"Wasn’t it just one leg before?" Xu Huo frowned.

"It’s probably the infection." Nie Xuan said nonchalantly, "Gradually, it turned into this state."

"Your way of Evolution must be different from mine."

Nie Xuan’s Evolution stemmed from the time he accidentally got hit while witnessing Lawrence Lee in combat, which gave part of his body Spatial Power. The upside was that Spatial Artifacts had difficulty affecting him; the downside, however, was that he couldn’t control it, and his other leg started to assimilate as well.

"Maybe soon my whole body will become spatialized. At that point, whether I’ll still be alive or if I am, whether I’ll be human or something else, is unclear." Nie Xuan sneered, seemingly mocking someone.

Special Spatial Power doesn’t have much effect on relatively stable objects, like air. Under normal circumstances, gases and the objects they come in contact with don’t interfere with each other and maintain a balance. But if one were to suddenly alter the state of one of the elements, unforeseeable consequences could ensue.

"I once encountered Lawrence Lee on a train." Xu Huo said, "His legs were disabled. He once captured an Alien on the train, seemingly engrossed in living experiments. Since your issue was caused by him, why don’t you try seeking him out?"

"We’ll talk about that later." Nie Xuan extinguished his cigarette butt and continued, "It’s perfect timing that you’re back, the New Year is coming. Do you plan to go home?"

Xu Huo nodded, "Are they now in the Safe Zone of Jing City?"

"Strictly confidential Safe Zone, not disclosed to the public." Nie Xuan said, "Going back will be just in time for you to take care of the Safe Zone. However, the boyfriend of your mother, Lady Fang, is a little problematic."

Xu Huo didn’t mind, "Please feel free to capture him if you guys can."

Nie Xuan laughed, "It seems you’ve long been aware of his background. A pity that Zone 014 doesn’t have strong enough Players. Those who infiltrate stand among the crowd, and we are hesitant to make a move against them."

"There’s still lots of time, no need to rush." Xu Huo hinted meaningfully.

Nie Xuan didn’t argue, saying curtly: "You’ve recovered well. That bunch of people outside were brought here by you. When you leave, take them along."

"Besides, about the Black Rain incident and the attack on the Safe Zone of Country Y, the Special Defense Department can’t disclose your identity for reasons you understand. If you feel shortchanged, you can ask the Special Defense Department for stuff. Now is when they’re short-handed, anything you ask for, they have to deliver."

After three months, he hadn’t expected such a change in his attitude towards the Special Defense Department.

"In any case, the good loot they take in is also internally digested. Instead of letting some unaccomplished people misuse it, better to put it to some use."

After Nie Xuan finished, he left.

Only then did Xu Huo stand up from his seat and move his body, using Advanced Cleansing Potion to deal with clumps of mycelium on the ground. When the mycelium dissolved, he changed out of his dirty clothes, cleaned the grime off his face, conjured a few doors to leave the detention room, and arrived at a meeting room near the entrance to the Safe Zone.

Once seated at the head of the conference table, he lifted his right hand to leave the Safe Zone. He hadn’t walked far when several Directors from the Special Defense Department, along with the Players standing by them, appeared in the conference room.

These people were either sitting in cars or had temporarily found a room to settle in. Just a second ago, they were discussing whether to attempt sneaking into the Safe Zone. Never did they expect that in a blur, they would suddenly find themselves in a different place. In shock and disbelief, upon seeing the other division members also present in the conference room, glaring angrily, Xu Huo spoke:

"Gentlemen, please take a seat and let’s talk."

The Players were on edge; hearing someone talking, one of them blurted out, "Who are you? It’s not your place to speak here!"

"Xu Huo? You’re Xu Huo!" Director Zhang recognized the person.

At the mention of that name, everyone in the room instinctively turned to look.

Among the civilian Players, the name "Xu Huo" was fairly well-known. Known for daring to challenge the Special Defense Department early in the game, most Players had heard of him. The Black Rain incident wasn’t publicized, but the fungi he brought back became an important raw material for the Special Defense Department to manufacture Antitoxin. The successful rescue of the many poisoned individuals during the Black Rain incident, Xu Huo’s role was spread internally within the department, only his involvement in the attack on the Safe Zone of Country Y was unknown.

"Is that Player who came to the Safe Zone you?" Director Zhang had realized they were played by this point.

Xu Huo might be regarded highly by people like Chief Wu, but he wasn’t worth their making a concerted effort to come here.

"All for naught!" Another Director complained, outright ignoring Xu Huo, not even sparing him a glance, treating him like air, and said to the other Directors, "Then I will be taking my leave."

The atmosphere in the meeting room seemed to suddenly cool down.

"Director..." The Player standing behind him whispered a warning, but this Director, used to getting his way, raised his hand to stop the man from speaking, and nodded at another Player, "Bian Changxing."

Unfortunately, Lu City’s elite Player Bian Changxing, standing to one side, was sweating profusely as he stared at Xu Huo seated at the head of the table, not daring to move an inch – let alone leave!

The other Players in the room, who also felt a threatening presence of death, numbered twenty-one in total. Not a single one dared to shift their gaze—the man seated at the head had a casual posture, not even lifting his eyelids. Yet the hand placed on the table seemed to hold an invisible sword aimed straight at each one of their throats!

Were it not for special training, some would likely flee into the game world right on the spot.

In response to the Players’ reactions, the Directors were not fools either. Adding up the circumstances of their arrival in the meeting room, they all turned graver.

"Xu Huo, do you intend to oppose the entire Special Defense Department?" The Director from Lu City said with a fierce exterior but with inward trepidation.

"Why would I?" Xu Huo raised his hand and pointed to several pieces of paper and pens that now lay on the table, "I knew that someone within Ting City must have leaked information to you. Otherwise, based on a few anonymous messages from Pioneer Players alone, you wouldn’t have made the trip here."

"Leave your names, and you may go."

"What do you mean...!" Before the Director from Lu City could finish, a Player who had been standing at the end of the conference table suddenly clasped his throat and collapsed to the ground. As blood gushed from his throat, he convulsed twice and stopped breathing.

"You dare kill a member of the Special Defense Department right to their face!" Director Zhang looked sharply at Xu Huo, but meeting Xu Huo’s gaze, his instincts uncontrollably made him take two steps back. Embarrassed, but trying to maintain his dignity, he asserted, "This is the Special Defense Department!"

Xu Huo leaned forward slightly, his face carrying a smile, "Just by your intentions, if it wasn’t for giving the Special Defense Department some face, none of you would leave here alive today."
