Chapter 808 New Clue
Chapter 808: Chapter 808 New Clue
Though the player had many good items, Xu Huo and Yan Jiayu teamed up but still couldn’t gain the upper hand for a while.
The three of them were stuck inside the building because the chasing player had used props to seal the entire building, so including that government player, no one was able to leave.
The neighboring floors had been battered with holes everywhere. The chasing player, not wanting to be entangled endlessly with Xu and Yan, used defensive props to drive them back and then suddenly accelerated, launching an attack on the government player suspected of carrying important items!
Being unable to leave the building, the government player lingered nearby. He, too, wanted to join forces with Xu Huo and Yan, but unable to interject, he conscientiously cleared the area. When he saw his adversary rushing toward him, panic overwhelmed him, and he hurriedly threw down two or three props to buy time and turned to flee.
"No escape!" The chasing player employed a prop, and the fleeing man uncontrollably slid backward, right when he was about to take a life; suddenly, a thin line snared his wrist!
The chasing player frowned, used a cleansing prop unsuccessfully to remove the thin line, and was distracted as he glanced back at Xu Huo and Yan Jiayu. But in the next second, his hand was cleanly severed!
The face of the chasing player drastically changed, and he immediately retreated, pulling up his sleeve, only to find that the prop garment he wore outside was useless, and the same thin line appeared on his arm... In the following seconds, his hands and feet dropped off like chunks of soft butter!
Xu Huo and Yan Jiayu simultaneously retreated, while the government player who had been panicking moments ago flicked his finger and neatly severed his own adversary’s head.
This development was unexpected, but then they saw moving thin lines flying out from the corpse, slithering back into the hand of the government player like a snake.
"Thanks for helping me buy time; otherwise, killing him would have been a bit difficult," said the player with a smile to the two men. "Is there anything I can help you with?"
Many players had gathered outside the building; Xu Huo put away his sword and said, "We want to know the identity of this person and the murderous paper in his hand."
"Let me see." The government player readily checked, his expression sinking slightly: "The paper he used for killing isn’t in the prop panel."
"However, a prop that powerful is likely to be one-time-use."
"As for his identity, I found this in his luggage compartment."
He tossed over a thin booklet which Xu Huo caught and saw, to his surprise, it was a Holy Sword Society code of conduct manual.
"So he was from the Holy Sword Society," Yan Jiayu glanced over.
Xu Huo wasn’t the only one present who had dealt with the Holy Sword Society before. The government player said, "If he was from the Holy Sword Society, it isn’t surprising. They are an organization of mixed repute. If you’re planning to trouble them, it might be difficult because the players who appeared here today aren’t very strong."
After he finished, he cleaned up the corpse on the ground.
Yan Jiayu and others walked away, tearing off a sticker from his face and asking, "Is what this man said true? Was the handbook his or the murdered player’s?"
"Hard to say," replied Xu Huo. "This round today seemed like a trap specifically to lure these people out."
Yan Jiayu nodded slightly, "Regardless of what was targeted for theft, the death of so many players isn’t worth it."
"That paper definitely wasn’t a one-time-use prop; I’m not sure if it was moved ahead of time or if that person was lying."
"It shouldn’t be difficult," Xu Huo said. "Previously, we didn’t know the method of killing. Since it involves a paper where names can be written and may relate to the Holy Sword Society, finding relevant information shouldn’t be hard."
"After all, back in Zone 014, the Holy Sword Society did indeed come to stir up trouble."
"She has a point, but I think if it were the Holy Sword Society, would they really entrust such a powerful prop to a few players of mediocre skills?" Yan Jiayu said.
She and Xu Huo were only Level D Players.
"There’s no use delving into their reasons," Xu Huo replied. "Whether these people were decoys or it’s merely a matter of chance, it doesn’t matter. We didn’t come out completely empty-handed."
Yan Jiayu smiled. "That’s true."
After speaking, she turned to look at the Stone Lion, which had already skillfully laid down to nap. With a swing of her staff, she struck!
The Stone Lion jumped up, and after a reserved exchange of blows, Yan Jiayu finally stowed it in her prop slot.
"If I don’t hit it daily, it won’t obey," she explained.
Xu Huo nodded in understanding, as he had never before seen a prop that "slacked off" during combat.
Though they hadn’t gotten what they wanted this time, they at least had gathered some clues. As they left, Yan Jiayu asked him if there were any bounty platform slots left for this month, since she had already used hers up.
"I’ve used mine too," Xu Huo said. "We’ll see when we get to Zone 011, there’s more information in that sector."
Suddenly, a series of explosions sounded from the government building, and two large buildings began to sway and then collapse, prompting a frantic fleeing—not just from civilians but players as well.
Yan Jiayu looked in that direction. "There’s a player rescue buffer expected to land soon, I need to go help."
"Together," Xu Huo said.
The two quickly headed towards the site of the incident.
The players of Zone 009 did their best, with some using advanced items to support the two buildings halfway up, but even that couldn’t withstand continued attacks. The damaged buildings began to lean in different directions and started to collapse.
Even elite players found it difficult to rush in and rescue people at this moment. After all, the buildings could collapse in seconds, leaving no time to pull people out. They chose to dodge first, planning to conduct rescues once the buildings had fallen.
Fortunately, an evacuation had been ongoing since the incident began. Otherwise, the casualties today might have been more than just hundreds.
Xu Huo and Yan Jiayu were quick. They managed to pull out two people from the nearest point before the buildings hit the ground. Then, following several loud bangs, copious amounts of dust and debris blasted in all directions, clouding the sky!
Xu Huo backed off to a nearby building to avoid it. Once the sound of the collapse lessened slightly, he donned protective gear and jumped onto the ruins.
Locating people was not too difficult, but those buried deep required heavy machinery for their extraction.
Yan Jiayu handed him a small flag, "Use this. If you can’t get someone out, mark them. Players from Zone 009 will come back to rescue them later."
These were small props; each flag had "There’s someone here" written on it. Xu Huo inserted one at his feet, and immediately, "Directly below ten meters," scrolled across the flagpole.
Once he marked them, Yan Jiayu, accompanied by Da Mao, came over to dig. They quickly rescued nearly thirty people from underneath the debris. Some didn’t survive long after being rescued, but the majority were still alive.
For those who could move, Yan Jiayu provided some food and water, asking them to help take care of the severely injured.
