Chapter 402: Chapter 392 It’s All Because of Your Bad Idea_2
"Why?"
Xuanzang asked with some confusion.
The old woman sighed and said, "The country up ahead is called Annihilation Country, and the king has vowed to kill ten thousand monks; now he’s only four short!"
"Ah! Four..."
Zhu Bajie counted their group and said in alarm, "Doesn’t that mean we are exactly the ones he’s missing, Master, let’s turn back!"
"Master, don’t listen to Second Senior Brother, we have already come this far, how can we go back now!"
Sand Monk said hastily, not wanting to give up halfway just because of Zhu Bajie’s words.
Sun Wukong looked at the old woman with a smile that was not quite a smile.
When Xuanzang heard the old woman’s words, he also frowned and asked, "Old Bodhisattva, I wonder if it is possible to detour around?"
The old woman shook her head and said, "You cannot, you must go through the town to pass this way."
"So, old lady, I still advise you not to go!" she said and then left with the child.
"Big brother, who are those two? Why did they deliberately tell us this?"
Zhu Bajie was a bit surprised, "Could that old granny be Guanyin Bodhisattva?"
"You blockhead, you’re quite smart today. That person is indeed Guanyin Bodhisattva!"
Sun Wukong said with a laugh.
"That’s actually Guanyin Bodhisattva?"
Upon hearing this, Zhu Bajie was shocked and incredulous.
However, Xuanzang didn’t show much reaction.
He just furrowed his brows deeply.
"Since that is the case with Annihilation Country, what should we do?"
Xuanzang said, frowning.
"Master, if you are scared, let’s all turn back together!"
Zhu Bajie said with a smile.
"Second Senior Brother, why are you still saying such things?"
Sand Monk said, unable to hold back his annoyance.
"Then what do you suggest we do?"
Upon hearing this, Zhu Bajie also responded irritably, "Seeing the situation as it is, I guess as soon as we enter, we are doomed!"
"Big brother, you are skilled in Transformation; why not enter first, and since it’s getting dark now, we might find a secluded path. Maybe we’ll have a chance to go straight through!"
Xuanzang also thought this was a good idea and looked at Sun Wukong, saying, "Wukong, what do you think?"
Sun Wukong shrugged and said, "Old Sun doesn’t really care, but we can’t just bypass the proper procedures. Forget it, Old Sun will go in and have a look first!"
With that, Sun Wukong shook his body and turned into a moth, flying straight into the city.
There were still some people on the roads inside the city, along some secluded paths that could lead out of the city.
After a while, he flew outside an inn and saw a few people dressed in foreign clothes, which gave Sun Wukong an idea.
Watching them enter the inn to check in, and after they undressed to rest, Sun Wukong used his Mana to sweep away all their clothes and headwear with the wind.
"I wonder how Wukong’s scouting of the route is going!"
After a while, Xuanzang still hadn’t seen Sun Wukong come out and was getting worried.
"Master, don’t worry, even the Bagua Cauldron of the Grand Elder of the Supreme Way couldn’t deal with our big brother, let alone entering this small city!"
Zhu Bajie said, laughing confidently.
Sand Monk also showed a smile, thinking the Master was worried over nothing.
Just then, countless pieces of clothing fell from the sky, landing right on them.
"What’s this?"
Zhu Bajie looked at the clothes that had fallen on him, puzzled.
However, he immediately thought that this must have been done by Sun Wukong, recalling the time they had dealt with the Spider Spirit when Sun Wukong had also taken their clothes.
Seeing these clothes now made it clear it was Sun Wukong’s doing.
Indeed, at that moment, Sun Wukong appeared before them.
"Wukong, these clothes are?"
Xuanzang asked.
"Hehe, Master, although this country is called Annihilation Country, if we are not recognized as monks, wouldn’t we be able to pass through easily?"
"As long as we put on these clothes, how would they know we are monks?"
Sun Wukong said with a smile.
Zhu Bajie’s eyes lit up as he couldn’t help but say, "Brother Monkey speaks the truth, as long as we are no longer monks, they won’t kill us!"
