Chapter 208: Chapter 208 Man-Eating Flower Cultivation Diary
Zheng Liang’s face changed with shock as he blurted out, "Xu Huo, can’t you ever stop being so damn curious?!"
"Click!" A metallic sound of a latch springing open came from inside the cabin, followed by the floor underneath the desk lifting and moving the desk aside. An aluminum cabinet slowly rose from below, which was filled with at least three or four dozen colorful potions.
"They’re Evolution Potions!" Wei Bin exclaimed with joy, "There’s P1, P2, and even some Self-Healing Potions and Antitoxins!"
Jiang Yihua and Zheng Liang hurried over, with Zheng Liang saying, "We’ve struck gold this time! Who would have thought that potions were really hidden in the game!"
"Finders keepers, let’s split them equally!" Jiang Yihua said.
Dai Wenqian looked at Xu Huo, "You found them, you divide them."
There was enough of both the Evolution Potions and the Self-Healing Potions for the five players present, with each person being able to take at least seven or eight vials.
Xu Huo wasn’t interested in the Evolution Potions, but upon seeing a few plant nutrient potions at the bottom, he reached for them, "You guys aren’t interested in these, divide the rest amongst yourselves."
Jiang Yihua and the other two immediately divided the rest of the potions, and with Xu Huo taking three nutrient potions, he took three fewer of the other kinds of potions.
After placing the potions into the inventory, Zheng Liang said, "This trip didn’t turn out to be a wild goose chase after all."
"She, she looks like she’s going to die!" The rich young lady who had been resting nearby cried out as she watched the woman convulsing.
Xu Huo walked over and held down the woman’s leg, finding that where she had been bitten was now festering, and toxins had invaded her bloodstream, causing her entire leg to swell.
"Didn’t you find Antitoxins? Use one on her!" the rich young lady said, "I can buy it from you, my family is really wealthy; we can give you as much money as you want!"
"The Antitoxin for players might not work on ordinary people," Jiang Yihua said unwillingly.
Players’ bodies were enhanced and could endure the effects of potions, but the same couldn’t be said for ordinary people.
"But we have to try!" the young lady pleaded with tears in her eyes, "I’m begging you..."
Dai Wenqian turned a deaf ear and went off to look for clues, while Zheng Liang and Wei Bin hesitated, and Jiang Yihua was also reluctant to waste the potion.
Silent, Xu Huo took out an Antitoxin and injected it into the woman’s neck, then said, "Whether she lives or not is up to her luck."
The young lady thanked him profusely.
Jiang Yihua seemed somewhat ashamed and went over to help move the woman to the inner resting room to lie down, while Zheng Liang gave Xu Huo a look, "Always playing the good guy. You only got one Antitoxin, let’s see what you do when we encounter danger next!"
Xu Huo’s expression remained unchanged, "Don’t you still have an Antitoxin?"
Zheng Liang’s eyes widened as he wanted to retort, but the words died on his lips as he swallowed them back down because Xu Huo had already shifted his gaze away, showing no intention of continuing the conversation.
Zheng Liang turned angrily, accidentally bumping into Wei Bin, who wore a baffled expression.
A thorough search yielded no more valuables, but they did find several plant cultivation diaries.
Running out of patience, Zheng Liang looked at the lights outside and said, "Let’s just break out. The mutant creatures nearby have already hidden themselves; we might have a chance if we take them by surprise."
"Throw something out there and see," Dai Wenqian suggested.
Zheng Liang casually picked up a pen holder from the table and threw it out the window. Once it disappeared into the thick foliage, the branches and leaves inside began to shake violently, and there were faint sounds of a beast’s growl.
"Those mutated animals haven’t gone far," Dai Wenqian said, sitting down to rest.
"Who knows how long these lights will last," Wei Bin said worriedly. "The Xiaohua Honghong Building has been abandoned for five years, so it’s no surprise if the energy storage devices have issues."
"Can we use a potion?" Jiang Yihua came out of the resting room and asked Dai Wenqian, "Your potions seem very powerful, can they drive away those mutated animals?"
Dai Wenqian shook his head. "My potions don’t have that strong a lethal effect, and their range is limited," he replied.
Wei Bin leaned against the window and looked up at the lights on the dome of the glass greenhouse, shielding his eyes and asking, "Can these lights be moved?"
"They’re too high," Dai Wenqian said without even thinking.
The rest of the group couldn’t help but feel disheartened. Seeing that Xu Huo had been flipping through the plant cultivation diary all this time, Jiang Yihua couldn’t help but ask, "Is looking at that any use?"
Xu Huo paused and pointed to a page in the diary, "The roots of that kind of Man-Eating Flower only release poison powder when they are electrocuted, and that’s if they are still alive."
"What do you mean?" Jiang Yihua didn’t understand.
"The pollen attached to the roots of the giant Man-Eating Flower is very similar to the poison powder found on the thirteenth floor. If the flower’s roots got into the ventilation ducts, then there would be a pattern to the appearance of the poison powder on the thirteenth floor," Xu Huo explained. "The elevator went to the thirteenth floor from ten o’clock last night until four in the morning. During that time, we were all on the thirteenth floor and encountered no danger."
"But Zhang Biao and his group ran into danger," Dai Wenqian was the fastest to catch on, "and the timeframe was also from ten at night until four in the morning."
"That must be because someone went back to the thirteenth floor," Wei Bin conjectured. "Each floor has sensors. It wouldn’t be strange if someone going up triggered the traps."
But Dai Wenqian shook his head, "Xu Huo went up twice without issues, and Zhang Biao and his group were active up there for a long time."
"Twice?" Zheng Liang looked at Xu Huo.
"So the thirteenth floor is different from the other floors; it likely only releases poison powder within a specific time frame," Xu Huo said.
"You mean, even if people stay on the thirteenth floor at other times, there won’t be any issues?" Wei Bin asked in surprise, yet somewhat relieved, "Then we can gather everyone on the thirteenth floor and meanwhile find and cut the Man-Eating Flower’s roots, right?"
"It’s not that simple," Dai Wenqian said. "First, cutting the roots of the Man-Eating Flower might cause a chain reaction. The fifteenth floor hasn’t shown any signs of attacks by mutated animals, but glass was splattered into the room, indicating there must be something outside."
"The fact that mutated animals are moving inside the building but not on the exterior walls is very telling."
"Secondly, the absence of mutated animals on the thirteenth floor might also be due to the Man-Eating Flower. Whether other animals will come up after we cut the roots is an unknown."
"We can temporarily set aside the mutated animals that appear," Xu Huo said, turning his head to look at the giant Man-Eating Flower stretching into the sky, "I suspect this building is already enveloped by this Man-Eating Flower."
"That means..." Jiang Yihua realized.
"Exactly, there must be Man-Eating Flowers active on the outside of the building as well," Xu Huo continued.
Jiang Yihua and Zheng Liang exchanged glances, thinking of Brother Tie and the others left in the building, they said in unison, "I have a bad feeling."
At this moment, on the eighth floor of Xiaohua Honghong Building, three hours had passed since Xu Huo and the others disappeared from the elevator.
With their numbers drastically reduced, the remaining ninety-one people managed to reach the seventh floor safely. However, the group was split into two camps, each hostile to the other.
