Chapter 33: Chris in Delulu Land (2)
For Chris’s ego, it did feel good that despite how much effort he had put into his appearance to look unattractive, he had still been able to get the attention of the two women most guys in the school wanted.
Rain Sato and Emily Calvin, whose father was a big shot here.
"Trying to sound humble, eh?" Rachel teased.
He turned to look at her again, sighing, "Geez. Let me be, Rachel! Those aren’t my problems right now. I just want to study."
She snorted. "Others may think you are usually this studious. As if you are not Christopher Owen." She mocked.
"Well, I intend to be very very studious." He replied.
"So what are you going to do about Rain? Are you going to ditch her?"
He had been thinking about what to do about her invitation. He was torn. He wanted to get to know her, but he also wanted to stay away from her.
The pair of twins were troubling him far more than he wished for.
"I guess I can just go." He said it with a shrug. "Maybe you can come along with me. I don’t think watching girls throw flips is that fun, so having your company with me wouldn’t be a bad idea."
"Flips?" Rachel asked, looking confused.
"Yes. Isn’t she a cheerleader? The venue she texted was the basketball court. You should know—"
Rachel laughed, cutting him off. "She is the captain of the girl’s basketball team. Captain!"
"WHAT?" That came as a surprise. "Really? She plays sports?"
"Of course! You think she has that height for nothing?" Rachel shook her head at him.
"I just... I assumed she was a cheerleader." He said in disbelief. Now, Rain was becoming even sexier to him.
"She mentioned it to you yesterday. I guess you were really absentminded; otherwise, it wouldn’t have slipped your mind." She pointed it out.
Maybe he had been absentminded.
And maybe he should just place his attention on Rain instead?
But was that a good idea?
Chris had decided to give his attention to Rain instead and think about her, but it was easier said than done. Because when he was in the shower to freshen up before leaving with Rachel, who was still studying in his room, his thoughts drifted to Sky again.
His mind played back to what had happened this morning, and once again, he felt guilty. Sky didn’t have to leave the room. If anyone should, it should be him. He should also be the one getting a new place. He could afford it, after all. But because Sky was nice and assumed he couldn’t afford it since he was here on a scholarship, he decided to leave instead.
Last night had been one hell of a rollercoaster for Chris. His perverted world was greatly affected when he saw Sky up on stage freely doing his thing. At that moment, he could understand why everyone adored Sky. What was there not to adore?
He travelled back to that night—the loud cheers, the music blasting out of the speakers, the strong smell of beer everywhere, and the disco light that set the mood in the pub.
If he had enough cash on him, he would have joined the people throwing money on the stage. He would have spent his last dime.
He thought that moment was going to end when the wonder on the stage came to a stop, and when Sky tried to adorably run away from the stage, Rain stopped him.
"No. No. No." She said it as though scolding her brother.
"A lot of people paid too much for you to deny them this beauty for the rest of the night, don’t you think so?"
While Sky looked like he wanted to shoot out lasers from his eyes to burn his sister, the crowd excitedly yelled "YES!" to that suggestion.
"Come on, go take your seat and enjoy the party. We all need to keep seeing that pretty face." Rain taunted him. She was trying really hard not to laugh.
"I hate you, witch!" Sky said to Rain, and unfortunately for him, the microphone picked up the sound, causing the crowd to roar in laughter while Sky just continued to look embarrassed with his cheeks flushing red.
"I should be the first to pick up that beauty!" Henry said and quickly stood up, hurrying to the stage to take Sky by the hand and lead him to their seat.
Chris took note of Sky’s behaviour, noting he got easily embarrassed. How can someone who got embarrassed quickly be a complete narcissist whenever they are together? He wondered as he kept looking at him.
Sky took Henry’s hand and followed him to their seat while the crowd grew wild as a proud Henry waved at all of them with a grin plastered on his face.
It felt surreal to Chris when Sky sat down beside him when he returned with Henry.
It felt like the star that he had been looking up at the entire time was just right in front of his eyes.
"You ate it tonight, dude! I’m sure you just made yourself a whole lot of allowance for the rest of the year." Noel said this to Sky with pride, but Sky didn’t look proud at all.
"She is trying to piss me off, and it’s working," Sky muttered when he sat down. He didn’t look pleased with what Rain had played. He looked uncomfortable and kept drawing down his shirt since his thighs were revealed, and many eyes kept staring at them from their tables, young men and ladies alike.
"So... I was just telling them how I have fallen in love with you," Henry said to Sky while grinning.
"Get rid of that love together with this earring," Sky said uninterestedly and tilted his head towards Henry to make him take off the teardrop earring that felt too heavy for his ears. He was used to wearing only studs.
