Chapter 1221: Chapter 1221: District 001 News

Mu Yan seemed uninterested in the topic and replied indifferently, "I live in a remote area, so I’m not very familiar with these situations."

The man with glasses smiled faintly and didn’t pursue the topic further. Instead, he brought up the latest happenings in District 001, like the personnel changes at the Game Government Base.

"Speaking of which, you can’t not mention the Feld Family. I heard that Kairo Field, who just married his eighth wife, brought back another stunner from elsewhere. His backyard caught fire, and now his wives are in-fighting, turning every day into catfight news central." Big Belly chimed in, "I wonder what kind of beauty managed to make someone like Kairo Field, who’s seen it all, bend the knee. Didn’t the news say two months ago that the local government in District 001 even organized a beauty pageant to please him, rounding up all the available beauties in the district? And yet, they still couldn’t deliver a ninth wife."

"You don’t get it. Those are political marriages. Without the right status or background, forget it. Look at the women Kairo Field married—it’s clear only families with real clout in front of the Game Government even qualify. Most families in District 001 are nobodies in their eyes. The Feld Family has such a reputation, and their heir is merely here in District 001 to pad his resume. Why would he ever marry a woman from here?" the man with glasses remarked. "Still, I am curious about what that woman he brought back looks like."

"District 001 is full of beauties—it’s probably just for the novelty," Mutton Chop Beards said. "Some people from certain zones look downright weird... To me, it’s unsettling, but hey, some folks are into that."

"True enough. I heard District 001 even managed to produce a real mermaid—not some sharp-fanged freak, but an actual creature like the ones from legend," Big Belly added. "The starting price at auction was five hundred million White Notes, eventually sold for a billion. Even the mermaid’s hair that later leaked out from the auction fetched sky-high prices."

"Getting the hair essentially means getting the mermaid’s genes," the man with glasses smirked. "Bet some people are thinking about mass production."

"Has anything major happened in District 001 recently?" Xu Huo interjected. "The personnel changes at the Game Government Base can’t just be about petty jealousy, can they?"

The man with glasses turned to look at him. "You’ve heard whispers too? There are rumors that a batch of experimental data from the collaboration between the Game Government Base and Hengxing Company was stolen. No one’s clear on what kind of experiment it was, but for someone to steal data from such a highly secured base, the first suspects would be insiders. Those without connections got booted out, while those with ties used it as a chance to slip their people in."

"Kairo Field’s wives fighting over power makes sense, but starting a brawl over some woman their husband brought back? That’s a bit degrading."

"Well, no matter where you are, it’s all the same," Big Belly remarked. "Don’t be fooled by how grand the Game Government looks; as long as humans are involved, there’s always scheming. If you want to exploit a loophole, there’s always an opportunity."

The group looked at each other and chuckled in unison.

The man with glasses served a bowl of soup to Mu Yan and added, "Speaking of District 001, it’s really got excess wealth. I heard someone actually made a fortune by trading the trash dumped in Hengxing Company’s underground disposal sites."

"Really?" Mutton Chop Beards laughed heartily. "I should try that one day."

"Just don’t mix up the locations," Big Belly warned. "Hengxing Group has operations in all sorts of industries in District 001. The profitable ones are typically in machinery, potions, and tech development. But stay away from their labs; the waste from those places is often toxic—you might end up poisoned and needing antitoxin."

"The Game Government and Hengxing Company are in bed together, doing who-knows-what shady stuff in the background. Who’s to say the stolen data wasn’t from some of their messed-up experiments?" Mutton Chop Beards muttered. "God knows how many people they’ve experimented on. If you ask me, they had it coming!"

Big Belly glanced at the silent Mu Yan and jokingly said to the others, "This little lady doesn’t like hearing this stuff. Let’s talk about something else."

Mu Yan allowed a slight smile. "I’m actually not a native of District 001. My previous zone became unlivable, so I ended up here. I don’t feel much attachment to District 001 and spend most of my time away from Flower City."

"Whether it’s the Game Government Base or Hengxing Group, they’re both far removed from me."

"The only news I want to hear about them is this: Hengxing Group going bankrupt and the Game Government Base shutting down."

The group fell silent for a moment, until Mutton Chop Beards gave a thumbs-up. "Girl’s got ambition! Once I’m out of the instance, I swear I’ll pull one big stunt in District 001 before I leave! Any of you guys wanna team up?"

"Robbing the base or hitting Hengxing Group?" Big Belly joked. "Us few Rank-C Players probably wouldn’t even scratch the surface."

"Life’s all about the thrill. Frankly, I can’t stand Hengxing Group or the base; as long as we cause trouble for them, who cares about the method?"

He paused before adding, "I recently got my hands on a super-powerful prop. It’d be enough to blow up a whole base."

"Instead of blowing up a base, why not poison the water storages?" the man with glasses suggested darkly. "The central government of E27 is located in District 001. The base must be packed with experienced players. Even if you kill a few, it probably won’t matter much to the Game Government."

"But the water storages are different. If done right, the casualties would rack up quickly. It could even trigger a major plague. Then neither the local government in District 001, the base, nor Hengxing Group would escape the fallout."

"But wouldn’t the first victims be ordinary people if you poisoned the water storages?" Mu Yan asked.

The man with glasses gave her a sidelong glance but didn’t respond. Big Belly and Mutton Chop Beards conveniently acted as though they hadn’t heard her.

Mu Yan frowned, her lips pressing tighter together.

"Poisoning sounds viable but wouldn’t have a large impact," Xu Huo said. "A somewhat advanced district’s water storages all have monitoring systems. It wouldn’t even take a second to detect any contamination."

"The monitoring devices are strategically distributed, segmenting everything strictly—even the pipelines have numbered designations. If something goes wrong in one location, the nearby pipelines would immediately shut off. Large-scale contamination would be impossible."

"Instead of using that method, it’d be smarter to spend some money on a hot air balloon," he said with a faint smile. "The airspace in District 001 is full of giant aircraft—company-owned, government-arranged, all kinds. Adding one or two more wouldn’t raise eyebrows. Then you could spend a bit more on flowers and colorful powder, and just scatter it over a random city. The result would be... interesting."

"If you want to save costs, you could hijack an aircraft and toss in some poison."

"If you can’t even manage to hijack an aircraft or take to the sky, then everything else is moot," he concluded.

At that, Xu Huo paused, took a sip of soup, and leisurely asked, "So, which city are you planning to hit?"
