Chapter 159: Chapter 159: A Storm is Brewing
As expected, the second stone that was cut open contained no green, just a complete waste, and when Erjun had finished cutting up the last of the fragments, Bryce Harper, Eloise Hart, and even Miles O’Brien frowned and turned their attention to Yusuf Zuck.Yusuf Zuck also furrowed his brows, muttering about the impossibility amidst the pile of broken stones.
To pretend convincingly, he too adopted an air of incredulity.
"Even a horse stumbles, no big deal, let’s move on to the next one," Bryce Harper and Eloise Hart signaled Erjun to continue after a moment.
Though they both had high hopes for Yusuf Zuck’s infallibility, no one had achieved it to date. If Yusuf Zuck did manage it, it would be nothing short of miraculous.
After the third stone was cut open, a large swathe of green was revealed, at least several tens of kilograms, and Bryce Harper and Eloise Hart couldn’t help but smile joyfully upon seeing the green.
Yusuf Zuck had chosen three stones and hit jackpot with two – a big win-rate, especially considering he was selecting from what they had deemed unworthy and unlikely to contain green. Thus, a score of three for two positioned Yusuf Zuck as a master among masters.
Bryce Harper and Eloise Hart encouraged Yusuf Zuck to pick one more, but hungry Yusuf claimed hunger and ran off to the chicken pot to sip some soup.
Both Bryce Harper and Eloise Hart were shrewd, but they couldn’t fathom the musings in Yusuf Zuck’s mind; they suddenly realized they couldn’t see through him at all.
Helpless, they had no choice but to join Yusuf Zuck for a meal.
Four dishes were served: a chicken, chives with chicken eggs, a pot of spare ribs with potatoes, and the fourth dish was fried turnip greens.
The brother-in-law’s culinary skills weren’t bad, maybe it was the magic of the big wok, but Yusuf Zuck found the food particularly delicious.
Of course, since they all drove there, they didn’t drink alcohol.
After a satisfying meal, Yusuf Zuck took a call. It was from Mia Lara Tuff in Hong Kong, who he hadn’t heard from in several days. They playfully bickered on the phone for a while.
Yusuf Zuck then took this opportunity to claim he had other business to attend to that afternoon, so the stone gambling was off the table.
Bryce Harper informed Yusuf Zuck that he would drop by his store tomorrow to sign the official contract, as previously discussed. During the stone gambling fair, all the raw jade materials Yusuf picked out would be split 70-30 in favor of the house, provided that green was found within them.
As for how much the two bosses would specifically invest wasn’t mentioned in the contract.
It could be in the range of millions or even surpass a hundred million, depending on the situation. So, Yusuf Zuck didn’t know exactly how much he would earn.
On the way back, Miles O’Brien told Yusuf Zuck that behind both Bryce Harper and Eloise Hart were big financiers. These financiers, whether part of the establishment or heirs of prominent families, were investing covertly in partnership with them. The pair were merely frontmen handling all sorts of matters.
After all, in this day and age, the wise are keeping a low profile. The matter of invisible shares was something they’d never reveal to others.
Now that things had settled, Yusuf Zuck was relieved. He didn’t care about who the financiers were; he was just focused on earning his thirty percent cut.
Of course, in the half year leading up to the fair, he planned to gather as much capital as possible for one crazy gamble.
The remodeling crew had already started work on the new shop. After dropping off Miles O’Brien at Ruiz Family’s house, Yusuf called Ember Vance to inquire about the process for obtaining a passport or a Hong Kong and Macau travel permit.
After giving it much thought, he decided that if he wanted to quickly build up his funds, he had to take some shortcuts, and gambling was definitely in his plans. Betting on jade was profitable, but what he needed at the moment was cash – the treasure unearthed the other night hadn’t been converted to money yet. Gambling, on the other hand, was one of the fastest ways to accumulate cash.
