feet!

The man screamed in agony, then quickly withdrew his feet, holding four different small Props in his hands, poised to throw them at Pink Hair. Suddenly, a transparent cylinder beaded with water droplets covered him from above. Gel-like, as soon as the man was encased, he became a statue, frozen in place. There was a brief struggle in his eyes as they shifted sideways, then blood sprayed forth, and from a complete person, he turned into a bloodied figure trapped in a bubble.

It seemed he had been squashed flat.

The transparent cylinder disappeared, and standing behind him was one of the train crew.

The train conductor spoke meaningfully, "Everyone working on the train has their unique abilities."

After that, no one dared to object, and everyone sat down to rest, including the brazen female player who had been snacking.

"The train crew were players before, right?" Yan Jiayu said, "I wonder how they got onto the train."

"The train crew are all veteran Wormhole Point players who underwent extensive training," the old man interjected, explaining, "Those Wormhole Points have been part of the game for a long time; many people were born in the game world, and from a young age, they knew only the superpower world, so they didn’t resent it at all. Working on the train is just like applying for a job before I became a player."

"And they don’t resent it?" Jinxed Appearance male player chimed in, "The game world isn’t normal at all; didn’t anyone resist?"

"You compare it with the old world, and you’ll understand. People are used to it, and when faced with injustice, only a minority protest. Most just want to survive," the old man said, continuing, "The same goes for the past and now."

The difference might be that people used to take petty theft for granted; now they just take murder for granted.

That’s the way the world is.

"If only there were no games," Jinxed Appearance said reflectively, "I used to stay up all night playing games, and now just hearing ’games’ makes me sick."

"You’re still young; who knows how things will change in the future?" the old man said with a smile, "The terminal diseases of the past are no different from a common cold now. For someone like me who was close to death’s door, I can possibly live another decade or two—nothing is certain."

"When did games first come into existence?" Xu Huo interjected, "Has it been a century?"

The old man shook his head slightly, "I don’t know about that, but I’ve heard that the C9 Wormhole Point has a gaming district that places great importance on time. The craftsmen there who make clocks have been recording time for generations, and perhaps they know the origin of game time."
