Chapter 157: Choosing Stones in the Grand Warehouse
Chapter 157: Chapter 157: Choosing Stones in the Grand Warehouse
To be honest, Otis Quinn feared Yusuf Zuck, because he couldn’t outdo him in cruelty or in a fight, and he felt that Zuck had a kind of... a wildness that people like him could not tame.
When the white Land Rover left the hospital parking lot, Otis Quinn and his girl only then exited the hospital’s main doors and climbed into a red Honda Fit.
The Honda Fit, worth less than 100,000, was something Otis Quinn had bought for his girl.
"Brother Quinn, can we please not have anything to do with him anymore? I beg you, I’m scared. He frightens me more than Brother Dao!" Otis Quinn’s girl pleaded while driving.
Otis Quinn’s face darkened slightly as he nodded and said softly, "I have it under control. Drive your car and take me to the company."
Meanwhile, as Yasuf Zuck drove, he also called Ember Vance. She had previously claimed she wanted to secretly investigate Brother Dao, and at that time, he hadn’t said anything. Now, he thought it was time for her to speed things up. After all, knowing both your enemies and yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles. By knowing Brother Dao’s background, he would be able to gauge how to arm-wrestle with Brother Dao in the future.
Little Miss Vance didn’t say much over the phone, agreeing a hundred times over. During this period, anyone who crossed Zuck was crossing her, and she planned to have a date with Zuck over the weekend. So, she assured him that she would act quickly.
Zuck also told her to be careful and to pay attention to safety.
By eight in the morning, Zuck had entered the Ruiz Family Garden, and after wandering around a bit, he picked up a few antiques from the ground stalls. When Zuck hunted for treasures, he used telekinesis, focusing on items with an old aura and good materials before making a move, and he didn’t want the expensive ones.
At Bryce Harper’s place, the shopkeeper, Eloise Hart, had already arrived ahead of time, and there were no outsiders present.
Previously, Harper had claimed there were other people interested, but it seemed he and Eloise Hart had changed their minds.
The shopkeeper was known as Eloise Hart, which was homophonic with the name of a female actress.
The three of them drank tea in the shop, and after calling Miles O’Brien, they headed straight out of the Ruiz Family Garden.
The so-called large warehouse was actually in Changping, beyond the Sixth Ring Road, not within the city center, but it resembled a large Nash family courtyard. The yard had a market-like shed, with overhead shade, rain-proof coverings.
The warehouse was the joint property of Eloise Hart and Bryce Harper; the entire piece of land belonged to the two of them.
Although it was beyond the Sixth Ring Road, and though far from the city center, when Zuck saw the large yard, he couldn’t help but click his tongue in amazement. To have such a large courtyard in the Earth Realm of Beijing, those two shopkeepers were truly wealthy landlords.
A father and son team were responsible for guarding the courtyard, and they also seemed to be distant relatives of Eloise Hart. The younger one called Hart "Uncle Three," while Hart addressed the elder as "Brother-in-law Three."
Aside from that, there was nothing else in the yard except for various large stones piled in the corner. There were ones with green skins, some with moss, and others that were cut so badly that they lost their shape. Zuck took a quick glance and estimated there to be several hundred stones, the larger ones weighing several tons and even the small ones being about the size of a basketball.
"This is the stock Eloise Hart and I have accumulated over the years. I can tell you for certain that the vast majority of these stones are scraps, but among them, there are a few that conceal green—about seven or eight pieces!" Bryce Harper said to Zuck with a smile, "Since today’s visit is an assessment, if you can find three good pieces, we can sign a contract for our previous agreement."
"Oh, let me have a look." Zuck nodded and said with a smile.
"Alright, Miles O’Brien will follow you, Zuck, to check out the stones. Eloise Hart and I will stay in the yard to drink tea. Oh, and Brother-in-law Three, we won’t be leaving at noon. Catch a chicken to slaughter, set up a large pot to stew—don’t use gas or electricity, just use wood fire for that aromatic flavor!"
"Sure thing, four dishes for lunch." The courtyard keeper, Brother-in-law Three, raised chickens, and the yard was big enough that he even kept a few dogs and a pig.
"So many scraps, how much money is lost here?" Zuck walked around the yard with Miles O’Brien, as the young man named Erjun followed, seemingly ready to lend a hand.
Zuck couldn’t help but sigh at the time, contemplating the grand gamble that was stone gambling.
"Overall, more wins than losses, I guess. Don’t be fooled by the number of scraps; as long as a few turn up with green, and the quality is good, profits will be made. These leftovers are marginal scraps accumulated over the years, and some do contain green, but those parts have already been cut away."