Ember Vance explained the detailed procedures for obtaining the documents. Regardless, Yusuf Zuck had to return to the place where his ID was registered to get his passport processed.
There was still time, but he’d have to wait until the old man was discharged from the hospital. He’d have to go back with the old man and get a passport for him as well.
...
Meanwhile, the news that six people were burned to death in a fire in a neighborhood near the film academy also made the headlines, with official information stating that the six victims were murdered, and an investigation was underway.
Yusuf Zuck heard about this news on the car radio. However, he just smiled. All the evidence and clues had been destroyed by Fleur Carson, so now the authorities probably hadn’t even determined the identities of these people.
In Zhonghai, Tyler Nash had been discharged from the hospital and was recuperating at home. He had tried to contact the man in the duckbill cap several times over the past few days, but all he got was an out-of-service message. The man in the duckbill cap seemed to have vanished into thin air.
It wasn’t until a news report appeared online about six people being burned to death in a neighborhood in the capital that Tyler Nash was scared out of his wits.
He knew that the man in the duckbill cap was part of a six-person team and that the team’s next target was Yusuf Zuck’s sister, Sara Zuck, who was at the film academy.
The news was reporting a case near the film academy, and it was five men and one woman!
"Cruel, you’re so cruel!" Tyler Nash shuddered uncontrollably, never having imagined that the damn driver could be so ruthless as to dare to kill six people, especially in the capital!
"Can he get away with it?" Tyler Nash calmed down and started to ponder. For such a murder case, the police must solve it, right? Otherwise, it would be a huge joke.
"Should I add fuel to the fire, become an informant once?" The calmer Tyler Nash quickly found a point of entry. He could be a law-abiding citizen, providing some clues.
"Yes, provide clues!" After much deliberation, Tyler Nash’s eyes grew brighter. He believed that as soon as he provided the clues, the capital’s police would quickly solve the case, and he’d have done his duty as a good citizen.
"Mm, an anonymous tip." Tyler Nash called the deputy head of security at the company and instructed him to buy a prepaid SIM card, the unregistered kind, and to bring it to his villa afterward.
The efficiency of the deputy head of security was very high, and in just over an hour, he personally drove over to deliver the SIM card.
Once the security manager left, an impatient Tyler Nash immediately took out his phone, switched to the new card, and dialed the area code for the capital, followed by the emergency center number.
Listening to the sweet voice of the operator on the line, Tyler Nash felt an inexplicable restlessness. Unfortunately, though he was burning with desire, he was powerless; his mind was full of thoughts of women, but he could do nothing about it.
"The six people who died at the film academy were taken out by a guy named Yusuf Zuck, the driver for the president of the Ferreni Hotel."
"Click." Without waiting for the operator to respond, he hung up the call and snapped the SIM card in half!
At the same time, he suddenly realized that doing bad things felt exhilarating. He would continue to follow the news in the capital; he wanted to see how Yusuf Zuck would die.
It had to be acknowledged that the capital’s police force was very efficient, especially when it came to the case of the six deaths—they took it very seriously.
The call center relayed the tip to the task force, which happened to include an old acquaintance of Yusuf Zuck, the deputy captain of the district precinct, James Hart.
Upon receiving this information, James Hart immediately recalled Yusuf Zuck’s face and recounted his interactions and experiences with Yusuf Zuck to everyone present.
The task force took the case very seriously, conducting a meeting to analyze the situation, and concluded that it was indeed likely that the six individuals were related to Yusuf Zuck’s sister, who was studying at Beiyin.
With the attitude of not letting any suspect slip through the net, James Hart called Ember Vance because she had Yusuf Zuck’s phone number, and most importantly, Yusuf Zuck’s case was under Ember Vance’s follow-up. Where Yusuf Zuck lived and what job he was currently holding was unknown to others, but Ember Vance, who had previously been in charge of the follow-up, should have some idea.
Of course, James Hart couldn’t imagine that the once confrontational Ember Vance had already been captivated by Yusuf Zuck.
