Chapter 636: Chapter 636: Cannot Leave

How could the Special Defense Department Headquarters be located in a place without a water reservoir? Not only did they have one, but they also built two new ones, precisely to prepare for emergencies related to water shortages. But under the current circumstances, the water in the reservoir might not be usable.

"Where exactly is it?" Xu Huo didn’t care whether the reservoir was contaminated or not.

Nie Xuan simply told him the location of the reservoirs and added, "The one in the southwest is the largest, with a full capacity of at least 20,000 tons. However, it’s currently only half full. Do you need water? The control valves of the reservoir haven’t been damaged, and water can still be pumped in."

"No need, half is enough," Xu Huo said as he lit a cigarette, his gaze resting on the rain outside, speaking calmly, "Whether it works or not is a matter of luck."

"Then good luck to you," Nie Xuan said. "Currently, the Special Defense Department is short-staffed and can’t spare anyone to help you. In fact, we are short of people ourselves. If you can’t get it done, come over and lend a hand when you’re free."

After hanging up the phone, Xu Huo extinguished the cigarette he had just lit and put his "Oxygen Supply" back on.

"You asked about the reservoir, are you planning to put antitoxin into it?" Zheng Liang could only think of this possibility, "Would the diluted antitoxin still be effective?"

"We won’t know unless we try," Xu Huo replied. "Since you’re not doing anything, help me with something."

"There are black market channels, right?" He passed Zheng Liang a slip of paper, "Get me a set of identity documents. Everything needed is listed on there."

Zheng Liang’s expression changed as he took the slip, and then he looked at Xu Huo with complicated eyes. Seeing that Xu Huo wasn’t inclined to continue the conversation, he gritted his teeth and said, "I’ll get it done for sure!"

Xu Huo nodded, leaped down from the building, and upon landing, he charged forward like an arrow, ripping through the veil of rain and vanishing into the distance.

On the other hand, after hanging up Xu Huo’s call, Nie Xuan started a raid on one of Country Y’s player bases.

According to David Pierce’s information, they had a total of three bases. This one was the closest to the Special Defense Department Headquarters—those living there weren’t people from Country Y, but a local player who had been turned. Players from Country Y only showed up there when distributing tasks.

Nie Xuan estimated that there would definitely be activity at this base tonight. Even if they couldn’t catch any big fish, they could still net a couple of smaller ones.

Indeed, before the Special Defense Department players could even storm in, the players inside made a breakout from four different directions, each one dressed the same, even their builds were similar!

When the first group of players caught up with one of them, just as they were about to capture the escapee, the target suddenly vanished right in front of their eyes!

It wasn’t the kind of disappearance that happened when entering an instance; it was more like some unexplainable anomaly—becoming half-transparent first and only vanishing completely after a few seconds.

"Don’t bother with him," Nie Xuan leaned back in his chair, eyes fixed on the live video feed, "If the devices detect no living beings, just skip over. It doesn’t matter whether it’s people or aliens, treat them all the same and capture them. If it fails, immediately switch to the second plan."

The players’ methods were unpredictable; there was no point fussing over how exactly they escaped or attacked because anything was possible. Catching them was all that counted!

The four players who escaped didn’t lead all of the Special Defense Department players away. After three disappeared, the fourth was entangled by an electro-net and escaped into an instance.

After the first action against the operation failed, players surrounding the neighborhood outside, including those who had returned from the chase, quickly adjusted their positions and implemented a three-layered siege on the neighborhood.

The players from Country Y trapped inside had attempted several times to slip out through inconspicuous exits, but every escape route was tightly sealed by the Special Defense Department—literally tight, with electric nets and tranquilizer nets raised at every entrance: the main gates, the underground garage entrance, and the fences outside the neighborhood. Not to mention the snipers lying in ambush at a distance, along with a large number of armed police officers providing firepower support.

Breaking through the encirclement was already difficult, and with snipers waiting outside, there was nowhere to run!

"Mr. Lin, I think we should hide in an instance instead," a square-faced middle-aged man hid behind the curtains, sneaking peeks outside the window, "The Special Defense Department doesn’t force entry because they’re unclear on our situation. We might not have much time left. Fang Jing is leading their team, and out of all the group and team leaders in the Special Defense Department, he’s the most ruthless towards players. Anyone who causes trouble, if caught, is almost always killed!"

"Shut up!" The man called Mr. Lin wasn’t purely from Country X; he was mixed. Though his eye color was different, his facial features matched those of people from Country X, and with contact lenses, he looked no different from them.

At the moment, he was somewhat irritated, pinching his phone, fingers pressing continuously, but at a closer look, it was clear he wasn’t actually pressing the screen, but rather a plastic cartoon doll tucked on the side.

The signals in the area had been cut off, making information exchange impossible, so he and the other players communicated using props. But now, the prop seemed to have an issue—signals he sent out were not getting responses.

After pacing inside anxiously and becoming restless in just twenty seconds, he grabbed the square-faced man, "Break out from different locations, and don’t go into an instance if you’re caught!"

The square-faced man, looking distressed and frightened, nodded reluctantly. The next second, he was kicked out the door by Mr. Lin.

Special Defense Department players had already reached the entrance. The square-faced man was prepared, but upon exiting, he stepped on a pre-placed gadget: "I’m innocent!"

No sooner had he spoken than he involuntarily raised his palms high, his arms locked in place, unable to move!

The Special Defense Department didn’t give him a chance to flee through the window. Several tranquilizer darts shot out from different directions, and he collapsed in the corridor without even a grunt.

Seeing the legs that were obviously dragged away at the entrance, Mr. Lin cursed, "Useless," and snatched a glass cup from the table, hurling it toward the door: "Stay away from breakable items!"

The glass cup shattered on impact, and along with it, all the glass items on that floor blew apart, the glass shards flying like bullets in all directions. Mr. Lin jumped out the window, only to collide with a dazzling burst of golden light!

"Bathed in radiance!"

Along with the golden light came a player, who slammed into Mr. Lin like a cannonball, pinning him into the building’s wall!

But Mr. Lin wasn’t injured; he was surrounded by a layer of air cushion, and like a bloated loaf of bread, he stuck in the wall, bouncing the player pressuring him away.

"Bang bang bang!" A barrage of bullets splattered on the wall’s indentation, but Mr. Lin had already popped the air cushion valve, and like a balloon, he shot away chaotically!

"Friendship Link!" A player appeared on the ground of the neighborhood, threw a rope into the sky, which consciously extended upwards, and accurately connected to Mr. Lin’s shoes.
