Chapter 1178: Suspected Primeval Stone
Chapter 1178: Chapter 1178: Suspected Primeval Stone
His spatial coverage wasn’t enough to observe the trajectory of the time rays from a distance. By the time he detected their path, they were often dangerously close. And the speed at which the time rays moved defied description—it was not just "fast." Their force was akin to a hand wielding a brush, instantly sweeping across everything in their range.
Many players had died under the time rays.
Although the rays couldn’t truly kill, anyone struck by one would freeze in place, locked in the same posture as when they were hit. Whether others tried to pull them or debris fell upon them, the person would suddenly crumble like a withered ancient tree, shattering at a mere touch.
For those frozen, and even for the onlookers, such a sight was utterly incomprehensible. Some players, fortunately equipped with space-time items, were unaffected by the rays, though they had no idea why. As they watched companions and nearby individuals disintegrate one after another, panic drove them to desperately search for an exit.
But running fast did not guarantee escape. Long-range movement items could boost their speed, but as long as they remained in the area, where they landed became a matter of luck—would they end up in the path of a time ray?
"It’s even more dangerous ahead! Don’t run too fast, everyone!" someone shouted after seeing those at the front shatter into pieces. However, a moment later, they too froze and were struck by falling debris, exploding into fragments. This only reinforced the point: danger was not about running speed.
Some observant players noticed that a few individuals’ companions kept disappearing while they themselves were unharmed. Attempting to follow closely behind these seemingly lucky ones, even mimicking their footsteps, still proved futile. They were not spared either.
Only two individuals carrying injured companions managed to remain untouched throughout.
Despite space-time items offering significant protection against the rays, Xu Huo had no interest in directly testing their limits. In "Cubic Space," which extended nearly a kilometer, he moved swiftly, picking up a few wounded individuals along the way and advising others with items on how to cope.
But this help did little, as players now had to contend not just with the time rays but also with falling debris from the sky, including parts of a collapsing island. Some unlucky players were crushed to death.
Of course, the sharper ones tried using their tickets to escape, but no one succeeded.
"Brother Xu! Brother Xu!" Wang Dafa’s group spotted Xu Huo from a distance and waved desperately. "Give us a lift!"
Wei Mang’s group seemed unharmed, but what surprised Xu Huo was that Song Xiaohua was with them.
After the earlier fight with the Magician, Song Xiaohua had disappeared. Xu Huo had assumed that...
After a brief pause, Xu Huo used a spatial barrier to pull the group toward him.
But unexpectedly, just as the group drew near, a wounded female player Xu Huo had saved earlier suddenly turned on them. Utilizing an item, she shattered the spatial barrier and dragged Sun Minqi along as she launched herself into the air:
"If I’m going to die, I’m taking you with me!"
Sun Minqi wasn’t weak. Realizing what was happening, he immediately used an item to immobilize the female player and mercilessly stabbed her in the chest.
The faces of Guo Nan and Yi Huijun darkened. Guo Nan remarked coldly, "The Special Defense Department will deal with him sooner or later!"
Ban Tao and the others also showed disdain, but given the dire situation, no one voiced any objections.
Familiar with the terrain, Xu Huo quickly located an exit. But just as he reached it, he noticed that part of the disintegrating island hadn’t fallen completely. Pausing to think, he ascended toward it using "Gentleman’s Stance." Near the remaining portion of the island, "Cubic Space" revealed a concentrated cluster of time rays faintly glowing, though partially concealed by the surrounding rock.
Using the "Crimson Sword," he slashed away at the rock layer, finally uncovering a red stone the size of a human head. Embedded within its translucent structure was a white stone about the size of half a fist, from which the dense rays seemed to emanate.
Xu Huo now understood why the island had been pulled into the Ruins Space—it was because of this stone!
Space-time items were drawn to the raw materials from which they were crafted. This mysterious attraction lacked definitive explanation, but the white stone before him was highly likely to be a Primeval Stone—perhaps even the supreme kind known as the "Time Origin," the only type capable of imbuing Secondary Stones with special properties!
Behind him, someone activated an item.
But before they could act, Xu Huo sealed off the entire surrounding area with a spatial barrier. Calmly collecting the stone, he placed it into his storage compartment and turned to face five would-be attackers.
"Two from the Special Defense Department, and three from the Player Organization. How nice."
One of them was Sun Minqi. When his item to steal the stone failed, he sneered, "Finders, keepers? Hogging it to yourself won’t end well!"
His tone carried an obvious threat.
Xu Huo ignored him and turned to the two Special Defense Department members, his expression cold and murderous. "Think carefully—you’re representing the Special Defense Department now. Do you really want to act?"
Realizing they’d acted impulsively, and knowing that Xu Huo now held the stone, the two calculated their odds. Killing Xu Huo seemed even less likely than taking the stone from him. And once he left with a ticket, the Department’s authority would mean nothing.
Reluctantly, the two avoided Xu Huo’s gaze and retreated.
Sun Minqi and the remaining two players rolled their eyes in contempt. One of them even tried signaling to others who looked eager to join the fray. Unfortunately, in the very next second, all three were sliced apart midair—blood, organs, and gore raining onto the ground below.
The nearby members of the Player Organization, who had been watching the scene, were not spared either. Xu Huo dispatched eight more in rapid succession. His movements were so swift that death was the only outcome for anyone in his path!
Those remaining were terrified. Without hesitation, they rushed to the exit, tripping over each other in their haste.
Xu Huo didn’t pursue them. Glancing at the collapsing space one last time, he finally stepped through the exit.
By now, the barriers of the Ruins Space were already failing. Some outside areas revealed the submerged fragments of the island sinking into the sea. However, as soon as Xu Huo exited, the entire Ruins Space collapsed completely, leaving behind a roiling ocean.
The players who had made it out scrambled onto the Special Defense Department’s ship, Xu Huo included. But when he stepped aboard, everyone on the deck instinctively stepped away.
Glancing briefly at the corpses floating in the water, Xu Huo turned and waved at Minister Fan, who stood on a nearby vessel.
The Special Defense Department had already reported the Ruins Space events to Minister Fan. Learning that Xu Huo had once again obtained the critical object left Minister Fan both frustrated and helpless. The only consolation was that it seemed to be a special mineral rather than a fully-formed instance.
As Xu Huo finished waving, in the next instant, he appeared directly beside Minister Fan. Grinning, he remarked, "The return journey might be dangerous. Minister Fan, you wouldn’t mind giving me a ride, would you?"
