Chapter 1208: Chapter 1208: The End of the Maze is Due East of the Passage Ahead of You

The mutant plants within the labyrinth have no clear growth directionality, and under the labyrinth’s control, they can even randomly change growth directions or simply point in opposite ones, rendering them completely unreliable as a judgment standard.

"So what’s the point of this clue?" He Xiaoxiao was rather speechless. "What a surprise, huh."

"At least there’s a relatively accurate standard." Xu Huo recorded the direction of the passage with his device, preparing to move forward again.

After just a few more passageways, they were ambushed by another wave of pursuit and interception. To Xu Huo’s surprise, He Xiaoxiao not only stayed back but was unusually excited. "Hahaha! I’ve never seen so many types of plants before. So there are so many hidden varieties inside the labyrinth’s walls! If we take them out for an exhibition, we could make a fortune!"

"You wouldn’t be able to keep them alive in this situation. Do you know where their seeds grow?" Xu Huo slashed at an enormous Man-Eating Flower lunging at him, then kicked the fallen flower head forward casually. "Do you see any inside?"

He Xiaoxiao dodged an attacking plant nearby. "Why don’t you set it on fire first? Maybe what’s left will be their seeds. I’ve heard that mutant plant seeds usually have extremely tough outer shells, resistant to both fire and water. No matter when you scatter a seed, by next year, a whole patch will sprout!"

"Click! Click! Click!"

The sound of the lighter being flicked open echoed multiple times, but before the flames could ignite, the two had already moved far from the passageway.

Still, over time, anybody would start to feel fatigued.

Taking advantage of a brief respite, He Xiaoxiao asked Xu Huo, "How long does your card last?"

"Twelve hours."

He Xiaoxiao hesitated for a moment, clearly aware that the playing card couldn’t be discarded or transferred. The only way for it to lose effect immediately is if the cardholder dies within the labyrinth’s walls or gets killed by another player.

Yet, clearly, neither of those paths was feasible at the moment.

She sighed, "Looks like both our luck isn’t great..."

Just as she finished speaking, the rubber Prop Cat she had sent out earlier returned, rubbing against her legs three times.

"Our luck’s turned around; at least three players are close to us!"

"Quick, chase them!"

Xu Huo had no objections. If they’d found both clues and other players along the labyrinth’s walls, it proved that changing direction wasn’t necessarily the wrong move. Continuing forward was the best option.

Within five minutes, they encountered the players detected by the Prop, but by then, only one remained. As Xu Huo and He Xiaoxiao arrived, the sole surviving player was tearing into the neck of another player, draining blood, while a third player lay dead against the labyrinth wall. His upper body pressed tightly to the wall, while his lower body rested on the ground—his body had been snapped in half from behind.

"We’ve got newcomers." The sole standing player, spotting Xu Huo and He Xiaoxiao, dropped the corpse in his hands, turned to face them, and wiped the blood from his mouth. His gaze shifted from Xu Huo to He Xiaoxiao, and he chuckled grimly. "A delicate little girl."

He Xiaoxiao’s hands instantly produced a pink rubber hammer. She pointed it at the Cannibal Player and declared, "I hate Cannibal Players the most!"

Before her words even finished, she launched the attack first. Her petite body shot forward like an arrow, tearing through the air as she reached the Cannibal Player directly. The rubber hammer in her hand emitted a sharp whistling sound as it aimed straight for his face!

"Smash!!" The loud sound of impact echoed, but shockingly, the Cannibal Player caught her Prop bare-handed!

"The blood of young girls is always so sweet!" The Cannibal Player grinned as the bulging muscles in his arm twisted lightly, effortlessly wrenching the pink hammer out of He Xiaoxiao’s hand. He followed up by deploying a Prop to impose limitations on the pair before surging forward along her retreat path. His fist smashed apart the Defensive Prop that He Xiaoxiao had just raised!

He Xiaoxiao was somewhat stunned, but she still had Passive Defense Props on her. Even if the first layer of defense was breached, she remained safe.

"Boom!" With another deafening sound, the Cannibal Player, with his steel-like body, slammed directly against He Xiaoxiao’s Defensive Barrier. Though he couldn’t break it completely, he shook her back more than ten meters!

Behind her lay the labyrinth wall. As He Xiaoxiao crashed into it, she startled the mutant plants embedded above, which swiftly wrapped her body in their vines.

Escaping from the labyrinth wall wasn’t difficult. He Xiaoxiao used a Substitute Prop and a nearby Teleportation Prop, then fled forward without even glancing back. But the Cannibal Player seemed to lock onto her, expertly duplicating her path as he pursued with only a momentary delay!

He Xiaoxiao paused briefly at a turn but was overtaken by him immediately.

"Gut her open!" The Cannibal Player raised a long watermelon knife and slashed down at her.

That strike shattered He Xiaoxiao’s Passive Defense Barrier and broke the crystal she wore on her wrist!

Only now did He Xiaoxiao’s expression shift slightly. Facing the second strike about to descend, she quickly deployed three Defensive Props. Yet this time, the blade didn’t fall—it was halted by Xu Huo.

More precisely, Xu Huo stood in front of her, layers of crisscrossed Prop lines cutting through the space ahead of him. The watermelon knife, which moments earlier had brutally destroyed a Defensive Prop, split into two pieces as it crossed the lines!

"What the...!" The Cannibal Player’s face showed disbelief. It acted quickly, switching Props while yelling "Gut her open!" as he attempted another strike at Xu Huo.

But, once again, the new Prop was severed by the lines.

"Gut her open—interesting. That doesn’t seem to be your characteristic, does it?" Xu Huo chuckled, then pointed behind the Cannibal Player before taking another move. "Careful now; this place is full of lines."

In combat, enemies’ remarks might be distractions or outright trickery. But there was hardly a need for him to turn around—within his peripheral vision, it was clear that both passageways flanking the pair were filled with razor-sharp Secant Lines!

"Do you have a long-distance Teleportation Prop?" Xu Huo continued, "I wonder if teleporting away would mean your Props—and yourself—get shredded to pieces along the way."

The Cannibal Player showed no fear at his words. Instead, a feral grin spread across his face as he released nearly twenty Mechanical Hummingbirds. These could easily thread the spaces between the lines, closing the distance to the duo infinitely. Even if two or three crashed against the lines, the rest were enough to surround Xu Huo from head to toe!

Then, the hummingbirds began to detonate—they’d been tinkered with for maximum threat. Upon disintegration, every component transformed into a deadly weapon. Not only did their wide attack range make it ideal for exhausting Defensive Props, but the mechanic allowed timed explosions to potentially exploit gaps in Prop switching or weak defenses.

Of course, that was only a possibility.

The Mechanical Hummingbirds did no damage whatsoever to Xu Huo’s Defensive Barrier. Meanwhile, with a simple motion of his finger, he severed both of the Cannibal Player’s legs.