"Yeah, tell me, what does it mean when it ’turns green’?" Zuck did not meticulously inspect each rock—actually, after making one round, he already had an idea in his mind. Harper had said there were at least seven or eight green-tinged pieces in the courtyard, but Zuck spotted more than twenty, with some even piled up deeply at the very back.
Miles O’Brien thought for a moment and said, "From the outside, these rocks all look similar, and we can’t see whether there’s any green in them. In some of the raw materials, there is more green which can be seen just by scraping off a layer, but in some large rocks, there may only be a fist-sized patch of green right in the center, so it’s not visible to the naked eye, nor to instruments, even with experience."
"The so-called ’eye gambling’ is when you observe the stone’s texture, pattern, color, and so on, and everything seems to suggest there’s a lot of green inside. But in reality, when you cut the stone open, there’s only a thin layer of green on the surface, which is why it’s called gambling."
"I saw some photos online where I saw people using a kind of flashlight on the stones, and then there was green. What’s that about?" Yusuf Zuck asked curiously.
"Spotlight flashlights, there are many types, but generally, these flashlights can only reveal the surface, to gamble and win on a stone, I think it mainly relies on experience. Those who deal with raw materials all year round are very accurate," Miles O’Brien explained.
"Hmm." Yusuf Zuck nodded and then laughed, "You’re saying that these two big bosses are asking me to pick out three green-tinged stones from a few hundred, isn’t this a bit challenging?"
Miles O’Brien nodded and said quietly, "It is indeed difficult. However, it’s also the most important condition for working with them. If you can’t manage to gamble successfully here, they won’t take you on for more games!"
"But coming here, they had a lot of confidence in you; after all, the pieces of jade you picked out before are genuinely valuable. That’s undeniable!"
"Ha, they really think highly of me. Then I will have a look. Could you prepare that kind of spotlight flashlight for me?" Yusuf Zuck did not commit to an answer; in truth, he also wanted to partner with the two big bosses. After all, without investing a single penny, there was the potential to earn hundreds of millions, so it was an extremely profitable good opportunity that he naturally wouldn’t refuse.
"It’s already prepared," Miles O’Brien said as she took out a flashlight from her bag and handed it to Yusuf Zuck.
Yusuf Zuck smiled, knowing that Miles O’Brien had prepared everything for him in advance.
He didn’t go to the pile with entirely raw materials for stone gambling but chose to head over to the half-gambled stones instead. The so-called half-gamble referred to stones that had been cut in half or had a large corner sliced off to reveal there was no green.
In the yard, Bryce Harper and Eloise Hart were sipping tea and watching Yusuf Zuck’s actions, genuinely curious to see how he would transform waste into treasure.
Yusuf Zuck pretended to casually stroll around, stopping now and then, continuously tapping the raw materials with his hand, shining the flashlight on them, and even lifting up the smaller ones to weigh them in his hand.
After looking around for a long time, he hadn’t seemed to find a single stone, and at the same time, the delicious aroma wafting around entered his nostrils—Louise Garrett’s stewed chicken smelled truly delicious.
"That smells so good!" Yusuf Zuck put away the flashlight and walked to the center of the yard with a big grin, and sat down between the two bosses.
"How’s it going? Did you find anything? There really are two stones with green in that pile of half-gambled materials," said Bryce Harper.
"Should be close enough, but I have a small request," Yusuf Zuck said as he picked up a cup of tea and took a drink.
"What request?" Bryce Harper and Boss Liu asked curiously.
Yusuf Zuck thought for a moment, "If I pick out a raw material that you’ve marked as having green, I’ll say nothing, but if I select one that you consider waste, and if it turns out to have green after cutting, I want thirty percent. How’s that?"
"You’re trying to make the most of a bad situation!" Bryce Harper laughed heartily.
"Sure, no problem. It’s originally waste, so if you can find green in the waste, we also profit. Why not give you thirty percent?"
"Not bad, not bad. If the waste you pick turns out to have green, then we’ll give you thirty percent."
"Alright, it’s a deal. So, I’ll pick the first piece of material now. The watermelon rind over there that’s been cut in half, the one with the broken green bits inside, is this one that you’ve marked as having green?" Yusuf Zuck pointed to a stone about the size of a watermelon that had been cut in half, but all that was exposed were green skins and thin layers of broken green bits. This was pure waste.
"That one? It’s waste, clear as day," Bryce Harper and Eloise Hart stated incredulously.
"You say it’s waste, right? Well, if I cut out a treasure from it, I get my thirty percent!" Yusuf Zuck was inwardly overjoyed because with his telekinesis, he could see that inside the large piece of watermelon waste was purple—not green but a cluster of extremely dazzling purple. Although it wasn’t as big as a fist, it looked incredibly beautiful.
