Chapter 67: Pool party

Chapter 67: Pool party

The day was thankfully sunny, but a cool breeze still lingered in the air, reminding Chris that he would not be getting into the pool. Not that he had planned to anyway. To him, it was gross sharing a pool with so many people, and he’d rather just watch from the sides. That wasn’t the case for Rachel and Wilson, who seemed excited about it. Rachel had come with a swimming truck, while Wilson was more than excited to remain in his boxers.

The three of them approached the impressive white building where Ash’s pool party was in full swing. As they got closer, the sound of laughter, splashes, and loud music grew louder, hinting at the lively atmosphere inside.

The building itself was a sight to behold, with a modern design that exuded elegance and luxury. Its white colour contrasted beautifully against the blue sky, and large glass windows showcased the fun happening within. As they reached the gate, they saw people scattered around the pool area, enjoying themselves in their swim trunks and colourful bikinis.

"Wow, this place is amazing!" Wilson exclaimed, taking in the scene before them. "It’s been so long since I last enjoyed a party."

"You’re not even sure you’re going to enjoy it." Chris pointed out.

Rachel also looked at the place in awe. It was the first time she had been invited to Ash’s party. And this was the first time she was going to enter this place. It was one of the most beautiful houses in the town.

They hadn’t been sure about how to get Wilson inside since the party is strictly by invitation, but on getting closer to the gates, they were surprised when the guys there enthusiastically let them in.

"You are a big name everywhere," Wilson said, winking at Chris, who shrugged like it wasn’t a big deal just as they went in.

The poolside was a buzzing hive of activity. Some were engaged in water volleyball, their laughter echoing across the pool area. Others lounged on sunbeds, sipping drinks, and chatting away. The DJ booth was booming with catchy tunes, keeping the energy levels high. As usual, some were making out openly.

Well, Chris guessed he had been quick to judge these people for being modest and different from what he was used to.

As they found a spot to settle down, Wilson glanced around and remarked, "This is impressive, no doubt, but it doesn’t quite beat the epic parties you used to throw, Chris."

Rachel chimed in, "Yeah, I always heard those were legendary. But let’s give Ash some credit; this party is pretty epic in its own right."

Wilson nodded, acknowledging Rachel’s point. "You’re right. I guess I’m just feeling a bit nostalgic. Those parties were wild! But for real, I have not spotted an ugly person."

Wasn’t he correct?

At least more people were confirming that these people here were all pretty. Not that he was not confident about his looks, but he wondered why Sky always acted like his looks were a big deal.

A ’waiter’ wearing a pink bikini approached them with a tray of wine glasses, and Wilson was quick to snag one. Rachel took one next, but Chris didn’t and just shook his head. The girl winked at him before she walked away, swaying her hips as she moved.

"Why aren’t you drinking?" Wilson asked Chris after taking a big gulp from his.

"I know you, Wilson. Someone has to be sober here."

Wilson laughed. "See why I love him?" He said lightly to Rachel, who chuckled and sipped her wine.

"The wine tastes good... and expensive." She remarked.

"It is! Unfortunately, we’re denying Chris this because he needs to be the gentleman here."

She giggled, and Chris rolled his eyes at the two of them.

"Aren’t you guys going to change and enjoy the party, or are you going to just chat pointlessly here?"

"You really aren’t going to join us?" Rachel asked him, and he shook his head.

Just then, Emily approached them. She was wearing a bright red bikini, revealing all her assets to their eyes.

Chris tried not to take it all in.

She smiled as she joined them and sat down right across from Chris. It was obvious the seat belonged to someone else, but she pushed the scarf and novel off the seat and onto the floor.

Ah! Chris remembered. She was Ash’s cousin.

"You still didn’t call me." She said to him without even saying hello, nor did she acknowledge his friends.

Wilson looked at the two of them and raised a questioning brow at Rachel, who shrugged.

"I didn’t," Chris answered her.

"Why?" She asked.

Chris looked behind her, noting how many eyes were staring at them. Was it because of him? Rachel? Emily, or three of them?

She nodded before turning to look at Rachel as she said, "You can join us ladies in the third room by your left. Second floor."

Rachel turned to look at her, surprised but hesitant.

