Chapter 34: ’Sat’?

Chapter 34: ’Sat’?

"Get rid of that love together with this earring," Sky said uninterestedly, tilting his head towards Henry to make him take off the teardrop earring that felt too heavy for his ears. He was used to wearing only studs, so this one was too heavy for his sensitive ears.

The others, together with Henry, chuckled at the remark, and Henry began to help him take it off while Sky buttoned his shirt up to the collar.

While Sky was busy with the buttons, Henry helped take out the earring, so Sky tilted his head to the other side for Chris to help him take the other off, and at the same time, he spoke to Rachel, "Do you have a wet wipe? Those things ladies use to clean off their make-up?" Sky asked Rachel, who looked stunned at being spoken to.

It didn’t matter that the love of her life was wearing make-up and dressed in an ’unmanly’ way. Sato was still Sato to her. Rachel opened her mouth to speak but shut it up when she could not make any words come out. Why did she always lose her confidence in front of him?

Thankfully, Henry came to her rescue when he spoke up, "Don’t try to clean it off. You are only going to make yourself look worse, especially if you are not going to be using a good toner." Henry advised him.

"Also, people are watching." Noel whispered and added, "Leave it on for a while. You look good, by the way; I’d woo you if you were a girl." Noel chuckled and winked at Sky, who seemed annoyed by everything.

"Where did Collins go, by the way?" Henry asked as he looked around.

That was a good question. Because everyone had been so focused on Sky, no one knew when he left the table or where he had gone.

"You’re sure he doesn’t have a secret partner? He’s been disappearing quite often lately." Noel said, laughing with Henry, who said he doubted Collins would have any with how sensitive he always was.

Sky groaned before he reached for his false lashes and plucked them out, dropping them on the table with a loud sigh. "How do people comfortably wear all of these on one body for so long? It’s so uncomfortable!" He complained before turning to the guy beside him, who hadn’t said a word to him at all.

"Why aren’t you taking off the earring?" He turned to look at Chris, who hadn’t made any effort to help him remove the earring that felt like a massive dangling stone even though it was quite little.

The action brought their faces closer, which made Chris recoil backwards at once, startled by the proximity of their faces.

Sky’s gaze fixed on Chris’s face, and he raised a brow at the action before he asked, "Are you... okay?"

Chris noticed the others around the table were also staring at him. His withdrawal hadn’t been very subtle, so it was easy for others to read meaning into it. However, Chris ignored the question and helped Sky take off the earring before dropping it on the table without looking at him at all. Instead, he drank from his beer and gave his entire attention to his phone, as though it were the most important thing in the world at that moment.

He had never been faced with such strong sexual tension in his entire life as he faced that night sitting beside Sky. He felt hot and bothered, and all he could do was self-consciously rub his neck, hoping the others couldn’t tell what was happening. This was when it first really occurred to him that it would be difficult to live in the same space with Sky without trying to sexualize him every chance he got.

Even though Chris was in his own world, his action caused a little bit of awkwardness in the group since it seemed like he was avoiding Sky because of how he looked and how he was dressed.

Thankfully, a young guy approached their table. Or rather, it was best to say he simply approached Sky since he didn’t bother to look anywhere else but at the guy who made his boring grey eyes twinkle.

"Hey, Sat. That was... nice." He said to Sky, sounding a bit shy.

Chris snorted to himself. Who the hell nicknames someone ’Sat’? But that wasn’t the point. Who was this guy, and why is he calling Sky by a nickname? That made him sit up and pay closer attention to their conversation.

Sky looked pleasantly surprised to see him and turned to face him, saying, "Gary? I didn’t think you’d be here."

Gary smiled at Sky. "I heard you were going to be here and decided to come..."

Chris eyed him. He didn’t like the boy. He was cute, had an average height, and looked really adorable in the green sweater and hood that were covering his head, but for some reason, he was the first pretty boy that Chris didn’t like for any reason. Or maybe he did have a reason. The boy was rude. Simply walking here without acknowledging anyone else. It was enough to hate him.

"It’s been tough getting you to reply to my texts," Gary added timidly.

It was obvious to even a blind and deaf man. This boy was into Sky Sato. Everyone seated at that table could see it clearly, and while the others exchanged knowing looks, Chris’s head could not stop replaying, ’It’s been tough getting you to reply to my texts.’

Sky always responded to Chris’s texts. In fact, Sky always texted him first. The thought made his lips curl up as he took another sip from his glass.

But he had been too quick to rejoice. He had been too quick to feel special. Because the truth was... he was not.

"Letting water continue to run like that should be a legal crime." He heard a voice behind him, breaking him out of his thoughts and bringing him to the present.
