Chapter 46: The August Visitors (1)

"Do not panic..."

"Okay... that’s making me want to panic," Chris said to his mother on the phone. Usually, she called during the evenings since that was when she was usually free, but right now, it was noon and he was in school, so her call made him very worried, wondering if something had happened, and hearing her tell him not to panic didn’t make things better. Also, the background was quite noisy.

"We are at your university!" His mother said it excitedly, surprising him.

"What? How? Who’s ’we’? Is Dad there? Where are you guys?" He asked while his feet increased their pace to leave his faculty. His first reaction was shock, but then he was excited. Even though he had been here for only a few days, he missed his parents.

"We landed in the field behind the University. And before you panic, no, we didn’t do any illegal landing." His mother’s cheery voice said, and Chris could hear his father’s voice in the background asking if Chris was excited.

"Wait a minute... What do you mean by ’landed’?" Chris’s steps slowed. He hoped it wasn’t what he was thinking—

"GUYS! I’M NOT KIDDING. THERE IS A HELICOPTER OUTSIDE!" Someone yelled from downstairs, stunning Chris.

His parents didn’t just do that!

It seemed like a chopper landing on their university premises was something that barely happened because many people followed to see what it was all about.

Chris stared wide-eyed before he heard a voice from his phone again. "Hurry up! We have a business meeting to attend—"

"What the fuck, mum! How could you guys do that?! I told you!" He snapped, but he did so quietly as a lot of students were passing by.

He had told them how simple he wanted his life here to be. He didn’t just work his ass hard to come study here on a scholarship and wear knockoffs, take taxis and tricycles, eat low-grade meals, and look this unattractive just to have his parents show up at his school in a helicopter and ruin it all for him!

"We got you some things, baby. Hurry up!" She yelled into the phone and disconnected it, leaving him annoyed.

What the hell was wrong with them?

More people trooped out of the building to see what was happening outside. This made him even more frustrated. There was no way in hell he was going out to meet them.

As he thought about something to do, he suddenly saw Rachel downstairs, heading outside, and had a bright idea. He leaned on the railings and called out her name, and as soon as she turned, he gestured for her to remain.

His steps were hurried as he tried to meet her downstairs, but he still found it a bit difficult to have a smooth walk when many people were suddenly taking the hallways and stairs. Fortunately, he eventually reached her and placed both hands on her shoulders, panting.

"Are you okay? Why do you look so... intense?" She asked in a concerned tone.

"I need your help." He said it with pleading eyes, still panting from the ’race’ just now.

When Rachel gave him a questioning look, he leaned closer to whisper into her ears, "It’s my parents." Then he drew back and looked at her face.

She looked confused for a moment before her eyes lit up in realization, and she pointed outside, whispering, "For real? The helicopter?"

He nodded. "I cannot go meet them with all this attention. But you... you can."

"What? Me? Why?" She looked horrified at that idea and shook her head immediately.

"Think about it; Everyone already believes you are a real-life princess. This is a legit way to prove it. Help me meet my parents. Introduce yourself and let them know I cannot meet them. I’ll text them now and tell them about you. Whatever they brought for me, they can hand it over to you. But I cannot meet them." He said it with rushed desperation and looked down at his phone when it began to ring with a call from his father.

"I... I can’t." Rachel said it hesitantly. She looked like she wanted to help him, but this was too big to help him with.

"You can—"

"We are talking about your parents. They are—"

"They are my parents." He cut in. "Do not see them as anything more. Do this for me, Rachel, I beg you." He pleaded just as he looked at his phone again and answered the call.

She still hesitated. She was torn between helping him and convincing him to go meet his parents himself, but it was quite obvious he had no intention of meeting them out there.

"I won’t meet you. Give whatever you brought to Rachel. She is my friend." Chris said into the phone.

Rachel nervously watched him as he spoke with his father on the phone.

"What do you mean, why?" Chris asked on the phone. "Why didn’t you tell me about this? You knew I wouldn’t like this. I wouldn’t want this! I love you both and miss you like crazy, but this... just no!" He complained before he looked at Rachel with pleading eyes.

Rachel breathed heavily and held her backpack tightly, deciding to do this for him even though she was very nervous.

Under so many watchful eyes, she approached the chopper, and unlike what she had expected from the big business tycoons, they were really nice. It was just as Chris had told her. They had come here as parents, so they acted in that line.

Her parents were greeting the Dean and two other professors when she arrived, and since Chris didn’t want anything about him exposed, Chris’s parents were smart enough to politely dismiss the others, so it was just Rachel left with them by the side.

And also a plethora of students watching from different angles of the school. After all, this was not a sight they could witness every day.

"He must have been embarrassed, wasn’t he?" The woman asked Rachel.
