Chapter 1135: Either Don’t Fight, or Fight to Win

Chapter 1135: Chapter 1135: Either Don’t Fight, or Fight to Win

This matter itself should not be too dangerous, but it has attracted too much attention and could cause unnecessary internal consumption.

Another unstable factor is Xu Huo’s condition, which we don’t know when will improve. We can’t just let Xu Huo make appearances every time someone comes along; not to mention Xu Huo himself wouldn’t agree, Chief Wu wouldn’t allow such farcical things to happen either.

But if the directors of other branches really do come, Chief Wu cannot completely deny them entry. In the face of possible resource contention scenarios, the higher-ups have always turned a blind eye, just like Chief Wu can’t forcefully turn away everyone who comes to "help," they wouldn’t actually harshly punish minor excessive grabbing behaviors.

Just as Chief Wu was still thinking about an acceptable statement for everyone, members from a neighboring city’s Special Defense Sub-Department really did arrive.

When Chief Wu went out to meet them, his face could not have looked worse. He directly said to the visitors: "The security zone is conducting a drill and will not be receiving outsiders."

The visitor’s last name was Zhang. He laughed heartily and patted Chief Wu on the shoulder familiarly, "I heard that you have a situation here, so I hurried over to help. We all work in the Special Defense Department and belong to brotherly branches, why be so strict about it? The gate is over there, right? How about Chief Wu gives me a tour of your security zone, just to let me learn a bit."

Without waiting for Chief Wu’s agreement, he led his people straight inside. Fifteen players followed behind him, each carrying an air of solemnity.

They couldn’t really fight at the doorstep, so Chief Wu could only lead them to the reception room.

But once the players had entered, they had plenty of means to probe the internal situation of the security zone; however careful they were, some traces would inevitably be left.

The alarm devices in the security zone went off.

Chief Wu held back his temper and said to Director Zhang, "To make such a big fuss over a minor piece of news all the way to Ting City, Director Zhang, you will definitely receive punishment from the headquarters afterwards!"

Director Zhang was not afraid at all. He took a tablet computer from his assistant, placed it in front of him, and said, "This is a commendation document issued by the headquarters a week ago, saying that the small and refined model of Ting City Security Zone is worth learning from. Isn’t this why I am here to learn? Chief Wu, what minor news are you talking about?"

A reasonable person facing a shameless person is helpless; Chief Wu was still angry when the second and third batches of people arrived.

Chief Wu even laughed out of anger, but seeing that Director Zhang wasn’t as happy, he cheerfully invited everyone inside, "People who we can’t normally invite are all here today; Ting City has never been this lively!"

Having said this, he simply slapped his buttocks and left the reception room.

Just like that, members of the Special Defense Department from different branches gathered in the security zone, among them were President Tan Yang and Huang Junjie from the First Player Association.

These people gathered together, none conceding to the others, and many had frictions in the past. Without Chief Wu, they almost started fighting among themselves.

"When is he actually coming out?" Chief Wu sighed at the entrance of the detention room, fearing that too many players in the security zone could lead to an uncontrollable situation from a minor incident.

Not just him, even people like Qin Jingyuan felt the pressure—times really have changed.

"What’s the situation in the security zone?" a familiar voice suddenly rang beside him. Chief Wu immediately looked over joyfully, "Nie Xuan, you’re finally back! Are you hurt?"

Nie Xuan, like a sheathed blade, simply standing there cleared the tense atmosphere in the corridor. He bore no apparent injuries, though he was thinner than three months agoai and had a half-finger-long scar on his left eyebrow, slanting towards the tail of the brow, adding a fierce, blood-thirsty air to his demeanor.

"Is Xu Huo back?" He nodded to Chief Wu and then said, "I’ll handle those people outside."

His gaze swept over Qin Jingyuan and Professor Lan, pausing on Professor Tang Guangbo, "Professor Tang, what a coincidence."

Professor Tang Guangbo smiled and said nothing. Nie Xuan didn’t dwell further, took off his trench coat and swiftly headed to the conference room.

"Nie Xuan is quite a figure in the Special Defense Department, but Chief Wu couldn’t persuade those directors, can he?" Qin Jingyuan expressed doubt.

However, Nie Xuan managed to send away the directors and players lingering in the security zone with just one sentence:

"I’m back this time to recuperate for a month. During this month, I will request from the headquarters to handle Tian City’s players, and will ask various Special Defense Sub-Departments for cooperation. Colleagues who want to join me in achieving merits can stay and register their names."

A direct operation order from the headquarters is different—ignoring it would be tantamount to rebelling against the Special Defense Department, which would not end well.

Several directors left the security zone with darkened faces, but craftily left some people behind.

As long as they were not conspicuous across the region, it was fine.

Nie Xuan turned back to the detention room and gestured for the staff to open the door.

After he entered, the door closed again.

Seeing Xu Huo’s clothes all soaked, he frowned, "How did you end up looking like this?"

Xu Huo laughed, "No entering a tiger’s den, no getting a tiger’s son, besides I just seem to be in bad shape, killing a few people is no problem."

"I’ve already seen last night’s report," Nie Xuan said, "Two players died in a civilian residence not far from the security zone. You did it, right? To be injured like this and still able to go out to kill people, walking around wouldn’t cause players to gather outside the security zone... The domestic situation seems stable on the surface, but in reality, it has reached a bottleneck, and a single spark could set off a conflagration."

"Has the conflict between the government and players reached this stage?" Xu Huo raised an eyebrow.

"Conflicts always exist. The Super Props incident promoted widespread player transformation, and turning a large number of people into players also planted unstable elements." Nie Xuan took out a packet of cigarettes, lit one for himself, and leaned against the wall by the door, tipping his chin towards Xu Huo, "You seem to be struggling to spit it out, I’ll save one."

Xu Huo laughed, "High salary but still so stingy."

Nie Xuan exhaled a puff of smoke, tense and repressed like a fully drawn bow, "Not just the civilian player organizations, even the players under the Special Defense Department are testing the government’s attitude. Sooner or later, a decisive battle will determine the superior and inferior."

"This might not be a good time to handle Tian City," Xu Huo remarked.

Nie Xuan was not surprised he overheard, "The country also needs to show some power, both sides should clearly understand each other’s strengths, better gear up for a fight, better to subdue than to drag it out and leave endless troubles."

"It looks like the Special Defense Department is ready," Xu said, unsurprised as it was an inevitable step.

That’s when Nie Xuan looked at him deeply, "You’re quite formidable, going out and coming back with a Secondary Evolution, is this Spatial Power field in the security zone yours?"
