Chapter 1177: Chapter 1177: Dangerous Signal
It’s not difficult to locate the center of the Ruins Space based on the textual instructions, as long as you avoid the intersections of spaces and refrain from jumping from one space to another.
"These spaces all look similar. Since they’re replicas, there’s a good chance they’re products of a frozen moment in time," said the Magician.
"Can a momentary freeze in time really create an entirely new space?" Xu Huo questioned skeptically.
"It might not necessarily be a real space." The Magician kicked a stone in front of him, and the flying Shitou happened to strike a floating stone slab. In an instant, the entire passage collapsed, pulling down hovering buildings in the sky as well. Amidst rolling dust clouds, he continued, "It’s similar to the spaces within the Spiritual World—they can mimic reality but are ultimately not real."
The Magician was capable of compressing the range of his Spiritual World to infuse Materialized Items with destructive power. Like Bai Kou, he could also create standalone stage spaces within his Spiritual World, abilities superior to those of Xu Huo.
However, he was a bit curious about the state of Xu Huo’s Spiritual World. "You’ve reached the level where you can directly attack others with Psychic Power—why can’t you create spaces? The advanced version of Spirit Evolution is learning to hide your Spiritual World; creating a space to replace it is the most convenient method."
"Could it be that you’re exceptionally gifted and all your personalities have completed Super Evolution?"
"Not at all," Xu Huo replied. "It’s not multiple personality disorder. I have a memory problem—there’s a part of my mind I fear may cause issues post-evolution, so I crafted an independent personality. That personality occasionally acts out of line."
"What a pity," said the Magician with a touch of regret. "The personality you separated out can Materialize attacks, proving that your Spirit Evolution has already reached the same level of intensity. But you’ve separated it, which, in terms of outcome, has actually set you back."
Xu Huo didn’t see it that way. "I separated it when I first began my evolution."
Moreover, that personality symbolizes childhood memories. No matter how strong his Psychic Power is, it’s impossible for him to have constructed a Spiritual World during childhood. The Shadow Personality still remains active within his "library tower."
The Magician found this perplexing, but his experience in this area was broader. He speculated, "Perhaps the personality you separated has evolved on its own. While this possibility is exceedingly rare, the human Spiritual World is inherently complex. The fact that you can isolate a segment of your memory into an independent personality suggests your evolution differs from others’."
"Among the Super Evolvers I’ve encountered so far, none have multiple personalities. If such a case exists, it’s typically just a single Master Personality evolving. Moreover, one must guard against attacks from other personalities. The risk of driving oneself insane is extremely high."
"Was it the separated personality that emerged on its own earlier? That’s a dangerous sign."
Previously at Snow White Villa, Xu Huo had already realized the "library tower" might be unable to contain the Shadow Personality. On that occasion, he asked the Magician, "Is there a solution?"
"For your specific situation, no," the Magician answered candidly. "But if it were a Player suffering from split personality disorder, the best solution would be to avoid using Psychic Power. You could give that method a shot."
"Don’t be overly pessimistic, though. Once you become a Rank-B or Rank-A Player and encounter more skilled Super Evolvers, someone might know the answer."
More skilled Super Evolvers... Xu Huo thought of one individual, and his expression darkened.
"Super Evolution isn’t as perfect as people claim. Many suffer lasting side effects," the Magician remarked pointedly while brushing his moth-shaped badge.
Soon, the two of them arrived at the center of the Ruins Space, where the Spatial Rays were most concentrated. It could tentatively be considered the center.
More than a dozen rays pierced through a large, intact rectangular stone and tilted outward in all directions. It resembled an upside-down cone, with the cone’s tip marking the convergence point of the rays—the precise spot buried beneath the Shitou.
"Let me just say upfront, flipping over the Shitou might yield a Prop. Alternatively, it could be something else imbued with temporal properties. The worst-case scenario is that it’s a fragment of Time Force preserved here. If we disrupt it, the entire space could collapse, and instead of gaining an opportunity for evolution, we might die under the Time Rays," the Magician said first.
Xu Huo was well aware of this risk. Nie Xuan’s situation fell into the third category—he had only been accidentally injured by Lawrence Lee, yet his Super Evolution came at the cost of drastically reduced lifespan, with no way to predict when death would arrive.
"But if it’s a Prop—even if it’s damaged—it’s still an opportunity," Xu Huo said in a somber tone.
"Exactly," the Magician agreed. "Are you going first, or should I?"
Xu Huo stepped back and made a gesture of invitation.
The Magician, understanding the cue, said, "If I succeed, I’ll try to compensate for your losses."
Xu Huo shook his head with a smile. "No need; it’s all about individual skill."
The Magician chuckled. "I’m starting to admire you. No matter how this turns out, let’s consider ourselves halfway to being friends."
Xu Huo retreated farther, gripping "Three Seconds of a Lifetime" in his hand.
Over on the Magician’s side, he set up basic defenses. For additional safety, he directly pulled out a Ticket.
The Ticket wasn’t guaranteed to be useful now, but it might come in handy if the space collapsed.
Keeping over fifty meters of distance from the stone slab in the center, the Magician used a Spatial Ray to flip the Shitou. But the moment the slab shifted, sudden chaos erupted—the Time Rays piercing through it spiraled into violent disarray. As the slab moved, everything linked to the Time Rays within the space began to crumble into oblivion.
First to disintegrate were the floating buildings in the air, followed by the disappearance of numerous overlapping spaces. The former obliterated the Ruins Space where Xu Huo and the Magician stood. The latter devoured unsuspecting Players who had ventured in—time frozen in those spaces had collapsed, and anyone inside vanished without a trace!
To those still within the Ruins Space, however, this chain of destruction was imperceptible. All they could see were buildings tumbling from above, and the sky and ground beginning to fracture. Worse yet, a small island reappeared in the chaos—plummeting straight down from the seemingly infinite heights of the sky. Mid-descent, it was struck by Time Rays, causing its trees and soil to weather rapidly. The originally intact island splintered in a cascade, rocks pouring down like heavy rain!
"Looks like luck isn’t on our side," the Magician remarked, dodging a Time Ray while calling out to Xu Huo from afar, "Farewell."
He departed decisively. Xu Huo responded with an indifferent smirk, expanding the coverage of his Cubic Space as far as possible.
