Chapter 48: Exhausted
Chapter 48: Exhausted
So something crazy happened that late afternoon. When Chris arrived in his room, he heard different voices coming from inside the room. It was enough for him to know that Sky was around.
That made him stop with his hand on the doorknob.
It had been a while since he last saw Sky, at least in the dorm. The last time he was here was on Monday, when Sky suddenly showed up because he wanted to ’make Chris happy’. They had messed around, and when he thought they were going to have a nice time together—eat, see a movie, and, of course, talk about Rain, which he had not been interested in doing—he left the bathroom and returned to the room to find Sky already sleeping. Much to his disappointment. Sky lay in a half-fetal position while hugging his pillow, a sight that almost made Chris laugh, seeing how vulnerable and peaceful he was while asleep.
Chris properly covered him with a blanket before he went to eat the food that tasted even nicer than it smelled. He was glad his pride hadn’t made him skip it. After dinner, he prepared for bed and turned off the lights, but he found himself staring at Sky’s sleeping silhouette until Sky turned the other way in his sleep.
By the time he woke up the next morning, he was gone and only left a note on Chris’s desk that said, "You looked pretty in your sleep."
A stupid smile appeared on his face, and he shook his head to clear it. He was not going to let him win again. He reminded himself that he was not the type to let silly words and actions get to him, and he was not going to allow that now just because he had the hots for the guy.
But after their interaction the previous day, he began to look forward to interactions between them. However, Sky did not return to the dorm again. On Tuesday night, he didn’t show up. On Wednesday, he also didn’t. There were no texts or calls from him either. This made him a little concerned, but he couldn’t bring himself to call him just in case Sky was actually fine.
He hadn’t texted Rain since the last time they met and didn’t want to just text her and ask her about her brother, so he ruled that out.
But on Thursday, he crossed paths with Sky. The sight of him conversing with people as he walked by made Chris both relieved and pissed. Didn’t basic manners teach this boy to always let people know if he was not going to be returning for a while?
He had thought Sky didn’t see him, but just before he walked by, Sky looked in his direction and gave him a wink before he focused on what the boy beside him was saying.
Well, screw him.
Since he was fine, he just had to enjoy his room by himself. Besides, the fact that he rarely saw him made his thoughts a bit clearer, and he was honestly thankful for that.
But once again, this boy was bent on frustrating him because he had returned. On Friday. And today, Chris wasn’t exactly in the best mood since his parents had shown up unexpectedly and he had also been called into the Dean’s office.
The Dean was a typical bootlicker who was trying to make him ’comfortable’. He had even offered Chris one of the executive houses in the professor’s complex. It had taken a great deal to convince the man that he didn’t want anything, and he told him to keep his identity a secret. He hoped that the man would do just that.
Back to the present. When he opened the door, it was just like the first time he found a crowd inside his room. He wouldn’t exactly use the word crowded since it was just Sky and his three friends, but seeing four people at once inside the small room made it look overly crowded.
While Noel and Henry sat on Sky’s bed, Sky sat on his. As for Collins, he was sitting on Sky’s reading chair and had a textbook in his hand. The fact that Sky was on his bed didn’t bother him as much as Noel, who was shirtless. Again, how do they do it when the weather is this cold?
All eyes turned to him, and he also stared at all of them before he quietly entered and closed the door behind him.
"He’s finally here! We’ve been waiting for you." Henry said excitedly, causing Chris to raise a curious eyebrow as he wondered why they were waiting for him. By chance... they haven’t found out, have they?
He had also noticed several people staring unusually at him on his way to the dorm, but he hadn’t exactly taken it seriously.
"What is it?" He asked them, trying not to reveal any emotion.
"Those were Rachel’s parents, weren’t they? Seriously! A helicopter!" Noel said in awe.
Wasn’t this the same guy who had been treating him like he was invincible for the past few days? Chris stared at him. At least they hadn’t found anything about him, and it seemed their interest in him was based on the fact that he was Rachel’s friend.
Seeing how the others were all staring at him, he realized they were waiting for him to say something, and he wasn’t exactly sure what to say.
Thankfully, he was able to avert answering that question when Sky spoke up while staring intensely at him.
"Why do you look so exhausted? Come sit here." He tapped the space beside him on the bed. Chris’s bed, by the way!
Chris was indeed exhausted. He had been looking forward to resting his back on his bed, and this interruption was something he didn’t appreciate.
He dropped his bag at the foot of the bed and sat down beside Sky, taking off his shoes.
But then he noticed all eyes were still on him. He realized he wouldn’t be able to escape this without indulging them in all he knew about Rachel.
