Chapter 158: Chapter 158: Hold Back a Trick
The half-watermelon shaped stone was clear at a glance, not very big to begin with, and then half of it cut away, so by eye measurement, it was evident that there was no green in the remaining half of the rough stone.
However, now Yusuf Zuck is claiming that there’s green inside this half of the watermelon rough?
"Erjun, bring that stone over here," Boss Liu said with interest.
Erjun immediately ran over and picked up the half-watermelon. It wasn’t heavy, only about six or seven jin.
"Put it on the table." Boss Liu gestured for Erjun to place the rough stone on the table, and then both he and Bryce Harper took out flashlights to scrutinize it closely, examining its textures from all angles.
"You’re saying this small piece of rough has green inside?" After a while, the two of them finished inspecting, but both wore faces full of disbelief. The rough stone really did look like a watermelon: uncut, it might have been a sandstream watermelon, perfectly ripe. But once cut open, it was nothing but a barren watermelon seed.
The cut was made down the middle, no green in the center, so how could there be any green elsewhere.
"There should be some, I think, though I can’t guarantee it. I just have this feeling the stone is different," Yusuf Zuck said vaguely.
"Then, what is your belief that it’s different based on?" the two bosses asked.
Yusuf Zuck knew these two bosses would certainly dig deep, so he chuckled and said, "Do the two bosses believe in intuition?"
"Intuition?" Bryce Harper and Eloise Hart were taken aback again. Gambling on stones based on intuition, what a joke.
"Let me explain this way," Yusuf Zuck thought for a moment and then said, "When I’m near certain jade or Jade Artifacts, my body has a special reaction. That’s intuition!"
"I get it now!" Bryce Harper slapped his thigh, exclaiming excitedly, "Boss Liu, do you remember, a few years back there was also such a master? That master said he could feel the Spiritual Energy of jade, and because of that, the rough he gambled had green showing in 90 percent of the cases."
"Right, right, right!" Old Liu nodded vehemently, "There was such a thing. In fact, these past few years there always seems to be people claiming to be prophets or masters, hard to tell if they’re real or fake. Yusuf, you’re saying this stone has green? Cut it, Erjun, start cutting, let’s see how much green there is!"
"Oh, how should I cut it then?" Erjun pointed at the stone and asked.
"Cut slowly, from the edge, little piece by little piece, moving inward. I can’t be sure if there’s anything in there, I just have that feeling!" Yusuf Zuck explained.
"Alright." Erjun lifted the stone and went to the cutting machine in the yard, plugged in the power, and started cutting. Yusuf Zuck noticed that Erjun seemed very skilled, like a veteran stone cutter.
"Every year when we go to the jade market, we take Erjun with us, this kid is good at cutting stones and has the strength too!" Old Liu said with a smile.
"What about the other two pieces? Bring them out too, so that Erjun can cut those as well," Bryce Harper suggested at that point.
"Sure." Yusuf Zuck nodded, got up, and went back to the pile of stones, then pointed at one of the half-gamble pieces. That stone was quite large, about one meter in diameter, with no green showing at the cut.
He walked a few more steps, squinted, and after a moment of contemplation, he pointed at another piece, two meters in diameter, also with no green showing at the cut. And indeed, within that two-meter-diameter stone, there was no green.
That’s right, he did it on purpose, deliberately picking out a stone without green. He kept one eye open.
Erjun noted the two stones, then began cutting the half-watermelon.
He was deft with his hands. When Yusuf Zuck said cut the edges, he would remove the edges one by one.
Old Liu, Old Harper, and Miles O’brien all crowded around, and Old Harper even picked up water, splashing it onto each piece as Erjun cut it.
"No green..." After cutting for a while, and a third of the stone been removed, no green had appeared, so Erjun, the bosses, and everyone else all looked up at Yusuf Zuck!
"How about I cut right down the middle?" Second Army suggested.
"No, keep cutting," Yusuf Zuck shook his head. If he cut it down the middle, it would really be split in two.
Second Army continued cutting, but the next cut was noticeably deeper.
Just after three more cuts, Bryce Harper and Eloise Hart suddenly called for a stop and Bryce Harper poured water over the cutting surface.
A faint purple corner was barely revealed, and although not fully exposed, a light purple hue was visible.
"Holy shit, could it be violet?" Eloise Hart exclaimed loudly.
"Second Army, cut slowly, polish," Bryce Harper also swallowed hard.
Second Army also realized that something green... no, purple was emerging. Damn, purple jadeite!
"Zzzzzz~" Second Army quickly polished, and half an hour later, a duck egg-sized stone, through which purple permeated, lay before everyone’s eyes!
"We got green, we got green, damn it, glass-type violet!" Bryce Harper and Eloise Hart were so excited they seemed to be dancing around, endlessly examining the duck egg-sized Purple Stone.
Meanwhile, Louise Garrett whispered to Yusuf Zuck, "The transparency is remarkable. Violet jade itself is rare, and not much of the good stuff is found, but once you get quality pieces, they dazzle everyone and fetch high prices at auctions."
"How much could this size be worth?" Yusuf Zuck asked in a low voice.
Louise Garrett shook her head, "That’s hard to say. It depends on what the two bosses plan to make from this material. But it shouldn’t be too expensive, as it’s too small. Can’t even make a bracelet out of it, though it could be turned into jade pendants or rings."
"Forget it, we’re both impressed with you," after admiring the violet jade for a while, the two bosses bowed to Yusuf Zuck in unison. Yusuf Zuck had a keen eye indeed, to have found green in such waste material.
"Heh, don’t be impressed, I get thirty percent, as we agreed earlier!" Yusuf Zuck said straightforwardly.
"You won’t miss your thirty percent," Bryce Harper said with a laugh.
"Hurry up, Second Army, keep cutting. After lunch, we’ll have Yusuf Zuck continue picking. Today you must go through all the waste material in the warehouse for me. As long as you can find green, you’ll get thirty percent of everything!"
"No, Boss Zhang, you can’t exploit me like this," Yusuf Zuck quickly waved his hands. He knew that one shouldn’t be too excessive in anything. If he really had a flawless success rate, it may be beneficial and he could make a fortune, but it would also mean exposing his cards to others.
He didn’t want others to know his abilities; it was better to keep them guessing. That’s why he had earlier pointed to a material without green.
He was a man who saw the big picture, appearing to be focused on money, but in reality, he understood moderation.
"Ha ha, no can do, we’re not letting you go today," the two bosses laughed heartily. Having caught Yusuf Zuck, how could they let him go so easily?
"Then let’s talk after lunch, but let’s cut the big one next. I have a feeling there might be green inside this big guy!" Yusuf Zuck actively suggested cutting into the two-meter-wide stone without green.
"How should we cut?" Second Army said eagerly.
"Still from the edge, I don’t really know..." Yusuf Zuck shook his head.
"Let’s follow Yusuf Zuck’s idea, start from the edge and cut inward. Damn, if there’s green inside this huge piece, won’t we make a fortune?" Bryce Harper and Eloise Hart said excitedly.
