It's Your Turn To Cry and Beg, Dear Uncle -
Chapter 30: She Took What Lila Desire The Most
Chapter 30: She Took What Lila Desire The Most
James furrowed his brows, seemingly in contemplation. He sighed and said, "Rest first. We can talk later."
"It’s hard to sleep under such an intense gaze. Now I’m wide awake and I’m curious about what you want to say," Kyra retorted stubbornly.
But the man still appeared reluctant. Perhaps he realized this was not the right time for such a conversation. The last thing he wanted was to let his emotions take over and pressure someone who was unwell.
Even though Kyra had made a grave mistake, he couldn’t bring himself to add to her pain. Thus, James hesitated to continue, even as Kyra looked at him intently.
Without needing James to spell it out, Kyra could already guess what he wanted to talk about. This only frustrated him further and made him wonder: just how much had she thought this through? Why had she done it?
Unlike Oliver and Killian, who had some understanding of Kyra’s thought process, James was entirely in the dark about her intentions. Even if he knew, he doubted he would fully grasp her reasoning.
Kyra raised an eyebrow. "You’re not going to ask? Fine, I’ll start. How much do you know?"
James pressed his lips together. He turned his gaze toward the window across the room. The night was without any stars. The sky was grim and devoid of emotion. Yet somehow, that darkness felt daunting, pushing him to make a choice: remain silent or start talking.
James looked back at Kyra. His heart pounded. Deep down, he harbored a fear he refused to admit—a fear of her answers.
"Everything," James finally said. His voice was low, tinged with both doubt and displeasure. "I know everything."
"Oh?" Kyra tilted her head slightly.
Seeing Kyra’s unchanging expression, showing not even a hint of guilt, James grew increasingly frustrated. His jaw tightened as he restrained his anger. "Do you think you can do whatever you want and escape the eyes of the law?"
He sighed heavily. "Maybe you think you can hide behind the Synders name, which is why you dared to act that way. But you’ve picked the wrong opponent this time. Lila isn’t from the typical upper-class background. Her family has a military background with significant political influence. All they need is a single piece of evidence, and you could end up in prison."
"And you’re going to help make that happen?" Kyra shot back just as James finished speaking.
Though her tone sounded like a question, her expression was full of mockery while certainty painted her blue eyes. James was taken aback, not expecting Kyra to respond so directly and assume the worst of him. Suddenly, he felt irritated.
Kyra chuckled lightly and asked again, "So, what evidence have you given to your beloved girlfriend?"
James pursed his lips, his expression darkening as his gaze sharpened. "Stop it, Kyra! Why do you have to be sarcastic? That’s not the issue here."
"Then what is?" Kyra’s voice was still weak, but every word was firm. "You just want me to admit that I’m guilty, right? Yes, what I did wasn’t right, but I did it deliberately, and your girlfriend deserved it."
James was stunned. "Deserved it? You’re the one who’s been hurt here!"
"Yes, I miscalculated how dangerous that lake was, but I don’t think I’ve completely lost." Kyra smiled, though it made her look more menacing than kind.
"What do you mean?"
"Maybe she won’t go to prison because you’re protecting her. But she’s lost the one thing she wanted most."
James still didn’t understand. What could be worth injuring herself? The furrows on his face deepened. Kyra laughed softly.
"She’s lost her chance to join the Synders family."
Suddenly, clarity dawned on him. James looked at Kyra with a different expression now. He was stumped to silence. The reality was, Kyra was right. Lila had all the wealth she needed, a respectable background, and radiant beauty. It seemed as though the world had nothing more to offer her, until one day, James entered her life.
From that moment on, all she ever wanted was this man. Someone superior to her in every way, a dangerous figure in the business world yet all the more captivating.
It was as if he were created perfectly to match her. He was a whole new world she’d yet to venture, a goal she’d never had before because she was so high in her own world.
He was the purpose that she desired.
...and Kyra had ruthlessly crushed that dream.
Her goal had never been to physically hurt Lila. Her revenge was based on fairness. Just as Lila had stolen and tarnished her dreams, Kyra had taken the same from her.
"She’s lost the trust of our grandparents and may now face doubt from our aunt and uncle on whether she’ll be a good candidate to represent the Synders family."
Kyra smiled wickedly. "For me, that’s worth it."
James was rendered speechless, his gaze fixed on Kyra. Even as she lay weak, bandaged from head to toe, she didn’t look pitiful at all. On the contrary, she resembled a general who had just won a war. Her wounds were badges of honor.
"So now you know." Her voice was deep and somewhat eerie. "I’m not the good girl you hoped for, and I’m certainly not the obedient niece. I did all of that because of you, but you clearly spit on my efforts."
James felt his heartbeat quicken. He stared intently at Kyra as if afraid she might disappear from his sight.
Kyra sneered. "Hence, I no longer need to be the girl you want."
"So, are you going to get even with me as well?" James felt as though something was stuck in his throat. It was so difficult to ask this question, and his heart ached as the words escaped his lips.
Kyra smiled. "Well, isn’t that for you to decide?"
James fell silent, utterly speechless. It was as if his ability to speak had vanished entirely.
"All I need is a confirmation."
And James knew exactly what Kyra was talking about. In that instance, the image of Kyra in her disheveled state, sweat glistening on her temples and her cheeks blushing so temptingly, consumed his thoughts.
