Chapter 69: Friendsitter
Chapter 69: Friendsitter
After what had happened between Chris and Rain, he wasn’t sure what to do next. He didn’t like involving himself in conflicts or other people’s affairs except on special occasions. And he definitely didn’t want to get entangled in whatever disagreement the siblings had. But he could not help it when he was this curious.
Sky’s tone had been intense. Rain’s, too. Plus, she had even cried. And now she had made him out to be against her since he had indirectly taken Sky’s side.
Nah. He reminded himself that none of it was his business. Fine, he was attracted to Sky, but that was as far as he wanted to leave it. He didn’t want to start getting too involved before something weird happened.
He decided it was best to leave this place now. The sun had already set, and he believed he had seen every fun thing there was to see by now. His current mission was to find Wilson since he already knew where Rachel was, but that was a big challenge, especially when no one here knew who Wilson was except for a very few who had seen them together earlier. He tried calling Wilson, but it went unanswered the first time. He tried again, and to his frustration, the call wouldn’t connect. Typical of crowded parties.
He sighed in frustration before he began to scan the crowd for his friend.
He returned to the room where Rachel was and was surprised, but not so surprised, that Rachel was no longer there. Neither was Noel. It meant he had to look for two people now, and he hoped that at least Wilson was able to control himself since this wasn’t exactly a familiar place for him and he wouldn’t try to get drunk like a fish.
After a while of fruitless searching for both without seeing even a familiar face to ask, Chris was growing tired and felt the pressing need to use the bathroom. On his way to find a less crowded room he could use, he saw him. Sky.
He was sitting on a couch with people all around him, and from each side, someone was passing him a little glass shot of drink, and when he was done gulping that one, another person was offering him another.
Chris watched, curious. Was that even safe?
Sky’s face was nonchalant. The only thing he seemed interested in were the drinks, not even the giggling and chatty ladies around him.
Their gazes met briefly, and they stared at each other. Chris was torn for a second, wondering if he should go and rescue Sky from them. He waited just in case Sky would give him any kind of signal that he wanted to be rescued, but then Sky glared.
Like... he glared at him!
Then he turned his eyes away and took another gulp.
Well, that was the asshole’s answer.
Chris frowned and turned away. Why was he even bothered by this idiot?
He opened the next door he found, not bothering if many people were inside or not. He simply wanted to ease his bladder and go look for the others. He wasn’t surprised when he found a couple having sex in bed with a duvet covering their naked parts. They briefly glanced at him.
The glare in the jock’s eyes tried to scare him away, but he snorted before he closed the door behind him and went towards the door he believed was the bathroom, and then he opened it just as the guy on the bed was yelling at him to fuck off.
Chris stood there, eyes wide, when he saw the unexpected sight before him inside the bathroom. The same Wilson he had been looking for everywhere was right there, passionately making out with... Ash!
When they saw him, they immediately pushed each other away, with both of their faces flushed from either the act or embarrassment at getting caught.
Chris was shocked and felt a mix of emotions: disbelief, confusion, and anger. The urge to urinate vanished immediately.
"I... tried to stop him from going in there!" The jock behind him, who had succeeded in wearing his briefs, said as he approached them, panic in his eyes.
"What do you think you are doing?" Chris asked Wilson in an angry tone.
"It’s not what you think it is," Ash said in a light tone while trying to act cute as he brushed his hair to the back with his hand.
The worst part was that while Ash looked and sounded sane, Wilson was too drunk to have a coherent conversation at the moment.
Realizing that Wilson was in no condition to talk reasonably, Chris became even furrier. He was seething with anger and couldn’t contain his emotions, so without a second thought, he punched Ash in the face.
"You took advantage of a drunk person! You’re despicable!" Chris shouted, his voice laced with righteous fury.
Ash nonchalantly touched the little cut on his lip that had come from the punch and looked at the blood on his thumb. It seemed like the jock who had been on the bed with the girl was about to interfere when Ash raised a hand at him to stop. By now, the girl with him had already left the room in embarrassment.
"C-Chris... stop it." Wilson managed to say as he went to hold Chris.
Chris grabbed his friend, ready to pull him out with him, when Ash spoke up calmly. Big mistake.
"Why are you reacting this way? Do you like Wilson or something?" He asked Chris, who turned to look at him with dark eyes.
"I mean, he enjoyed it. Didn’t you, Will?" Ash asked him.
Fury boiling within him, Chris raised his hand for another punch but was faced with an obstacle when someone grabbed his hand from behind.
His sharp eyes turned to the person. It was Sky.
"What the hell do you think you are doing?" He asked in irritation.
He wasn’t sure where he had come from or why he was stopping him!
"I wouldn’t do that if I were you," Ash spoke to Chris in a smug tone while looking at his hanging fist.
"Once could be termed a mistake. But twice..." He let his words trail off. He smiled.
"Are you threatening him?" Wilson asked. Despite being drunk, his tone sounded annoyed, and he tried to glare at Ash but succeeded in winking instead.
"No. I’m only telling him how it is. I’m sure Sky here knows best. That’s why he is saving you." Ash looked at Sky.
"It’s enough!" Sky said sternly to Ash before he looked at Chris and said, "Don’t."
Was he... taking Ash’s side right now?
"Get lost!" Chris said to him angrily before he forcefully pulled his hand out of Sky’s grip and landed another solid punch right on Ash’s jaws.
"I’d like to see what an asshole like you is capable of doing." Chris challenged him before he walked away with his friend, leaving the others inside.
"Wait, hold on..." Wilson said as he tried to keep up with Chris’s pace.
Chris stopped at once and turned to face him.
"Are you an idiot? Now you cheat?" He shouted, his emotions getting the better of him. Even if Jack wasn’t exactly his friend, he had known him for years and could consider him an acquaintance. So the fact that Wilson had done this...
"I... don’t know, okay? I needed some time for myself, and things got out of control," Wilson slurred, then glared at him. At least he did it right this time. "You didn’t have to show up and embarrass me when I was only trying to have fun!"
Only trying to have fun?
Chris looked at him like he was very stupid. But then he decided not to blame him since he was drunk now. He was going to decide how pissed he would get after they had a proper conversation when sober.
Chris simply pulled him out, and after they passed the gates, he remembered there was still Rachel. He groaned from frustration, exhausted.
Fortunately, he spotted a taxi that had just dropped off two girls who had come to the party and stopped it before it would drive away.
Wilson mumbled a few incoherent words as Chris tried to get him in the back seat. With some effort, they managed to get Wilson into the backseat.
Chris leaned over to the taxi driver and said, "I need to find my other friend before we go. Can you wait for a few minutes? I’ll pay for the waiting time?"
Of course, the cab driver didn’t mind and nodded understandingly.
Then he quickly returned inside and scanned the surroundings, looking for any sign of Rachel. Thankfully, it didn’t take long this time. He spotted her sitting on a nearby bench, looking a little disoriented, and as soon as she saw him, she beamed and embraced him when he got closer.
At least she wasn’t making out with anyone; he could manage this.
"Where are we off to?" She asked when he held her by the hand and began to lead her out.
"We need to get back to the hotel. Wilson’s in the taxi waiting for us," Chris replied curtly without breaking his stride.
Together, they made their way back to the taxi, where the driver patiently waited. Chris helped Rachel into the back seat too and then settled in at the front with a loud, exhausted sigh.
As the taxi drove through the city streets, Chris kept a watchful eye on the two. Wilson had dozed off, and Rachel seemed to be struggling to stay awake as well.
He didn’t know whether to be thankful he hadn’t drank or regret it because he wouldn’t have stressed himself this much today.
Unfortunately, it was not the end for the night.
