Chapter 68: What the hell was happening?

Dearies, I’m sorry about the previous Chapter. I hope none of you opened it. I accidentally uploaded a Chapter of my other book and yesterday’s Chapter cleared off.

I cannot replace it with this Chapter so instead this is coming as a new Chapter.

Thanks for understanding.

The pool party was in full swing, and the atmosphere was electric with laughter, music, and the sound of splashing water. The party had already escalated to a wild level. In one corner of the pool area, a group of teenagers were playing water volleyball, their competitive spirit evident in their spirited shouts and playful banter.

Near the poolside, another group was engrossed in a game of "Chicken Fight," where two people would team up, one sitting on the shoulders of the other, and they’d try to knock opponents off balance in the water. The cheers from the spectators fueled the participants’ enthusiasm.

The pool party was in full swing, with the music blaring and people laughing and splashing around in the water. But Chris felt awkward and out of place. This wasn’t his party. Now he was alone in a corner, not sure where Wilson and Rachel were. He just crossed his legs while chewing gum as he observed the festivities. If he wasn’t watching them, he was scrolling through his phone.

Nothing was fun.

Until something interesting caught his eye.

He noticed Rain entering the party. Her attire seemed out of place for a pool party, as she wore a hoodie covering her head and matching joggers, and it was clear she wasn’t here for the fun. It was just like Sky had appeared, but the difference between them was that while Sky looked like he would rather be anywhere than here with a bored expression on his face, Rain, on the other hand, looked angry, and her eyes also scanned the place, looking for someone.

Her eyes found him, and she mouthed, "Sky."

So that was who she was looking for. Why did she look like that?

Chris shrugged and gestured with his thumb at the main building. As Rain moved with determined steps, ignoring the attention she was getting, Chris couldn’t help but wonder what was wrong. Eventually, he saw her disappear into the house.

Curious, he stood up and decided to head in too. He was concerned about what was happening and where the other people were. He went into the magnificent building linked to the main building, which Rain had taken.

It was a luxurious guesthouse with a spacious lounge, exquisite paintings adorning the walls, and chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, casting a warm, inviting glow. Of course, people were also littered everywhere, and it was difficult for him to move properly without bumping into someone or someone bumping into him.

Although the guesthouse was grand and beautiful, Chris couldn’t help but make an unconscious comparison to his parents’ extravagant home. It didn’t impress him as much, but he appreciated the effort put into its design.

That was the problem with rich people. They were rarely impressed.

He continued to wander from room to room, looking for any familiar faces. In each room, he stumbled upon groups of teenagers engaged in various activities. Some were dancing, others were playing video games, and a few were just chatting away, enjoying the party vibes.

Finally, he found Rachel and Noel in one room with a particularly intense drinking game underway. The game involved a deck of cards, and the rules were simple yet entertaining. Each player would take turns drawing a card from the deck. The number on the card determined the number of sips they had to take, while the suit dictated the type of drink: spades for vodka shots, diamonds for tequila, clubs for beer, and hearts for mixed cocktails. As the game progressed, the laughter grew louder, and the players’ faces got a little rosier. Rachel looked a bit drunk, so he was worried about leaving her alone, especially with Noel, who was beside her and also looking a little drunk. But they were both really having fun, and he didn’t want to interrupt, so he just crossed his arms, chewing his gum with his back resting against the wall.

While observing the game, a girl approached Chris with a flirtatious grin, trying to catch his attention. But Chris was no stranger to attention from the opposite sex, and when he was not interested in someone, he was quite obvious about it, even more than Sky was. He simply exchanged a brief smile with her but decided to focus on watching the drinking game. His indifference to her advances was very clear to the girl, who eyed him and walked away.

Watching the game was more fun than he had expected. He found himself engrossed in the excitement, laughing along with the antics of the drinking game participants, and appreciating the lively atmosphere surrounding him. He would give it to Ash. He knew how to throw a party. Or maybe these people just knew how to party because the energy and enthusiasm of the party were contagious.

One time, Rachel finally saw him, and her happy beam made him smile and wave back at her when she waved. Noel also noticed him and gave him a thumbs-up while grinning.

Yeah, he was indeed drunk.

Chris began to wonder about the others. He had been so engrossed in the game for the past few minutes that he had forgotten about the others, especially Sky and Wilson. So he left the room, taking note of this particular room to return here for Rachel later.

He moved from room to room in search of his friends, and when his frustration was just beginning to set in, he opened one door and was almost surprised to find the people he was looking for. Rain was in the middle of a heated argument with Sky while Henry and Collins tried to mediate the situation.

It seemed like a tense moment, and Chris hesitated for a moment before accidentally catching their attention.

The four pairs of eyes immediately went to the door, but the alertness in their eyes reduced when they saw Chris.

"You can get lost now," Sky spoke to Rain in a tone Chris had never heard him use before. He was angry.

"Pathetic low-self-esteemed jerk!" Rain glared at her brother before storming out of the room, her emotions clearly running high.

Chris was beyond stunned at this point. Whatever was happening between them seemed very serious. Otherwise, what was the meaning of all this?

Chris didn’t get the chance to gauge the situation in the room before Rain stormed past him with teary eyes, brushing his shoulder. Since Sky was with his two friends, he felt compelled to follow her out of concern, and so he did.

Rain rudely brushed past the people as she headed out, so it was tough for Chris to easily catch up with her since he had to try not to bump into people.

"Rain, wait up," Chris called, catching up to her outside the room and grabbing her wrist.

"What do you want?" Rain snapped, her frustration evident in her tone.

Chris let go of her hand, and thankfully, she didn’t walk away.

"You’re not okay." He pointed it out just as she sniffled and used a hand to wipe away the drop of tears that had escaped her eyes.

"Sky is an idiot. You should tell him that." She said it in an angry tone.

"Why? What’s wrong?"

"I can’t believe he came to this party and was even happily drinking with him! He knows best what an asshole Ash is and is supposed to not have any direct relations with him. I guess I’m the stupid one for caring about him when he doesn’t even care for himself. I even had to come here to remind him like the idiot that I am, and yet—"

"You need to calm down a bit, Rain." He said in a soft tone and looked around them, but the others were busy enjoying the party.

Calm down? She didn’t.

"I can’t believe I shared the same womb space with that boy!"

"Okay... I don’t know what happened between Sky and Ash, but if you hate him so much to the point where you showed up here to quarrel with him, why did you place a bet on him during the bike race? I mean... you talked about betting on him to win cash, right?" Chris asked, merely curious.

"Are you taking his side right now?" She glared at him before snapping. "How are the scenarios the same? That was just a bet! It’s not like I support him or anything. It’s for myself. My money."

Chris raised an eyebrow. Maybe it made sense to her, but it didn’t make much sense to him. Sky could as well say he didn’t come here for Ash but came to have fun.

"Isn’t that a bit hypocritical, though? You’re against your brother for being friends with Ash, but you bet on him? It seems contradictory."

"You really are taking his side." She scoffed. "You know nothing." She said in an angry tone and was about to walk away, but she turned to him and added, "And you tell him. As long as he keeps associating with someone like that, then he’ll no longer be my brother!" Before leaving a confused Chris behind.

Just what the hell was happening?
