Chapter 207: Chapter 207: Monster Park
Almost instinctively, Xu Huo turned and swung his sword, hacking at something his shifting gaze had not yet fully caught behind him, when a powerful force knocked him flying away, followed swiftly by a dark shadow!
Adjusting his position mid-air, Xu Huo’s feet hit the massive plant’s branches as he faced the incoming shadow head-on, his Crimson Sword slashing out fiercely, then quickly retracting into a narrow beam of Sword Qi—the shadow’s speed was too fast, the sword having only grazed its edge!
"Its energy level is more than ten times yours, you stand no chance against it!" Jiang Yihua shouted from not far away, viciously chopping at the Man-Eating Flower’s branches with a scythe limb previously torn from the mantis!
"Ka-chi!" The branches, hanging with human-shaped cocoons, were sliced in half, and as the leaves fell to the ground, rustling friction sounds filled the glass greenhouse, the giant Man-Eating Flower’s crown trembled, and then more than ten small Man-Eating Flower crowns burst from the center, smashing in all directions like artillery shells!
"Squeak!" The dark shadow blocking Xu Huo’s path emitted a thin squeal and fled into the depths of the flowers, but as the small flower crowns fell, a giant mantis was violently snatched and lifted into the air, devoured by the giant flower crown without a chance to struggle!
Gulping sounds came from the direction of the flower crown, and Xu Huo and the others merely glanced before fleeing without looking back!
"Bang! Bang!" More small Man-Eating Flower crowns fell nearby, not aimed at them but snatching one animal after another from the underbrush that they hadn’t noticed at all, one even clutching a human head in its mouth!
"This is a goddamn monster amusement park!" Zheng Liang couldn’t help but exclaim, but no sooner had the words left his mouth than the middle-aged woman beside him was seized by a Man-Eating Flower, and as he reflexively reached out to grab her, his face was splattered with fresh blood—the Man-Eating Flower had bitten through her throat!
The headless body was caught by a mutant creature that pounced from the jungle, but before it could start feasting, another larger Mutant Mantis swung its scythe limb, severing both in half!
"There’s a small house ahead!" Dai Wenqian suddenly pointed out.
Indeed, a small cabin stood about ten meters away, with a little lamp hanging in front, and a sign reading "Holiday Cabin" nestled beside it.
"Bang!" Zheng Liang appeared in front of the cabin, kicking the door open, followed by Xu Huo and Dai Wenqian entering back-to-back, with Jiang Yihua and Wei Bin a step behind. However, Dai Wenqian’s companion, who was at the rear, was whisked away by a strand of white silk from the jungle, and the slow-moving rich young ladies had already been obscured by the underbrush!
Ignoring the captured companion and the others left behind, Wei Bin locked the door and stepped back, peering out of the surrounding glass windows, "They’re circling around us!"
The number of mutant creatures increased as they moved away from the giant Man-Eating Flower, nearly following them foot by foot to surround the cabin; however, they halted as the group entered, seeming to fear something, and dared not come inside.
Xu Huo saw a red button next to the door labeled "High Brightness Lamp," and he slammed it down hard. Lights flared down from the dome of the glasshouse, illuminating the area around the small cabin.
The mutant creatures, fearing the light, scurried away from the cabin’s vicinity, and even the small Man-Eating Flower crowns launched by the giant one retracted under the beam of intense light!
"Help me..." At this moment, cries for help came from the underbrush, from one of the wealthy young ladies, as she supported an injured woman tryIng to make her way to the cabin.
"Shall we open the door?" Jiang Yihua asked, turning to Xu Huo, and upon his nod, pulled the door open to let the two women in.
Both women were injured, but not severely.
After quickly checking their wounds, Jiang Yihua said, "They’re fine."
Zheng Liang wasn’t concerned about the two women but rather gazed outside and asked, "How long can these lights hold up? Will those mutant creatures come back?"
Dai Wenqian had already found several pages of material on the desk inside the room, "This glass greenhouse has its own power supply, and in the event of a power outage, the energy stored in the greenhouse can last for twelve hours."
Upon hearing this, several people present sighed with relief. Wei Bin couldn’t help but feel sorrowful, "Seventeen people came, and now only seven are left."
Three more players had died.
"Dying in a game instance is too common," Dai Wenqian pointed to the path outside leading to the elevator building, "That place is not lit by the lights. If we can’t find our way back to the building quickly, we’re all going to die here."
The group followed his direction and saw that the distance from the cabin to the building wasn’t far, but with so many mutated animals lurking around, this distance was enough for them to die several times over.
"Thought we’d found a way to live, turns out it’s a dead-end," Jiang Yihua said with a pale face.
"Not necessarily so." Xu Huo, who was standing by the window, turned around with a blueprint of the cabin in his hand, "This has Professor Hao’s signature on it; this cabin should be his observation post for mutated flora and fauna. There must be a way to safely return to the building."
Otherwise, it wouldn’t be called a Holiday Cabin.
"Then let’s hurry up and look around," Wei Bin said.
The cabin was spacious with a workroom outside, a fully enclosed bedroom on the inside, and a dedicated washroom, complete with everyday items. However, most of the books and materials were gone, leaving only empty bookcases and shelves.
Jiang Yihua found a photo in a cabinet, showing a chubby middle-aged man posing with a man-eating flower about half a person tall. On the back of the photo were the words "A keepsake with Xiaohua Honghong," followed by a date.
"This Professor Hao must be colorblind," She couldn’t help saying, "The man-eating flower is clearly flesh-colored, so why name it Xiaohua Honghong?"
Wei Bin and Zheng Liang glanced at her simultaneously, with the former saying, "Instead of that, shouldn’t you find it stranger that he seems to have an affectionate attitude towards a man-eating flower?"
"It looks like the Xiaohua Honghong Building is named after this giant man-eating flower. To establish a research institute and have the money to build such a large glass greenhouse based on this man-eater, this professor is not so normal," Zheng observed.
"Wasn’t this known all along?" Jiang Yihua said, "A normal person wouldn’t have so many elevators in their workplace."
Makes sense.
Wei Bin fell silent.
"Knock knock." Xu Huo knocked on the side of the cabinet, and there seemed to be a hollow space on the wall-connected side. He used a knife to pry open the wooden panel on the side and found a red button inside, with a note attached.
"Don’t press, it’s dangerous..." Zheng Liang leaned over to read the note, looking at the others with confusion, "Hiding a button and telling people not to press it, could it be a trap?"
Suddenly, Xu Huo reached out and pressed the button.
