Chapter 1269: Chapter 1270 Night

"Really?" The director’s squinted eyes widened as if sharing the joy, and said, "Xiao He has a bright future ahead, don’t forget to give back to the park later."

Xiao He smiled politely, "Don’t worry, I’ll come back to visit often in the future."

The director signed for them, laughed as he saw them off, and then said meaningfully, "You’ll know once you’re outside, it’s not as good out there as it is in the park."

"Do these children have to leave the park at a certain age? Are they adopted?" Xu Huo asked aloud.

"Not exactly," the director turned his head, maintaining his smiling demeanor, "These are children with high scores on genetic testing, suitable for evolution, and eight or nine out of ten will become players in the future, especially the one called Xiao He, whose genetic test results are the best among peers."

"Children as excellent as these will gradually be absorbed by others, and when they graduate from the park at sixteen, they can be received by their families early, learn player knowledge, and then soar after becoming players."

Xu Huo smiled at these words.

The director also smiled.

Yet one couldn’t say for sure if they would become players, and even if they did, it’s not equals to soaring to the sky; entering the game is only the beginning, not to mention the hardships of survival coming not just from the game.

From what Xu Huo currently understands, there are roughly three outcomes for Flower City’s orphans: one is like those children earlier, identified as reserve players through genetic testing and divided by different forces in Flower City during their growth.

The second kind is as Chen Chou said, treated as slaves or pets, mostly those with beautiful or cute appearances.

Excluding the first two, the leftovers are the third kind; they leave the welfare park and become ordinary members of Flower City, some may find jobs, but more may have to rely on welfare for survival, contributing to the city’s population.

None of these fates can be considered good, since Flower City itself is a twisted city; its seemingly immaculate surface is actually suppressing ordinary people’s desires and human nature extremely. Problems are bound to emerge or might have already appeared, just not publicly visible under the strong control of the government.

Just like the director said, Flower City is no better than the apparently unfree park.

The game world, everywhere alike.

"Sir, are you the gentleman who came to donate earlier?" A girl caught up, out of breath, with a cheerful face and a bright smile, she handed him a bouquet, "Thank you for caring about us. We don’t have much to thank you, this is a flower planted by the children in our park, the director specially asked me to give it to you."

"Thank you." Xu Huo took it.

The girl didn’t hurry to leave, hesitating before asking, "Are you an outsider player? Can I ask you a few questions?"

Xu Huo motioned for her to ask.

"Our teacher often says that many children die in chaos outside the zones, and those who survive can’t get enough to eat, is it true?"

"Seeing it with your own eyes is better than hearing it from others," Xu Huo said.

"I don’t have the talent to become a player." The girl said with slight disappointment, but quickly smiled again, "But the director has agreed to let me stay in the park, and I’ll become a teacher in the future."

"For you to come to Flower City, you must be a very powerful player, right? What level player does one have to be to move freely between different zones like you?"

"That’s a good question," Xu Huo pondered for a moment and said, "Be cautious, maybe a Rank-C player is enough."

The girl was momentarily surprised, "You say differently from others. My teacher and the guests who’ve visited all say only Rank-A players or Super Players can."

Xu Huo laughed, "You don’t believe it either, otherwise you wouldn’t seek further confirmation."

The girl earnestly nodded, "I’ll remember your words, and will tell my students all about them in the future."

"Do you have any wishes for them?" Xu Huo asked.

The girl hesitated before saying, "You might laugh at me if I say it, I want to tell my students that when they’re able to move freely in the game, they should save as many children as they can, bring them to Flower City, and let them grow up carefree."

Xu Huo nodded solemnly, "That’s a great wish."

The girl couldn’t help but smile, waving at him, "I’ll be heading back now, goodbye sir."

When leaving the welfare park, Xu Huo felt a bit better. Back at the hotel, he asked the staff for a vase to arrange the bouquet he brought back.

These are some non-threatening cultivated hybrids, colorful, beautiful in shape, and small, perfect for arranging in a vase for viewing.

Xu Huo placed the vase by the window, lying down nearby to rest.

Time quickly moved to nighttime, the city center lit up with colorful beams, not only illuminating the entire city but also adding a distinctive beauty—like a giant flower blooming above the city.

Who knows whose interest or hobby this initially was, but it’s rare to see it fully realized.

The city center was busier at night, with many out-of-town visitors coming just for fun, like Xu Huo, occupying much of the area while Flower City residents mostly stayed in virtual rooms, keeping away from outsiders.

"Do you think virtual rooms are like birdcages?" A player and local started a conflict, loudly ridiculing the light shadow barriers made by simple partitioning instruments.

These words annoyed many; the Flower City dwellers capable of spending at night generally had some money or background, most also had players accompanying them. As soon as the words were spoken, someone made a move, but just as the outsider player and his companions were about to use props, several medium-sized aircraft surrounded them, threatening them to not use force or be forcibly expelled.

The Flower City people who also made a move were protected by the aircraft.

It would be a loss to act now, and under the eyes of Flower City treating them like monkeys, those few players left in anger.

"Don’t let a few world-unsavvy people ruin our mood, Kairo is coming tonight, I wonder if he will go to the top floor. Just let me see him, I just want to see him once!" A Flower City woman held her face with a longing look toward the club, "I’ll surely have a sweet dream when I go back!"

Many females shared the same thought, and quite a few men were coming for Kairo Field as well.

The streets became lively, everyone immersed in fun. Soon several men and women appeared on the club’s top floor, looking down from across the railing.

Someone in the crowd screamed; those people were famous figures in Flower City, all young and very popular. One long-haired young man blew a kiss to the crowd below before turning back and saying, "Kairo, not coming to take a look?"
