Chapter 525 - 525 521 Old Master Ye Part 1

525: Chapter 521: Old Master Ye (Part 1) 525: Chapter 521: Old Master Ye (Part 1) Ye Fan didn’t need to change clothes, but he couldn’t just head downstairs early either; he had to wait for Li Zhaojun to finish changing so they could go down together.

Since it was his own room, Ye Fan was incredibly relaxed, so he pulled out a book and casually started flipping through it.

It took about three or four minutes for Li Zhaojun to finish changing.

Still, they weren’t quite ready to head out; she had to do her hair and, after washing her face, reapply the light makeup that had completely come off.

Since the room belonged to Ye Fan, naturally there wasn’t a vanity mirror, so Li Zhaojun had to enter the bathroom to redo her makeup.

All in all, it took a total of half an hour before Ye Fan and Li Zhaojun were finally ready to leave their room and head downstairs.

Qiao Feixuan hadn’t left the villa; she was sitting in the living room on the first floor, watching TV and waiting for Ye Fan and Li Zhaojun.

As soon as she saw Ye Fan and Li Zhaojun come down, she immediately turned off the TV, stood up with a laugh, and said, “You must be hungry, right?

I’ve already had Wu Ma prepare some food.

Have a little snack to fill your stomachs, and after we pay respects to the patriarch, we can come back and call it dinner.”

“Got it, Mom,” Ye Fan replied and headed toward the dining room.

Li Zhaojun said, “You should eat something too.”

Qiao Feixuan was about to say she wasn’t hungry, but as the words reached her lips, she playfully said instead, “Alright then, I’ll join you for a bit.”

Li Zhaojun smiled and offered her arm to support Qiao Feixuan, who accepted it with great pleasure.

The food was delicate, light, and nutritious, perfect for someone who had just been traveling and needed to replenish their energy.

As they sat down at the rosewood dining table, Qiao Feixuan, with a teasing tone, said, “Ah, a daughter-in-law is even more filial than a son.”

Ye Fan felt embarrassed—it was just a casual invitation to eat, right?

However, he quickly tried to remedy the situation with an apologetic smile, saying, “Mom, let me serve you some porridge.”

Without waiting for Qiao Feixuan’s consent, he quickly took the bowl that Li Zhaojun had filled and diligently placed it on the table in front of Qiao Feixuan.

“Mom, here’s your porridge,” Ye Fan said with an apologetic smile.

Qiao Feixuan’s beautiful eyes crinkled with delight, “Hehe, that’s more like it.”

While they ate the porridge and chatted, they had to keep an eye on the time because they still needed to pay a visit to the patriarch, Ye Guohua, which meant they had to wrap things up in fifteen minutes.

With their stomachs filled, Ye Fan was finally ready to drive Li Zhaojun to pay their respects to the patriarch.

Although the villa where Qiao Feixuan lived was luxurious and worth tens to hundreds of millions, it was just a regular property that money could buy.

However, the place where the patriarch, Ye Guohua, lived was different.

The most obvious difference was that before they even reached the main gate of the compound in their car, several dark barrels of machine guns were pointed right at them.

Under the watchful eyes of several stern guards, Ye Fan pulled the car up to the entrance and then motioned for Li Zhaojun to get out and go through the security check.

As Ye Guohua’s direct grandson, Ye Fan was a familiar face and didn’t need to be frisked, but Li Zhaojun, being a new face, still had to go through a body search, despite Ye Fan having previously declared that their relationship was that of husband and wife.

Of course, the body search on Li Zhaojun was conducted by a female guard.

Besides Li Zhaojun’s body search, Ye Fan’s car also had to be inspected.

Ye Fan was used to it, and Li Zhaojun had also gotten used to it before, so it wasn’t a big deal to either of them.

Two or three minutes later, Ye Fan drove into the courtyard again.

A few minutes after that, Ye Fan parked the car in front of what appeared to be an ordinary quadrangle residence, found a parking spot, and then got out of the car with Li Zhaojun, walking towards the gate.

The capital of Huaxia, known as the Forty-nine City, is the heart of the nation, busy and bustling everywhere, overflowing with people.

Yet, in stark contrast, this place was extremely quiet, not a whisper of noise, as if stepping into another world altogether.

Li Zhaojun couldn’t help but size up the residence of the old Ye family patriarch, noting the green tiles and gray bricks, the pair of exquisitely carved stone lions in front of the gates, and the grapevines that draped over the moderate wall, their leaves shed due to the deep autumn.

Ye Fan approached the vermillion gate and respectfully knocked on the copper ring, then paused, patiently waiting for someone inside to open the door.

Li Zhaojun stood quietly beside Ye Fan.

About two minutes later, footsteps could be heard from inside, followed by the sound of unbolting a wooden latch, then the “squeak” of a drawn-out noise as the vermillion door was opened, revealing an elder in his fifties or sixties.

“Uncle Qin,” Ye Fan greeted the elder with a smile.

The elder, though in his sixties, was actually of the same generation as Ye Fan’s uncles and aunts, being the son of the senior personal guard who had once served Ye Fan’s grandfather.

The senior personal guard had followed the old Ye patriarch from the very beginning, taking bullets and blades for him, risking his life to protect Ye Guohua during retreats amid enemy encirclements, and had earned much honor and trust.

He was among those whom the old patriarch trusted most.

Unfortunately, the senior personal guard didn’t live as long as the old Ye patriarch, passing away in his seventies.

His duties were then taken up by his son, who had served the old Ye patriarch from a young age, the very Uncle Qin standing before them now.

Uncle Qin was also highly trusted by the old patriarch, and as someone who had a say in the household, even Ye Guohua, Ye Fan’s father, who held a high position himself, had to respectfully address him as “Brother Qin”.

Li Zhaojun followed suit, saying, “Hello, Uncle Qin.”

She wasn’t too familiar with the people around the old Ye patriarch, but she simply repeated whatever Ye Fan said, which couldn’t be wrong.

Seeing that it was Ye Fan, Uncle Qin replied with a smile, “Ah, it looks like young master Fan has returned.”

Then, turning his gaze to Li Zhaojun, he responded to her as well, “Fan’s wife, hello to you too.”

“It’s windy outside, please come in quickly,” he said as he opened the door wider, inviting Ye Fan and Li Zhaojun inside.

Ye Fan and Li Zhaojun entered, Uncle Qin closed the vermillion door behind them, and then led them to see the old Ye patriarch.

“Uncle Qin, how has the patriarch been doing lately?” Ye Fan asked softly.

Uncle Qin answered with a soft chuckle, “Quite well.

The old man has been in good spirits these past few days.

He took a short nap for half an hour and just woke up a little while ago; he’s quite alert now.”

In just a few words, Uncle Qin relayed extensive details about the old man’s long-term condition, recent situation, and current status.

With this information, Ye Fan was completely prepared and wouldn’t risk upsetting the old patriarch.

The Ye family was large, with eight legitimate descendants like Ye Fan alone, plus more than a dozen children borne by daughters married off from the family.

Adding in the side branches, the Ye family was extensive, totaling over a hundred members.

Therefore, Uncle Qin, as someone who had influence around the old patriarch, wouldn’t disclose the old man’s condition to just anyone.

Even to legitimate descendants like Ye Fan, not everything was necessarily revealed.

Ye Fan smiled, acknowledging tacitly, “Uncle Qin, you take excellent care of the old man; it must be hard work.”

“Hehe, it’s all part of the job, it’s not hard,” Uncle Qin said with a smile.

Then, the two stopped talking and focused on their path.
