Kaidan Game Train: Abide Rule or Die!
Chapter 809: Ill-intentioned Visitor

Chapter 809: Chapter 809: Ill-intentioned Visitor

"Save me... save me..." someone cried out to them for help, as those who could see them were buried quite shallowly, so Yan Jiayu would sometimes pull people out first, while others were told to wait.

"Miss, please save me..." a middle-aged man wailed, lying on the ground, "I can’t move my leg... other people have lives, I have a life too, why are you choosing who to help first..."

Yan Jiayu went over to take a look, "Uncle, your shoe is just stuck, you should be able to crawl out if you try a bit harder."

"It’s no use... my leg is injured and I can’t move it..." the middle-aged man roared with a strong voice.

As he started making a fuss, some of the lightly injured people who had been rescued came over and told Yan Jiayu to go help others, saying they’d take care of him.

"His leg might really be injured." Yan Jiayu single-handedly dragged the middle-aged man out, perhaps not too gently, which caused his calf to be sliced open by a nearby steel bar, leaving a long gash.

The middle-aged man screamed miserably, and Yan Jiayu, holding him up, made him stand straight, and patted him on the shoulder, saying, "Blood but no tears, keep it up!"

The middle-aged man’s expression twisted as if he wanted to say something, but the next second, Yan Jiayu poked his neck and he fainted.

She clapped her hands briskly and walked away, the others quieting down at the sight. There were those who had been clamoring to have the injured taken to the hospital first, but now they were silent.

Half of the collapsed building was still propped up in mid-air by props, and the two of them didn’t waste time, trying to rescue whoever they could. However, for some who were trapped in bad spots and with no medical personnel present, they did not move them.

But after the rescue players from Zone 009 arrived, the injured were swiftly evacuated.

The nearby fighting hadn’t ended yet, but people from the player organizations consciously led the battle away, preventing the building from being affected again, thus the rescue went relatively smoothly.

Of course, there were also players with ulterior motives approaching, but they were few, and the rescue players were enough to handle them.

But the good scene didn’t last long, a loud alarm sounded, and the rescue players began to retreat, "It’s going to collapse, move fast!"

Xu Huo and Yan Jiayu each carried two people out of the rubble, and just as they took cover in a nearby street, the building, supported by props, fell down, crashing onto the ruins once again.

The dust-covered smoke billowed over, and Yan Jiayu sighed deeply, murmuring a prayer toward the direction of the debris.

Xu Huo looked calmly at the figures running through the dust—men and women, old and young, both players and ordinary people—insignificant as ants.

"What’s the point of saving them?" a player from Zone 009 nearby muttered, "Even if they are rescued, they might just live a little longer. What’s the difference between dying underneath the rubble and dying on the way to the hospital?"

"The difference is huge." Yan Jiayu turned to the person and said, "In the game, both players and ordinary people have a hard time, but if we give up now, things will definitely be harder in the future. Everyone wishes for better days ahead; we can’t just give up hope, right?"

"Besides, if you save ten people and only one survives, still, one person survived."

"Who knows, maybe the one who survives will become a very strong player in the future?"

Her face was dirty, but her eyes were full of hope, "You reap what you sow, good seeds planted will surely grow good fruit!"

"Don’t give up on yourself, brother!"

The player, who was just starting to feel warmed by her pep talk, choked, "...I haven’t given up on myself..."

Yan Jiayu shook her head. "If you’re willing to give up on the things happening right before your eyes, doesn’t that count as giving up on yourself?"

The expressions of those around her grew complex, no longer as full of sorrow as before.

After making her point, Yan Jiayu turned back, staring at the chaotic streets for a while before saying, "I wonder if we’ll be able to have dinner tonight..."

"It shouldn’t be long before the player organization wraps things up," Xu Huo said. "Cleaning up the battlefield isn’t our job. We should be able to make it in time for a meal."

Then, the two of them followed the rescue players to help out for a while; when the sounds of fighting calmed down, and other members of player organizations came out to check for possible left-behind spoils of war, it was not appropriate for players like Xu Huo and Yan Jiayu to stay any longer.

They left the player organization’s blockade ahead of time.

To thank them for their help, one rescue player gave them a business card for a nearby hotel that could provide accommodation.

After washing up, the two ordered a meal and watched the news while eating.

The situation in Zone 009 continued to worsen. Almost every hour, small-scale conflicts erupted within the Capital Safe Zone. Several small safe zones outside the area had completely fallen, with a staggering number of deaths.

"I hope this kind of thing doesn’t happen in Zone 014," Yan Jiayu muttered to herself. "It would be best if we could get our hands on a few large-scale defense props..."

Night arrived quickly. Xu Huo slept for a while before heading to the exhibition hall to see the Awakening Doll; on his return, he took a detour to the collapsed government building from the daytime.

Everything inside the building had been moved with no props left behind. He tried using a detector but only found that there were bodies in the rubble—the players who had died inside had been removed, while some office staff remained buried below.

He wasn’t surprised.

After standing in front of the building for a while, Xu Huo left. Even with the Invisibility Prop Suit, he still felt several gazes upon him on the road, but that was all.

He returned to the hotel without incident, but before dawn, many players had gathered outside the hotel and their room.

Yan Jiayu immediately woke up, "They’ve come for us."

The two exchanged glances, neither expecting anything good. Zone 009 certainly wouldn’t be coming to thank them for yesterday’s rescue, the interest must be because of that player suspected of being a member of the Holy Sword Society.

"Knock, knock, knock!" someone knocked on the door. "I represent the Capital Safe Zone. Could I have a word with the two of you?"

"Come in," Xu Huo called out.

A slightly overweight middle-aged man walked in, his face exuding kindness. "My name is He Minghui, but you can call me anything you like. I’m here today on behalf of the Capital Safe Zone. First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude to you both for lending a helping hand."

The three of them sat down, and Xu Huo said, "It was the least we could do, there’s no need for such formality."

He Hui smiled genially. "Of course, it’s necessary. To express our gratitude, we’ve also prepared a small gift, which is currently on its way here."

Xu Huo thanked him, then fell silent, watching the man. Yan Jiayu didn’t make small talk either, and the three sat there in an awkward silence.

After a while, it was He Hui who spoke first, "There’s something a bit difficult to say, but I would like to verify something with you. However, I must state upfront that your goodwill towards Zone 009 is beyond question. It’s just that our losses yesterday were too severe, and we didn’t achieve the expected results. After much thought, I realized that the only way forward was to try and reconstruct the details, so I’ve taken the liberty of coming to ask you both."
