Chapter 51: The decision
Chapter 51: The decision
There was something interesting about life. Everyone is accountable for their decisions. Whatever choice you make now is going to shape your future. Good or bad? It didn’t matter. And it is going to open doors to more choices. Endless choices.
You choose a major to study. You choose a university to study that major. You choose your electives. You meet people in those classes. Probably make friends with some of them. And those people open you up to a whole new world, and the endless cycle continues.
It was the same for Chris. And his life was about to change again because of his sole decision to join the bike race. Whether he was going to regret it in the future or not, was something he could not tell for now.
He had arrived at the race track early. And by track, it meant for bikes and not normal races.
Rachel had come to the dorm this morning to take him to this place so he wouldn’t miss his way.
The place was really nice. At least, it was one thing in this town that really awed him because he didn’t even get to see something like this in Southern Creeks or Northend, where he spent most of his life. It was almost an endless piece of land with a neatly tarred road and long bleachers for those who were here to watch, and there was a net gate separating the race track from the bleachers for safety reasons.
The place only had a few people who looked like staff trying to put things in order, and probably very few others who had arrived early for whatever reason he didn’t care to know.
"I think you’ll need to confirm your attendance over there," Rachel said, pointing at a block at the far end. There were some stop signs and barricades before the building, which restricted people from going that way. There were also some men wearing black uniforms who stood before the barricades. They looked like bouncers.
Well, this was a more serious event than he had expected.
"You are not coming?" He asked her.
"That isn’t possible. I’ll just be here, rooting for you. Be your best!" She cheered for him.
"I’ll try," Chris said with a small smile and grabbed his backpack tightly before heading that way.
When he got to the gate, he took the printed form out of his pocket and showed it to one of the bouncers, who then allowed him to pass through and head towards the building.
The interior of the building was quite beautiful, and everything inside, including the paintings on the wall, was all white. Well, except for the people moving to and fro. But he couldn’t even admire the place much before Emily showed up.
She was wearing red biker leggings and a jacket with a black bodycon crop top inside. Her heels were also black.
"You did come early," Emily said to him with a beautiful smile before she gestured to the right side. "I’ll show you how to go about your registration." She began to go that way, and he quickly followed her.
"You already read the terms, right? There are more forms you need to fill out, and—"
"Forms? Why?" He asked in confusion.
She stopped walking and turned to look at him as she seriously said, "This is a dangerous spot. You might get hurt. So it means there should be terms, right?"
"Just in case I die during a race and my family does not have to sue this establishment?" He asked.
She laughed. "That is a scary way to put it. But do not worry. No one had ever died before. And you are going to win big money." She added with a wink.
He nodded and just quietly followed her, but she continued speaking.
"So what prompted you to sign up? Have you ever done this before?"
"Not exactly."
"Is it for the money?"
"You can say that."
"Why are your answers curt?" She stopped and turned to look at him again.
"That is how I talk."
She just stared at him for a few seconds before she smiled and said, "Ash is one of the bikers. Do not try to compete with him. He is aggressive."
"Isn’t it just a race? It’s not like this is a fight."
"Just stay clear of his lane." She warned him and tapped him on the shoulder once before she pointed at the door beside them, and then she turned and walked away.
Whoever this Ash was, it was beginning to make him curious. Rain had also talked about him. He was their best, and people bet on him whenever he joined.
Well, he would just have to see how good this Ash guy was. For now, he had to be done with this whole thing.
It took about two hours before he was done. In fact, he was exhausted even before the main event started. He had met two other bikers who had to carry out similar acts as him, but none of them were named Ash.
Signing some forms, running some tests, and making sure he was in the right frame to participate before he was offered a brand-new biker outfit. He wore a blue leather jacket and pants with black inners. He had left without his contacts today, so the blue had a striking resemblance to his eyes.
As soon as they finished helping them fix their safety gear, they were asked to wait for a while before going to choose their bikes. And when Chris realized they had been asked to wait because their star of the day hadn’t arrived yet to join them, he almost went nuts. But there was nothing he could do other than wait— something he hated doing.
And it wasn’t long before he arrived. In fact, he didn’t need anyone to tell him that it was the guy. The first thing that gave him away was the crowd outside cheering loudly. Their money bag was here after all.
But when Chris saw him, he thought they were cheering for a lot more than him just being their money bag.
He had heard about Sky nonstop since he came here. Why did no one ever talk about this guy like that?!
In just one second, his brain glitched, and Sky disappeared from his brain to be replaced with this guy.
He admitted it. He was a whore. But he couldn’t help it. He liked pretty boys. He didn’t want to date anyone. He could just admire and lust over them and move on. So he openly stared.
Ash’s outfit was white—his jacket, leggings, innerwear, and even a pair of boots.
His hair was black. It was neither too long nor too short, but it fell back to the back of his neck, just like his. As for his looks and height, Chris would give him 100 per cent. It seemed like Ash was an inch taller than he was. And he was obviously older. Maybe a year or two older.
"I’m sorry for coming late. I missed my alarm." He looked at his watch. "Still an hour left. Whew!" Ash’s voice was deep. It wasn’t what he had expected from that face, which looked quite effeminate. His tone also had a subtle hint of cockiness.
He knew they were waiting for him, and he was the star of the show.
The other bikers have gone to shake hands and bump shoulders with him, but Chris just sits there, staring.
He didn’t know whether he was possessed or if there was just something wrong with this place because, in a matter of a few days, how could he have three people now in his brain? Rain. Sky. Now, Ash.
But he had been able to understand one thing. There were a plethora of pretty people here, and he was going to rule Sky out. From this moment on, he would stop bothering himself about that boy and dwell on whatever this place was offering him, but he would not indulge.
Ash noticed him and stared right back at him. He had honey-brown eyes.
Chris just stared back until he felt a kind of unpleasant vibe he could not exactly describe and turned to the side.
He was almost taken aback when he found a pair of eyes staring pointedly at him.
Sky?
SKY SATO?
What was he doing here?
Sky’s back was against the wall, and he had his hands folded as he stared at him. When did he even get here?
Chris could not even hide his surprise when he saw him, and he stood up. Aside from the fact that Sky was here, how did he get in HERE?
Wasn’t this place restricted?
"What is this? Sato?" Ash turned to look at Sky.
Sky simply spared Ash a glance, and from the look of it, Sky did not like this guy one bit.
At least with others, he usually pretended and acted lovely, but with Ash, he only eyed him before his eyes turned to Chris.
"Let me talk to you for a minute." He said to Chris before he turned to walk out, leaving Chris to follow.
Well damn! Why did he always show up and always ruin his resolutions????
