Chapter 637: Chapter 637 Xu Huo’s Good Luck
The rope pulled Mr. Lin toward the ground, and he struggled to kick off his shoes, his body plummeting straight down, but mid-fall, he adjusted his position to land on his back, and then strong jets of air burst from his back, propelling him back into the sky!
"Bang!" A sniper bullet hit his shoulder from afar, Mr. Lin swayed in the air, and then produced another leaf-shaped object in his hand. Clutching the item, he followed the leaf’s twisting trajectory back toward the ground.
There were still members of the Special Defense Department on the ground, and before he could land, a player leapt up and swiftly flew toward him!
The path of the leaf was unpredictable, but the flying player’s trajectory also continuously changed, following the leaf wherever it went. Mr. Lin initially tried to shoot his assailant down, but before he could raise his gun, a sniper shot pierced him; then the flying player grabbed him, and together they accelerated toward the ground.
"Gel bed!" A ten-meter-square bed appeared on the ground, and the two men plunged head-first into the jelly, leaving only a pair of feet sticking out.
The player who had used the gel bed pulled his comrade out and soon after, another player threw a stone disc-shaped object, which flew straight under Mr. Lin’s feet, welding his shoes onto it as it branded the soles of his feet. A player then attached a thumb-sized metal object to his leg; with a "buzz," all the major bones in Mr. Lin’s body were simultaneously shattered!
Only then did someone loop a rope around him to pull him out, and the Special Defense Department players maintained a cautious distance of over three meters from him, with several pincers looped around his neck and limbs left lying on the ground, simply to restrict his movements.
"I never thought the Special Defense Department would be so cowardly as to be afraid of touching anything on me!" Mr. Lin taunted loudly.
Unfortunately for him, the Special Defense Department players were completely unfazed by his goading. Two more players came over with instruments, scanning him with a detector and nodding to their colleagues when they noticed several energy fluctuations.
Mr. Lin was stunned by the remotely controlled pincers.
The stunning didn’t last long; he woke up ten minutes later, only to find himself in a vehicle. Not only were his hands and feet bound with iron chains, but his clothes had also been stripped off, wires from instruments were attached to the side of his head and his chest, and there was an undeniable pain on his back.
There was a transparent glass screen in front of him, and behind the screen sat a person whose face he couldn’t see clearly due to the object.
"Cell phone, belt, buttons, cufflinks, all props, pretty wealthy." Nie Xuan, who sat behind the screen, finally spoke, "I believe with your skills you shouldn’t be afraid of entering a copy, nor short of a few tickets. Refusing to escape even when being hunted, there must be a very important reason."
Being stripped bare was the least of Mr. Lin’s worries—he felt something connected to the wound on his back.
"You’ve tampered with something inside my body?"
"A lethal miniature capsule," Nie Xuan replied. "The opening is connected to the wire on your back. Whether you try to escape by force or enter a copy, a pull on the wire, and you’ll be dead from poisoning within three seconds."
"I thought the Special Defense Department operated aboveboard, but I didn’t expect such dirty tricks!" Mr. Lin snapped angrily.
"Compared to what you guys have done, we are very minor. You don’t hesitate to drag so many ordinary people into this, do you know how many children under ten have been enveloped by the black rain so far?" Nie Xuan paused for a moment, "The capsule is just a precaution. I believe if you wanted to escape you could do it successfully, still, you choose to waste time here with me... Do you currently have the prop that controls the black rain?"
As the values on the instrument changed, Nie Xuan’s expression shifted slightly. He signaled to his subordinate to drive and continued, "You don’t carry the prop with you but have placed it somewhere else?"
"Props usually can’t be used if they’re too far from their owner. Even if you let go of it, the distance can’t be too great. Starting from the neighborhood where you were hiding, it shouldn’t take long before you walk out of the range of the black rain."
After hearing this, Mr. Lin laughed, "You figured out that the black rain is caused by a prop, and you should also know that it’s a high-level prop. The range of a high-level prop is beyond your imagination. Don’t say leaving this neighborhood, even if you take me to the next province, it’s impossible to stop the black rain!"
"I could kill you." Nie Xuan of course knew high-level props couldn’t be judged by normal standards.
"Go ahead and do it!" Mr. Lin laughed louder, "If I die, someone else will quickly take over the prop!"
Nie Xuan’s gaze darkened for a moment, but he quickly composed himself, stepped out of the vehicle, and said to the players waiting outside, "Immediately conduct a carpet search around the neighborhood with the instruments; don’t overlook a single inch of mud!"
"Chief Nie, can our instruments really detect high-level props?" a player asked.
"If high-level props contain elements found in most of the currently known props, then the instruments can detect them. Also, don’t let anyone or any animals from the neighborhood escape," Nie Xuan instructed.
The detection instruments of the Special Defense Department are, essentially, energy sensors brought back from other game zones’ advanced machinery. They react to energy released by props, displaying fluctuations in detection values. However, such devices also respond to certain special metals and radioactive materials, so it’s not guaranteed that they will work on all props, especially high-level ones.
However, there were no better options at the moment, as searches in two other locations had also come up empty.
"Chief!" The secretary hurried over, looking worried, "I just got in touch with Li Chun, and she’s unwilling to help."
Nie Xuan frowned, "Contact Xu Huo, he should have a way."
The call was placed to Xu Huo, but it wasn’t the Special Defense Department that made it, instead, it came from a secret security base.
"Mr. Xu," the elderly man’s commanding voice came through the phone, "at this critical time for our nation’s survival, I hope you can lend a helping hand. I, along with all the citizens, will remember your kindness."
Xu Huo stood under an umbrella in the vast wilderness, his gaze fixed ahead, his emotions unchanged despite the numbers that jumped and surged in his field of vision. Keeping the Silent Figurine in his pocket, he casually placed the umbrella on his shoulder and lit a cigarette for himself.
With the cigarette shielding his mouth and nose, he said, "The help Li Chun can provide is minimal, even if you write the whole of Jing City in her name, it would be difficult to catch those players. However, I do have some good news."
"There is a sizable depression under Wen Mountain southwest of the Special Defense Department Headquarters. The Special Defense Department hasn’t sent players to guard it, have they? I’ve encountered twelve players here."
"Maybe the black rain prop is here. Even if it isn’t, this should still be an important place."
"I’ll send players to meet you," the old man replied. "Wen Mountain and the area around the Special Defense Department Headquarters will also be transferred to Li Chun’s name."
Xu Huo didn’t say much and hung up the phone. After exhaling a puff of smoke, he laughed, "What good luck."
