Chapter 78: Jealous?
Chapter 78: Jealous?
"I’m not." Chris snapped.
Pissed? He didn’t have any reason to be pissed at Sky.
Judgy look? He also had no right to be judgy.
But his tone, look, and entire countenance said otherwise.
Sky’s eyes narrowed to a squint. "You indeed are."
Chris looked at the TV briefly, trying to ignore him but he simply couldn’t and looked at Sky at once.
"You are the type to not pursue flings cos you believe in monogamy. At least, that’s what I’ve observed from the things you’ve said and how you act. But you seem to think it’s fine to kiss just anyone—"
"Be calm." Sky interrupted his rant.
Chris stopped ranting and furrowed his brows, wondering why he felt so frustrated and pissed when it wasn’t his business who Sky chose to lock lips with.
"It’s fine," Chris mumbled, feeling a mix of irritation and embarrassment at being called out.
He turned to look at the TV and grabbed a biscuit, shoving it into his mouth.
All the while, Sky continued to look at him. There was a hint of curiosity in his gaze but also amusement, which annoyed Chris because nothing was funny.
Chris could feel his gaze, but he ignored it. However, Sky brought his thumb towards his face and carefully used it to wipe off the crumb of biscuit he had in the corner of his mouth.
That was when Chris turned to stare at him, and Sky retrieved his hand but with his piercing gaze on Chris, he asked softly, "How many people have you kissed, Chris?"
Chris did not like this mood.
But most importantly, he did not like this question.
Yes. How many people have you kissed, Chris??
He had kissed quite a few. So what right did he have to be mad at Sky?
Was this the beginning of the infamous jealousy, which he hated with every fibre of his being?
Whenever he was jealous, he always did crazy things.
Either he was always fighting with the person who was making him feel that way or he was going after whoever the person he was interested in was going after.
"That seems like a guilty look." Sky pointed out, asking, "So it’s okay for you to do it but not me?"
Yes.
"It’s... different," Chris muttered instead.
Curious, his voice came. "How so?"
"I don’t think it’s not a big deal, but you act like kissing is so casual, like it doesn’t mean anything."
Seriously, Chris! It is none of your business!
Sky shrugged, his indifference only adding to Chris’s frustration. "Does it matter how we see it when we all do the same thing? It’s just a kiss, Chris. Relax."
"Just a kiss?" Chris repeated incredulously. "You make it sound like it’s as simple as a handshake."
Sky chuckled softly, finding Chris’s reaction amusing. "Well, it kinda is, isn’t it? It’s just a way of showing affection or...whatever," he said, struggling to put his feelings into words.
Chris was trying hard to be indifferent about it just like Sky was, but he couldn’t. The act this morning was something he could not stop thinking about, yet to Sky, it was just a normal thing he could do with anyone.
Yes, he had kissed people before, but he at least had to like them or be attracted to them before even considering doing that at all. But for Sky, it seemed to be just another casual gesture. The thought that Sky might not be bothered by their kiss as much as he was left him feeling uneasy.
"So, you’re saying you’re okay with kissing... me?" Chris asked, a hint of vulnerability in his voice.
"Again?" Sky asked, looking at him.
He didn’t try to play around now and answered just as it came to him. "Yes. Again."
Sky looked thoughtful for a moment before he chuckled lightly, lazily unwrapping his hair from the towel to run his finger through the damp locs.
No. He didn’t have to do that now. Especially not when they were talking about something like that!
"Did you enjoy the first one in your sleepy daze?" Sky teased.
Chris couldn’t help but feel annoyed by Sky’s indifference. But he was Christopher Owen. Two can always play the game.
"Let’s say I did..."
"Oh... is this like you trying to step up your seduction skills by a notch?" He asked casually as he picked up his juice to sip from it while he still locked eyes with Chris. "Or you wish to kiss me imagining it’s with Rain?"
Chris didn’t like it when Sky taunted him like this. He should be grateful for Sky’s misunderstanding since that saved him from explaining a lot, but he didn’t like that Sky thought he always imagined he was Rain.
He wanted Sky to know that it was him! At the same time, he didn’t want him to know. But before he could stop himself, he blurted out, "I didn’t think you were Rain when I did it."
Silence followed.
Sky searched his eyes with his, and then he snorted. "Could have fooled me, Chris. You clearly said her name."
He had? When?
He hadn’t even thought about her!
Oh... he had. When he thought they looked alike.
But he had said her name?
"I didn’t want to make it a big deal. I don’t know why you are." Sky added calmly. "Do not overthink this, and let’s just see this movie, shall we?"
Chris didn’t know whether he was supposed to appreciate his open-mindedness or not. But he also felt it was best to drop the topic, so he nodded and turned his gaze to the TV, even though nothing in there made any sense to him right now.
As the cartoon continued to play in the background, they settled back into watching it, their shoulders occasionally brushing against each other, but none of them said another word.
Up until exhaustion kicked in and Chris drifted off to sleep.