Amid their conversation, their attention was suddenly diverted to an unusual sight. Walking in slow motion (at least in Chris’s eyes) towards the pool area was a figure that caught everyone’s gaze.

There was only one person capable of catching everyone’s gaze.

It was Sky Sato, clad in an outfit that stood out starkly from the poolside attire. He wore cargo pants and a plain tee shirt with a jacket that was zipped up slightly above his chest. His bun bounced behind him with each step he took, and his nose ring and earring glinted in the sunlight.

He looked like a stunning enigma amidst the sea of swimwear.

Chris was taken aback and just stared, transfixed. Wait. What was he doing here? Hadn’t he said he wasn’t coming?

"As expected of him." Rain remarked in displeasure before she turned to continue her conversation; unfortunately, all their eyes were fixed in Sky’s direction.

Chris briefly caught sight of the displeased glare she gave them before she stood up and walked away.

"Is that... who I think it is?" Wilson asked, caught off guard as he looked at the boy approaching with three other guys around him. He seemed to be lost in a conversation with them, oblivious to all the eyes staring at him.

Or maybe he knew. Because he was Sky and already knew the kind of air he had around him.

As Sato drew nearer, the crowd couldn’t help but glance his way. He had an air of confidence that demanded attention, and his striking appearance left many in awe. Sato greeted a few familiar faces with a warm smile, but his main focus was on his friends. He laughed at something Noel said and brushed his hair behind him lazily.

That laugh.

"I understand." Wilson breathed out. He could definitely understand why Chris had been confused and wasn’t making any effort to move. That guy, right there, was his roommate.

Suddenly, his eyes found Chris. He stared for a while before he looked at his friends and said something to them, and at once, three more pairs of eyes were looking in their direction.

Both Noel and Henry seemed excited to see them and even waved, but it was obvious Noel’s wave was directed at Rachel, who waved back. Collins, as usual, looked like he’d rather be anywhere else. But at least he wasn’t holding a book. Just a backpack like the other guys, except for Sky.

When they got closer, the guys said their greetings, and Chris raised a brow at Sky and asked, "I thought you said you weren’t coming?"

However, before Sky could answer, someone else did.

"I called him. And I’m even beyond surprised he showed up." Ash sauntered towards them, wearing a see-through fishnet shirt and white shorts. "You add a touch of glamour to the whole event," he turned to say to Sky with a smile.

"Whatever," Sky replied uninterestedly and looked away from him. He was obviously not interested in chatting with him.

"Who is this?" Sky asked Chris, cocking his chin towards Wilson.

Well, rude!

But Wilson didn’t seem to mind because he stood up and extended a hand. "Chris’s friend, Wilson. And you must be Sky?"

Chris watched with furrowed brows. Wilson was acting suspiciously. He, however, tried to remind himself that Wilson was in a relationship and wasn’t the type to suddenly crush on someone just because he was pretty.

It was clear Sky didn’t want to shake hands with him, but he reluctantly did and released it almost immediately as he said, "You don’t live around here."

"Nah. I travelled all the way here to spend the holidays with Chris because I missed him so much." He said this, turning to wink at Chris, who gave him a questioning look, wondering what he was trying to do.

"I’m Henry." He said excitedly, extending a hand to Wilson.

"Pleased to meet you, Henry."

They shook hands, and unlike Sky’s, they didn’t pull away immediately.

"You all are welcome. I hope you have the best of fun." Ash said before he turned to Sky. "Can I talk to you for a minute?"

"What’s up?" Sky asked disinterestedly.

"Privately," Ash spoke to him quietly. It looked like Sky wanted to decline when Ash added, "Please..."

Sky glared at him before he turned to look at Chris and said a quiet, "See you later." Then he followed Ash.

"What’s up between them?" Chris could not help but ask.

"Just one of those things," Noel said before he turned to Rachel. "Want me to show you to the ladies so you can get changed?"

"Thank you." She said politely and followed him.

"Do you want to go change too?" Henry asked Wilson, who looked down at himself. "There isn’t much to change, by the way, but I can just go. Haha."

Henry also let out a laugh as he led Wilson away from there.

Now, there were only Chris and Collins left.

What an awkward combo.
