Chapter 401: Chapter 392 It’s All Because of Your Bad Idea
Zhu Bajie rushed in hurriedly, shouting, "Master! The vegetarian meal is ready."
After he had finished shouting, he noticed that only Sand Monk was in the Meditation Room, busy packing their luggage.
"Where’s Master?" Zhu Bajie asked with a surprised look on his face.
Sand Monk answered with a smile, "Master’s illness has already healed. After bathing and changing his clothes, he went to the main hall to chat with the abbot, and your elder brother Wukong went with him."
"The monk wouldn’t think that his recovery is all thanks to the monks of this temple, would he? It’s clearly all because we looked after him well. What does it have to do with them? He doesn’t come to thank us but goes to thank the monks at the temple."
Zhu Bajie couldn’t help but complain.
Listennig to Zhu Bajie’s words, Sand Monk couldn’t help but laugh and say, "Enough with the complaints, come and help me pack. Master’s illness has delayed us a few days, and now that he’s better, he’s eager to get on the road. We plan to set off after having breakfast."
Zhu Bajie said with displeasure, "What’s the rush with our master, anyway? It’s not like he’s being reincarnated. He’s had plenty of rest over these few days while we not only had to deal with demons but also look after him day and night!"
"Not to mention how tired we are, he doesn’t even let us rest for a few days before he’s eager to get on the road, which is really unreasonable."
Complaining won’t solve anything. Instead of grumbling, why not do some work? The sooner we finish, the sooner we can rest. Do more, talk less."
Sand Monk laughed and shook his head as he spoke.
He was also looking forward to retrieving the True Scriptures and then returning to the Celestial Court.
After that, he couldn’t be bothered with the fool and busied himself with packing up their luggage.
After a while, the monks from the temple delivered the vegetarian meal, laying out five big tables worth of food, as sumptuous as before. The fool, seeing the meal, instantly perked up. He chuckled and went to start eating.
Sand Monk quickly stopped Zhu Bajie, saying irritably, "Second Senior Brother, Master hasn’t come back yet, how can you start eating? You have no manners at all."
"Who knows what our Master is up to? Waiting for him to come back, the dishes would probably be cold. It’s better for us to fill our stomachs and save the trouble! I, Old Pig, am already starving."
Zhu Bajie grudgingly put down his chopsticks, looking displeased.
"We still need to wait for Master to come before we eat. Master hasn’t eaten yet, and we disciples are eating first? That doesn’t seem right," Sand Monk said seriously, shaking his head.
As he spoke, there was suddenly a commotion from outside, sounding like it was Xuanzang talking with the abbot of the temple.
They heard the elder abbot saying, "I cannot thank you enough, Holy Monks, for subduing the evil spirits and saving the lives of all the monks in our temple."
Xuanzang hastily said, "It was a minor effort, abbot. Please don’t worry about it. However, we have stayed here for several days, causing you inconvenience; I hope the abbot can forgive us."
"What are you saying, Holy Monk? Although our temple is not wealthy, we still have some provisions. It’s not just a matter of fostering you for a few days; even if it were for a few years, we could afford it."
"Besides, you are our lifesavers. We would be more than happy for you to stay at the temple longer, allowing us to express our gratitude," said the abbot earnestly.
As they talked, the group had arrived at the Meditation Room. Zhu Bajie quickly stood up and said, "Master, you are finally back. The vegetarian meal is ready. Can we start eating now?"
With the abbot’s company, Xuanzang and others had their breakfast together. There were five tables of dishes, with Zhu Bajie alone consuming three of them.
Xuanzang, Sun Wukong, Sand Monk, the abbot of Jinghai Temple, and two Elders ate a total of two tables.
After they were full and had tea, Xuanzang bid farewell to the abbot.
His recent illness had delayed their journey.
If it weren’t for his illness, he might have already left.
So as soon as he was better, he urged them to set off, hoping to make up for the lost time.
The abbot, unable to persuade them to stay, could only let them go. By now, Sand Monk had already packed their luggage.
Carrying the luggage and leading the horse, Sand Monk followed behind Xuanzang and the others.
The abbot of Jinghai Temple, leading all the monks, personally escorted Xuanzang and his disciples beyond the temple gates. Watching their backs disappear into the distance, the abbot reluctantly returned to the temple.
After leaving Jinghai Temple, Xuanzang and his disciples continued their journey westward, covering dozens of miles in one go.
That day, they reached a willow forest, and from the shade of the trees came an old lady leading a child.
"Who is that? It’s not a demon, is it?"
Sand Monk looked at the old woman and the child.
Although they didn’t seem like demons, who could tell? They might suddenly kidnap the Master, and then they’d be running around frantically again.
Junior Brother Sand, not so many demons are out there. Don’t be so paranoid!"
Zhu Bajie laughed, thinking Sand Monk was making a big deal out of nothing.
But Sand Monk wasn’t interested in Zhu Bajie’s words and instead looked to Sun Wukong, for the elder brother could see through a demon’s disguise.
"Relax, these two are not demons at all!"
Sun Wukong narrowed his eyes and immediately recognized them as Guanyin Bodhisattva and the boy Scatterwealth.
Upon hearing what Wukong said, Sand Monk breathed a sigh of relief.
As the old lady and the boy approached, they seemed to notice Xuanzang and warned, "You should hurry to the east! You can’t get through ahead; it’s a dead end!"
