Chapter 52: Focus, Chris!
Chapter 52: Focus, Chris!
Normally, Chris would have ignored Sky. But he wanted to know why Sky came here and what he wanted. His presence didn’t excite him. In fact, he was annoyed to see him, and right now, he was prepared to tell him to fuck off.
He hadn’t been able to stop thinking about last night and how he had stormed out while asking for Noel to call Rain.
Like... who the hell did he think he was?
Chris followed the path Sky had taken back, ignoring the curious eyes staring at them. The way Sky even sauntered into the place as if he owned it was something that temporarily made Chris curious, but right now wasn’t the time to think about that.
He followed Sky into the changing room, where he had left a few minutes ago. The room was empty except for the two of them.
Even though Chris was mad at Sky, he could not help but take notice of him as usual. Sky wore a simple yellow track suit that was zipped up to his neck, and he had his hands in the pocket of the jacket. His hair was tied, and he wore a pair of plain white sneakers.
Chris observed that the constant thing about this guy was the way he dressed and the jewelry he never skipped. The earrings, nose ring, and rings on his fingers. He was beginning to get tempted to pierce his nose.
Focus, Chris!
He looked ahead with a serious look and approached Sky with his hands inside his pockets. When he stood in front of him, he raised a brow, waiting for him to speak.
He didn’t care what Sky had to say right now. He was just going to put him in his place. He was done with this guy.
Sky looked at him lazily. His eyes went from up to Chris’s face and then down to what he was wearing and back up again before he sighed and spoke softly, "I’m sorry."
That was the last thing Chris had expected from him, so it took him by surprise, and his brows furrowed.
"Last night... I was wrong." Sky spoke in a quiet tone. He looked genuinely sorry. This wasn’t him messing with him right now.
What the hell was wrong with this guy? Could he just stick to being an asshole instead of confusing him like this???
"I figured if you signed up for this and even had to pay a lot to get registered, then you must be confident in it, and I shouldn’t have reacted that way. I shouldn’t have looked down on you."
He was still stunned. He had never felt so speechless in his life.
"I do not think you are an idiot, Chris. That came out of nowhere last night. And I have no right to say I’d control your life here at school. I just... I care. And I want you to be safe. And I realized I did that the wrong way."
"Hold on!" Chris put up his hand to stop Sky from speaking further. He needs to think about this properly. "What is wrong with you? Why are you apologizing to me?"
"Because I overreacted last night?"
"Well, I know that. But... why are you apologizing? To me?"
"Do not tell me you’re used to people treating you badly without apologizing?" Sky asked, frowning.
That wasn’t exactly the case. No one dared treat him badly and it wasn’t just about his family’s status. But no one had ever apologized so sincerely to him before. He also hadn’t expected Sky to do so and also list out all he was apologizing for. That was new for him.
Right now, Chris has even forgotten all he planned to say to Sky. So much for wanting to put him in his place.
Argh! He hated him. He hated Sky Sato. Why did this boy always make it difficult for him to get rid of him?
It was so difficult to stick to hating him.
He realized he couldn’t just keep on thinking and staring at the dude, so he simply shrugged and said, "It’s fine. You didn’t have to come apologize to me here."
"Should I take it that you are no longer mad at me?" Sky asked.
Chris looked at his face. He had a hopeful look in his eyes. Argh! Why did this guy have to make him feel bad about this when he was not at fault?
"I’m sorry too." Chris said it before he realized it.
WHAT THE HELL?! WHY WAS HE APOLOGIZING?!
"For what? You don’t have to apologize to me."
Of course, he didn’t have to apologize to Sky like an idiot. Just... sighs!
"I was the one who messed up." Sky added in a whisper before he did that thing again.
He reached for Chris’s hair and gently brushed it out of his face, tucking it behind his ear.
Chris simply stared at him. Did this guy even know that what he was doing was not normal?
"Be careful. It’s a rough game. Avoid Ash. And watch the lanes. You don’t own a lane."
Chris nodded absentmindedly, not bothering to ask him what he meant by that.
"I know you paid a lot for this. But you don’t have to try so hard to win. I can take care of you if you are broke."
Take care of him if he was broke? Wasn’t that adorable?
Chris let out a laugh and stepped away from him. He didn’t like it when Sky touched his hair like that.
Something else bothered him. And it was the fact that he was lying to Sky whereas the guy was always considering him and willing to take care of him.
Why did he have to make it difficult for him?
