Chapter 32: Chris in Delulu land (1)
Chris tried to do some school assignments, but he could not concentrate. He kept sighing, and sometimes he just hit the reading table absentmindedly when the poor wood did nothing to him.
Why was he behaving like this?
His behaviour was pissing him off. And as much as he shared everything with Wilson, he could not tell him about what he was facing right now.
In his home, he had a punching bag on which he could vent his frustration. His father had made it available for him and told him it was a gift for him to build his emotions.
But it wasn’t here right now, so he unconsciously took it out on his desk.
Whatever had happened last night, Sky wouldn’t be blamed for it because he had no idea. And none of it was his fault. Let’s just say that Chris had unconsciously been in Delulu land, and the rude awakening from his delusion made him very angry at himself.
When he heard a knock on the door, his head quickly snapped back as his brain wondered if Sky had come back, but only a second later, he mentally slapped himself for thinking something so useless.
Seriously, what was wrong with him?
Besides, Sky wouldn’t knock in his own room! He had also left in anger and wouldn’t just return here and smile and act like everything was fine when Chris had childishly pissed him off and made him want to change rooms.
When the knock sounded again, he eyed the door and unwelcomingly said, "Come in," to whoever was disturbing his peace. He hoped the person had a good reason for it.
When the door opened, a head peeked inside. It was Rachel’s. When her eyes found him, she smiled at him before pushing the door open to enter with her backpack.
She took a long sniff and nodded as she excitedly said, "This is really Sky’s room!"
Chris rolled his eyes at her before he got up and went to sit on his bed.
Rachel continued to excitedly ramble, "I just saw Sato leaving. Boy! He looked like someone had— why do you look like this?" She asked when she looked longer at his face and noticed his mood was odd.
"Don’t tell me you both fought?" She pried and went to sit down beside him on the bed. Although it looked like she took a moment’s pause to consider going to the other bed instead.
"I didn’t think you were coming this soon." He said to her.
"CHRIS!" She yelled out, startling him. "You haven’t even been here for a long time, yet you have fought with your roommate repeatedly!"
"Keep your voice down!" He said it in annoyance. "I didn’t fight with him either!" He snapped at her.
Rachel didn’t say anything immediately. She looked at his face carefully and frowned.
"What is wrong?" She asked, inching closer to him on the bed with a concerned look on her face. "What is happening with you? You know you can always talk to me, right?" Her voice was quiet and soothing. He almost wanted to hug her.
"It’s nothing. I’m fine." He shook his head and got up from the bed, returning to his reading table to study.
She stood up and followed him but stood behind his chair as she said, "There is something. And I do not want to pressure you into telling me, but I want you to know that I will listen to you. We both came here with secrets. And it felt good to have someone I could open up to." She placed a gentle hand on his shoulder and said, "I want to be that kind of person to you too. We should rely on each other."
Chris had never felt so ashamed. He wanted to open up to her. She seemed like a really nice person, but he felt she was going to mock him. Or maybe she will turn on him. Because she was interested in Sky.
"You like Sato, don’t you?"
He swirled around in his seat to look at her in surprise.
"You were giving off the vibe last night. And if I can remember correctly, your turn of mood before you left was all because of him."
"I don’t... I don’t like him." When he said that, he let out a laugh because, yes, he didn’t like Sato.
He had always been the kind of guy who didn’t hesitate to go for what he wanted. Whenever he saw a boy or girl he felt even a little attracted to, he didn’t hesitate to flirt with them before disappearing. But he had decided to put all that behind him when he came here. And the reason he felt like this was because he was frustrated since he knew he could not do anything to or with Sky. All he had to do was suppress these emotions, and all would be well with him. That was it!
"You should take a stroll with me later. There are many places on this campus I’d like to show you." Rachel said, changing the topic. She returned to Chris’s bed and opened her bag as she took out some notes to study.
"Actually... Rain asked me to come watch her practice today." He told her.
"RAIN?! Like... Rain?" She stopped taking out her books and asked in surprise. "Dude, you’re getting all the girls despite trying so hard to look unattractive!"
He let out a laugh. This time, he was truly amused. He was glad she was here to help push those unnecessary thoughts he kept having away.
"That’s not true." He said lightly as he turned to face his books too.
"There is Rain Sato, and then there is Emily Calvin. Let’s not talk about all the girls ogling at you last night and the night before."
"They were staring at Sky, not me."
That was part lie and part correct.
There had been a lot of people ogling Sky. In fact, he could tell that some had stripped him with their eyes. But he also knew those who had been interested in him too.
He just wasn’t interested in any of them.
Ehm... maybe that was kind of a lie.
