Chapter 77: Not a big deal

Sky’s nonchalant response about the "kiss this morning" caught Chris completely off guard. His eyes widened with shock. Startled, Chris choked on his drink. He sputtered and coughed, bringing his hand to his chest. Concerned, Sky reached out to gently pat him on the back, but Chris quickly raised a hand to stop him. He looked at Sky with a mix of shock and confusion.

Had he really kissed Sky this morning? It had felt so real, but he had brushed it off as a dream.

Stammering, Chris tried to explain, "Wait, I... thought it was a dream; I didn’t mean to... I mean, did that really happen?"

Sky looked at him with a mixture of amusement and understanding. "Yeah, it happened. You were half asleep, but you kissed me," he said, taking a sip of his own drink nonchalantly.

"It... wasn’t a dream?" Chris asked himself, shocked and in disbelief. But once again, he had said his thoughts aloud, and Sky faced him with a raised eyebrow.

"How would I know about it if it were a dream? And... why would you think you were dreaming about kissing me?" he replied, his curiosity evident.

Chris felt stunned, unable to find the right words to explain himself.

That was correct. Why would he be dreaming about kissing Sky like he claimed?

Sky’s words left him utterly bewildered. Finally, after a moment of silence, Sky said to him, "It was her."

"What?" Chris managed to ask.

"You probably thought it was Rain." To Chris’s surprise, he used his index finger to shove his forehead back as he said, "You really need to work on your vision."

Feeling torn between embarrassment, guilt, and confusion and utter disbelief at his weird confusion again, Chris eventually managed to apologize. "I’m... sorry. It was... a mistake."

Sky cut him off with a wave of his hand, dismissing the apology. "It’s fine, really. It isn’t a big deal," he said casually, trying to lighten the mood.

But Chris was still embarrassed, especially when he remembered the short conversation before he kissed Sky. And also remembering how it had come as a shock to Sky in his ’dream’ when he kissed him.

How could he have been so stupid to not understand the clear difference between a dream and reality?

Sky spared him and glance and when he noticed the loom on his face, he spoke again to reassure him.

"Come on, it’s okay," Sky said in a light tone, placing a hand on Chris’s shoulder. "You were half-asleep, and I know you didn’t mean anything by it. Besides... your lips are pretty soft, so I won’t complain," he briefly glanced at Chris’s lips as he teased with a playful glint in his eyes.

Chris’s heart skipped a beat at Sky’s words. What did he mean by that?

He had tried to convince himself not to read meaning into his behaviour, but he could not help it. He didn’t exactly know many people so he could not ask them about their reaction if they had been in Sky’s shoes.

However, Chris tried to brush it off with a nervous laugh. "Well, I’m glad you’re taking it lightly. I don’t want to make things awkward between us."

Sky smiled warmly at him as he replied. "You won’t. Nothing would change my being your big bro. Not even a silly, half-asleep kiss would change that. Now, let’s just enjoy the movie and forget about it, okay?"

WHAT!

THE!

HELL?

Big bro?

Was this guy trying to piss him off by constantly trying to put him in these weird zones he didn’t appreciate?

But that shouldn’t matter now, should it? He just had to be thankful that his ’big bro’ wasn’t making a big deal out of the issue.

They continued to watch the cartoon, but Chris couldn’t help but steal glances at Sky now and then, his mind wandering to the feelings he had inadvertently exposed himself to. Most importantly, he could not stop thinking about the kiss. If it had felt like that in his daze, how would it feel to do it in his clear state of mind?

A nasty part of his mind regretted why he hadn’t gone further. He should have tasted his lips more. At least, it seemed like Sky didn’t mind much as he was not making a big deal out of it.

He stole another glance at Sky, looking closely at his moving lips as he chewed a snack.

But then, something struck him. ’Sky didn’t mind much!’

"It isn’t a big deal." Sky had said that.

Did it mean the kiss? Or the fact that Chris had kissed him half asleep?

But then he realized it was not the latter because the last time they had both seen a movie in their dorm, Sky had said, "Kissing is normal. It’s not a big deal."

Those words rang in his head, and he instantly felt a bitter taste in his mouth.

"Is it really normal for you?" Chris asked before he could stop himself.

He thought Sky hadn’t heard him since his attention was on the TV, but then Sky picked up another biscuit and turned slowly, his eyes locked with Chris, and before he bit into the biscuit, he asked, "What is?"

"Kissing someone." He mentioned.

Sky raised a questioning brow. "What about it?"

"Is it normal for you? You can kiss anyone?"

Sky’s gaze remained on Chris’s face as he softly asked, "Why are you looking at me like that?" His voice had a hint of curiosity and amusement.

"Like what?" Chris asked him in confusion since he also had no idea of the kind of emotion his face was revealing.

"Like you are pissed. Or judging me. Something like that." Sky pointed out.

"I’m not." Chris snapped.