As he spoke, he began looking for clothes.
Xuanzang still had some concerns at this time, while Sand Monk hurriedly reminded, "Master, Big Brother’s method is good!"
"Maybe we’ll even have a chance to exchange the documents!"
Seeing his disciples getting dressed, Xuanzang could only nod in agreement.
They then began to change into the clothes Sun Wukong had brought back. In moments, they took off their monk’s robes and put on the attire of merchants.
In the blink of an eye, they had transformed into merchants dealing in goods.
The four of them looked at each other. Already, it was impossible to tell they were monks.
After making sure there were no problems, they walked into the city with confidence.
They followed Sun Wukong to an inn directly opposite the one where he had stolen clothes.
The innkeeper was a woman named Widow Zhao.
Widow Zhao thought Xuanzang and his disciples were horse-trading merchants and welcomed them with beaming smiles.
She enthusiastically asked the waiter to slaughter chickens and geese, preparing a feast.
Zhu Bajie, hearing this, couldn’t help but drool.
Sun Wukong smiled and waved his hand, "No need, no need! Today is our day of fasting; you can prepare that another day. Just prepare some simple vegetarian dishes for us today, and we’ll retire to our room to rest after eating. You won’t miss out on a penny."
Although Widow Zhao was somewhat puzzled, she didn’t think much of it and asked the waiter to prepare meals for them.
During the meal, they deliberately talked about how much money they had made from horse trading, hoping not to arouse suspicion from those at the inn.
After eating, Sun Wukong then asked Widow Zhao for a darker room to sleep in.
"A darker room? We don’t have any of those!"
Widow Zhao was somewhat helpless. Who ever heard of such a request?
"That’s because you don’t know, madam innkeeper. He’s been stricken with a condition and cannot be exposed to drafts; he has been afraid of light since he was a child and cannot be exposed to it! Please be accommodating!"
Sun Wukong spoke as if such a condition truly existed.
"Oh, is that so!"
As the owner of the inn, she had no choice but to nod in agreement.
So Widow Zhao instructed her daughter to give the disciples a large cabinet to sleep in, measuring four feet wide, seven feet long, and three feet high.
Wukong looked at the large cabinet, found it satisfactory, asked the innkeeper to bring the White Horse over to the cabinet, and had it tied up. He also made sure the cabinet was locked.
Inside the pitch-dark cabinet, the four disciples jostled and pushed against each other, tossing and turning until well into the night before they finally fell asleep.
However, in the dead of night, a large group of thieves armed with clubs arrived at the inn to rob it.
They tried everything to find the horse-trading guests but could not locate them anywhere.
Only when they noticed a large cabinet in the room, with a big white horse tied to it and the cabinet doors securely locked, did they become suspicious.
Believing it to contain gold and silver treasures, they excitedly lifted the cabinet to carry it away.
The band of thieves had killed the city’s guards and fled the city.
Upon hearing the report, the Patrol General and the Military Marshal led their troops out of the city in a grand effort to catch the thieves.
Upon seeing the official troops, the thieves were so terrified their legs went weak, and they dared not fight.
They dropped the cabinet, left behind the white horse, and each fled for their lives.
"Sir, the thieves have fled, but they left behind a cabinet and a white horse. What should we do?"
Seeing the time and that the thieves were no longer in sight, the Patrol General said, "Take the cabinet back to the General Military Mansion for now. Tomorrow, I shall report to the king and let him decide how to handle it."
Hearing the conversation outside, Sun Wukong muttered that seeing the king tomorrow and the king ordering the cabinet to be opened would guarantee their deaths if it were discovered they were monks.
"Brother Monkey, we’re done for, all because of your rotten idea!"
Zhu Bajie said with a rueful smile.
"Second Senior Brother, you’re stepping on my hand!"
Sand Monk cried out in pain.
"Don’t worry, I’ve got a plan!"
Sun Wukong’s eyes darted around as he thought of a solution.
Without waiting for further questions, he transformed into an ant and crawled out of the cabinet.
After identifying the direction, he flew towards the Imperial Palace.
