Chapter 320: Telekinesis Calling
Chapter 320: Chapter 320: Telekinesis Calling
Brain death involves a heartbeat, but the brainstem cells no longer respond to any stimuli and cannot be awakened. Individuals who suffer brain death typically do not survive for long because complications soon arise, leading to heart failure and eventual true death.
However, brain death means there is absolutely no consciousness!
"If there’s a heartbeat, then she’s not dead, and no one can say she is!" Yusuf Zuck broke free from the approaching doctor and harshly wiped the corner of his mouth.
Even if Ember Vance had been taken away by the King of Hell, he would pull her back!
"That’s right, if there’s a heartbeat, she’s not dead. My daughter is not dead!" A middle-aged man emerged from the sickroom, wearing glasses and a mandarin collar suit.
He was Ember Vance’s father, Kennedy Vance, a university professor, a scholar!
"You’re Xiaoyun’s boyfriend? Good, then come with me. Keep calling her. I believe my daughter is strong and will be awakened!" It was clear that this man was stubborn to the extreme, as he took Yusuf by the hand and rushed into the sickroom.
In the sickroom, Ember Vance’s head was wrapped in gauze, her once long hair gone, and she lay still, surrounded by various medical devices. One of the machines showed a flat line, while another displayed wavebands.
There was no brain activity, but there was a heartbeat. This was brain death.
As soon as Yusuf entered the room, he immediately explored Ember’s entire body with his telekinesis.
Her body had knife wounds, and the most severe were gunshot wounds — a bullet had entered through the back of her head, causing brain death.
The bullet had been removed and many nerves repaired, but her brain function had ceased!
"Xiaoyun!" Yusuf’s heart shattered when he saw this scene; he squatted beside Ember Vance, gently taking one of her hands.
"Can you hear me speaking? It’s me, the bad guy has come to see you. Xiaoyun, can you hear that?" Yusuf clutched her pale hand tightly, calling out to her in a soft whisper.
Yet, Ember Vance showed no response, continuing to lie there very quietly.
"Xiaoyun, wait for me. I will definitely wake you up. Just hang on," Yusuf said, wiping away tears and immediately pulling out his phone to call Everest Zuck.
"Little brother, what’s up?" Everest was practicing Tai Chi in the yard that morning.
"My woman, brain dead. Help me find a way to awaken her, and also, tell Wen Shuai to ask his grandfather to come to Beijing." Yusuf spoke very gravely and with utmost seriousness.
Everest on the other end of the phone was shocked.
"Your woman? Which one?" He was somewhat confused, not knowing which of Yusuf’s women it was.
"Ember Vance, the chief of Garden Road police station!" Yusuf shouted.
"Alright, I’ve got it. Which hospital now?"
"Union, inpatient department, twelfth floor!"
"I’ll rush over with Jerome Hart right away. Let’s assess the situation when we get there. Brain death, in conventional medicine, means the brain nerves have disappeared, but in some...well, according to our ancient arts, it’s also called soul loss. The person has a heartbeat but no soul, so naturally, there’s no response. It’s very dangerous; many cases of brain death cannot be awakened. I’ll give it a try!"
"Thank you, big brother." Hearing Everest’s words, Yusuf drew a deep breath. Brain death, also known as soul loss? This was the folk term of the ancient arts. Ancient people didn’t have any medical equipment or terminology for brain death. They noticed that even though the patient had a heartbeat, they couldn’t be roused, so they would say their soul had been lost. Calling back the lost soul was what they did.
Of course, modern people might think this was due to the ignorance of ancient times, but ancient people also had their wisdom. Everything should be looked at from both sides.
"Who are you calling? Is it a doctor?" Kennedy Vance asked urgently.
"One is a Qi Men heir who specializes in external diseases, and the other is a renowned traditional Chinese medicine practitioner from Jiangxi, grandson of David Hart. David will also come over from Jiangxi later!"
"David Hart!" Hearing this name, Ember Vance’s uncle, Ace Vance, took a deep breath.
David Hart was blind, but he was a miraculous doctor. If he weren’t blind, he’d probably be a leading figure at the Central Health care Institute by now!
"Big brother, there might be a glimmer of hope," said Ace, moved. He had a wide array of contacts and knew much, well aware of David Hart’s profound mastery of the Silver Needle Techniques. A single needle could bring the dead back to life!
"Good, good, good, you... you..." Kennedy Vance grasped Yusuf Zuck’s hand; he didn’t know Yusuf’s name yet.
"Uncle, my name is Yusuf Zuck."
"Good, good, good, Yusuf, you are very good, very good." Kennedy Vance was so excited he couldn’t speak properly. Although he didn’t know when his daughter had gotten such a boyfriend, the man who could vomit blood for her was rare in this world, and his daughter hadn’t chosen wrong!
"Uncle, could you all step outside for a moment? Actually, I am also a doctor, and I would like to do a thorough examination of Ember. Is that okay?" Yusuf Zuck had only scanned her briefly with his telekinesis earlier to get an overall picture, so he needed to calm his mind and look over her again to find any clues that could stimulate Ember Vance’s brain cells.
"You are a doctor too?" Everyone in the room was momentarily stunned.
"Hmm, I studied medicine under an old traditional Chinese medicine practitioner for a few years. I’ve also been working as a doctor these past years." Yusuf Zuck didn’t dare to admit that he was a fake doctor, unlicensed, fearing that if he did, the Vance family might disagree, so he could only say he had been working as a doctor, letting everyone assume he was a real one.
"Okay, then we’ll leave it to you, Yusuf Zuck." A middle-aged woman nodded at Yusuf Zuck.
This woman shared a resemblance with Ember Vance, it was clear she was her mother.
"Hmm." Yusuf Zuck nodded firmly, and the people began to leave the room one by one.
Once everyone had left, Yusuf Zuck once again used his telekinesis to probe inside Ember Vance’s head.
What high technology couldn’t achieve, he could. He could cover Ember Vance’s whole head with his telekinesis, and he could see every nerve, every cell inside.
Yusuf Zuck looked over it once more and then a third, fourth, fifth time.
He checked over and over, perhaps a dozen times, but he really didn’t understand medicine. He could only see that many of Ember’s brain nerves were damaged, and there were injuries inside her brain.
"Damn it!" Yusuf cursed, suddenly hating himself for not understanding medicine. If he did, with the Power of Thoughts he possessed, what illness couldn’t he cure?
"Ember, hang in there. I’m a bad guy, I’ll make you wake up." Yusuf Zuck called out deep within his mind with the power of his telekinesis, transmitting the message directly into her mind.
However, as soon as his thought had transmitted, he suddenly noticed the brainwave monitor by the bed flickered for a moment and a ripple appeared.
"Is it working?" Yusuf Zuck was shocked and overjoyed. He continued to probe deep into her mind with his telekinesis, transmitting with mind power.
But... this time there was no response, just that brief flicker before.
"What’s going on, Ember? Don’t scare me. Give me a sign, okay?" Yusuf Zuck continued transmitting, and the brainwave monitor flickered again.
"Ember, you’re conscious, you still have consciousness!" Yusuf Zuck cried with joy, gripping her hand tightly.
