Chapter 663: Wipe Out a Safe Zone
Chapter 663: Chapter 663: Wipe Out a Safe Zone
After the initial chaos, players who had gathered failed to find the intruder’s trace and began to disperse, except for important locations in the safe zone, and the conference building also started to search from the top floor down—until some players suspected the office staff running around to be the intruder and began violently capturing them.
Because some of these people barely started their search when they discovered the building had collapsed!
Once cracks or breaches appeared, the entire building began to collapse, accompanied by shrill screams. The building collapsed from the higher floors first, and as the fallen floors and the heavy roof’s weight came crashing down, it pierced through the nearest layer below. Each new collapse added weight and continued to damage the layer beneath, repeating the cycle until the building completely collapsed!
Players who escaped were stunned, especially those who had taken action: "What kind of shoddy construction was this!"
However, the higher-ups in the safe zone knew this was no ordinary event, because when designing the safe zone, every part of the area, including the walls and communal facilities, even underground, were reinforced with metal layers to guard against players who used water and fire. How could such a building collapse naturally!
"Don’t just stand there, go catch him; it was definitely that intruder who did this!" a core governmental official slammed his fist onto a nearby rubbish bin.
The metal rubbish bin toppled over, tumbling and rolling to the base of a streetlight, which then began to disintegrate!
Not only that, but all streetlight bases on the street outside the building were also disintegrating. As the lights went out, visibility dimmed, but it didn’t end there. Nearby buildings also began to collapse one after another—with the continuous extinguishing of public area lights, this disintegration, taking the conference building as its epicenter, began to spread in all directions of the safe zone!
"The metal is disintegrating; let’s isolate the safe zone quickly!" Players who caught a glimpse of what was happening began to act. They initially thought the item’s effect might have conditions that wouldn’t spread if isolated, or factors like "visibility" or distance, but attempts to protect individual metal objects or a single building failed to stop the effect—he metal still disintegrated, moving past their attempts to protect more metal.
This safe zone wasn’t built for particularly urgent situations, so it was extensive, with many structures within. When the governmental officials of Country Y realized they couldn’t stop the metal from disintegrating, they shifted their focus to saving buildings. As long as they didn’t collapse immediately, there might be fewer casualties.
Unfortunately, under such panic, nobody wanted to stay inside buildings, and when too many people started running, the buildings resonated, bringing them closer to collapse!
Everywhere one looked was a scene of disaster, and everywhere one listened were screams of terror. A long-haired player stood in front of the building’s rubble, eyes blazing with overwhelming hatred, "The item’s effect is centered around this building, the person must still be inside, find him for me!"
A crowd of players responded loudly and plunged into the rubble.
But the building had already collapsed; there might be small gaps in the middle, but unless they blew up what was on top, no amount of digging with their bare hands could extract a person, and not to mention, many were still buried inside.
"Cordon off this area for me; I don’t believe he can fly away!" the long-haired player bellowed in rage.
Although others thought it more likely the intruder, being alone, had fired a shot and then hidden in the game, they still followed his command.
But before the armored vehicles could encircle the area, a figure lightly brushed past players rescuing the injured.
"He’s out!" a player quickly intercepted the figure, clapped his hands, and buildings collapsed towards the middle from both sides!
The figure leaped agilely in the air to dodge the attack, moving quickly through the air as if weightless, and ran towards the outside of the safe zone!
"Chase!" With a command from the long-haired player, a large group of players swarmed down, leaving only a few who were not good at fighting to coordinate with ordinary staff to rescue the injured."
"There’s someone here!" A player pulled Xu Huo, who was lying face down, to his feet; seeing his head covered in blood, he immediately called for a stretcher and instructed his companion to carefully carry him to get treated."
The temporary medical station was nearby, and many severely injured people were waiting for help. After a brief inquiry with the "recently awakened" Xu Huo, a doctor gave him a sticker for minor injuries and asked him to wait outside."
Disguised, Xu Huo followed the bustling crowd and left the medical station, blending into the throng heading toward the safety zone’s gate."
The gate of the safe zone no longer existed; it had turned into a pile of dust along with the fence. The entry of rescue and armored vehicles had collapsed the ground, leaving many cars stuck on the road and causing a short-lived traffic jam."
Ordinary people were already living in the safe zone, but now, even more, were trying to flee outside."
After shaking off the player from Country Y, Girl in the Painting doubled back, and the two hid out of sight. Xu Huo changed clothes and put the paper Girl in the Painting on his back again, and they reached the gate without any trouble."
Just then, he unexpectedly saw Nicks hurriedly returning. Nicks wasn’t using any item or ability and had put away "Three Seconds of a Lifetime"; he was pushing through the crowd in front of him, impatiently urging them on."
"Too late." Nicks glanced at where the safety zone used to be and then scanned the passing crowd, asking, "Where is he?"
"Philip went after him," a player reported."
Nicks didn’t relax his vigilance because of this. His eagle-like gaze swept over the crowded people around him, "Be careful, the enemy might have inside and outside help. Spatial Artifacts cannot be used, and if the opponent hasn’t entered the game, they might still be nearby. Set up checkpoints; no one is allowed to leave."
Xu Huo was clear that Nicks might be using a Spatial Artifact to track him when he had reached the vicinity of the safety zone. That’s why he was a step behind, and after arriving first, he had used "Three Seconds of a Lifetime" to block the use of Space-Time Items in the area. It wasn’t possible for Nicks to have returned so quickly upon receiving the news of the safety zone being attacked."
Noticing the opponent’s gaze locking onto him, he smiled faintly and teleported for the second time with "The Shortest Distance Between Two Points."
Nicks followed for the second time."
The second location was also a safety zone; this time, Xu Huo was even luckier. He landed in a small square with a bronze sculpture within reach—a bullfighting statue!
With one hand on the sculpture, he used "Like Repels Like" together with "Beautiful Ray" at maximum speed. Nicks, rushing toward him, dodged the ray and leaped over Xu Huo’s head, throwing down three black pellets and squeezing the head of a rubber doll hanging on his waist!
Just as Xu Huo was about to dodge, he suddenly felt an excruciating headache causing a moment of stiffness in his actions. As the pellets were about to smash into him, Girl in the Painting flew out from his collar, caught them with a flick, and sent them toward Nicks, who was landing behind him."
The pellets exploded mid-air with a fierce current, the glare was blindingly intense, forcing Xu Huo and Nicks to retreat simultaneously; but as they separated, both made their moves!
