Invincible Young Master in the City -
Chapter 526 - 526 522 Old Master Ye Part 2
526: Chapter 522 Old Master Ye (Part 2) 526: Chapter 522 Old Master Ye (Part 2) Under the guidance of Qin Po, Ye Fan and Li Zhaojun entered a simple yet elegant living room.
The décor was retro, full of charm.
Unlike Li’s father, who came from humble beginnings as a cowherd, the Ye family had been moderately wealthy before Ye’s grandfather went through hardships.
Ye’s grandfather himself had also been a university student at the time.
Therefore, in terms of lifestyle and manner of conduct, Ye’s grandfather was very different from Li’s grandfather, most notably in that Ye’s grandfather was strict with rules and ran a tight ship.
In the Ye household, Ye’s grandfather’s authority was immense, his word was the law, and no one dared to defy him.
When Ye Fan and Li Zhaojun entered the living room, Ye’s grandfather was wearing reading glasses, deeply engrossed in reading a thread-bound edition of “Comprehensive Reflections to Aid in Governance.”
After entering the living room, Ye Fan did not immediately call out “Grandfather” but stood quietly a few meters away from Ye’s grandfather.
Then, Qin Po stepped forward and quietly reported to Ye’s grandfather’s ear, “Leader, Ye Guohua’s son Ye Fan has brought his wife to pay respects to you.”
This was how Qin Po reported the visitors to Ye’s grandfather, making sure to clarify their relationships.
Ye’s grandfather’s health was better than Li’s grandfather’s, but his memory might have degraded a bit due to old age.
There were many descendants in the Ye family, and sometimes Ye’s grandfather might not remember them all.
“Mm,” Ye’s grandfather responded briefly, without looking up, as he continued reading.
Qin Po did not say anything further; he quietly stepped back, whispered something to Ye Fan, and then left the living room.
Ye Fan and Li Zhaojun stood quietly in place for about five or six minutes.
After what seemed like Ye’s grandfather had finished reading a chapter, he finally stopped reading, looked up, and saw Ye Fan and Li Zhaojun.
“Grandfather,” Ye Fan gently tugged at Li Zhaojun’s sleeve, and then the two of them stepped forward and respectfully addressed him.
Ye’s grandfather took off his reading glasses, leisurely picked up a cup of tea, and looked at Ye Fan and Li Zhaojun.
He slowly took a sip of the tea and then placed it back on the table.
“Xiaofan, you’ve returned,” Ye’s grandfather said.
“Yes,” Ye Fan responded.
Ye’s grandfather said, “I remember you registered for marriage mid-year and then took a leave of absence for half a year.”
“Yes, during the leave, apart from having to personally attend to emergency work and leaving Hua Hai City, I spent the rest of the time Hua Hai City,” Ye Fan reported his whereabouts over the past six months to Ye’s grandfather.
Ye’s grandfather nodded slightly, then asked, “During your six-month leave, did you do any reading or studying?”
“I did read some,” Ye Fan said.
He had actually not read any books while in Hua Hai, but since the question was asked, he had to claim he did.
Ye’s grandfather, clearly not easily deceived, asked, “What books did you read?
Tell me about them.”
“Mainly history books and military works: ‘Records of the Grand Historian,’ ‘Comprehensive Reflections to Aid in Governance,’ ‘Ming History,’ Clausewitz’s ‘On War,’ and ‘The Art of War by Sun Tzu.’ I also studied ‘The Selected Works of the Grand Ancestor.’ However, ‘The Selected Works of the Grand Ancestor’ being profound, I only read the first two volumes.
I also browsed web pages to consider and analyze current events and their backgrounds,” Ye Fan spoke earnestly.
In the Ye family, Ye’s grandfather commanded utmost respect.
Even his own sons did not dare to act freely in front of him, let alone grandchildren.
Some third-generation descendants of the Ye family would even stammer in his presence.
Yet, Ye Fan was bold and straightforward.
Of course, he was not making things up—he had genuinely read the books he mentioned.
Ye’s grandfather gave a slight nod and asked, “What are your thoughts on ‘Comprehensive Reflections to Aid in Governance’ and ‘The Selected Works of the Grand Ancestor’?”
“‘Comprehensive Reflections to Aid in Governance’ is a book for emperors, while ‘The Selected Works of the Grand Ancestor’ is a guide for rebellion,” Ye Fan said.
“‘Comprehensive Reflections to Aid in Governance’ focuses on power tactics and managing subordinates, while ‘The Selected Works of the Grand Ancestor’ discusses strategies, analyzes fundamentals, and provides guidance for real battles.”
“What’s your opinion on Chao Cuo’s reduction of frontier defenses?” Ye’s grandfather asked further.
Ye Fan pondered momentarily and said, “Politically correct, yet too hasty…”
It took about two or three minutes to elaborate his views from the perspectives of state altruism and personal interest.
Only then did Ye’s grandfather show slight satisfaction, nodding his head and smiling a little from his wrinkled face.
He offered Ye Fan a few pointers on Chao Cuo’s policies concerning frontier defenses.
After the discussion concluded, Ye’s grandfather finally turned his attention to Li Zhaojun.
“Your wife…” Ye’s grandfather asked.
Ye Fan immediately said, “Her name is Li Zhaojun, the granddaughter of Old Li, and she is currently the chairman and president of Emali Group, which is valued close to ten billion dollars.”
Old Master Ye nodded slightly and said, “I remember.”
“Grandfather, my grandfather asked me to say hello to you on his behalf,” Li Zhaojun said at the right moment.
Old Master Ye showed a smile and rarely let out a chuckle, asking, “How is your grandfather’s health?”
“Not bad, he reads books and newspapers every day,” Li Zhaojun replied.
“Of course, his health may not be as good as yours.”
Old Master Ye sighed and said, “Your grandfather is truly enjoying life.
It’s a pity that the descendants of the Ye family are unworthy, and I, an old man, still need to contribute.”
“Xiao Fan, what day is it today?” Old Master Ye then asked Ye Fan.
Ye Fan replied, “Grandfather, today is Wednesday.
Tomorrow, your birthday, is Thursday.”
“It’s not easy for you to come back to the 49th city, so I’ll allow you to stay until Sunday this week.
If you have time these days, accompany Zhaojun to visit her mother,” Old Master Ye said.
Ye Fan was slightly surprised that the old master had allowed him to stay in the 49th city for two extra days just for Li Zhaojun.
“Thank you, Grandfather,” Li Zhaojun said, already happily thanking him in advance.
With this attitude from Old Master Ye, even if Li Zhaojun couldn’t win Ye Fan’s heart in a short time, it would probably be difficult for Ye Fan to insist on divorcing her.
Then Ye Fan finally put on a smile and said, “Thank you, Grandfather.”
“Alright, I’m a bit tired, you guys go back,” Old Master Ye said, and then closed his eyes.
Both Ye Fan and Li Zhaojun respectfully said, “Goodbye, grandfather,” and then quietly left the living room.
After leaving the living room, Uncle Qin was waiting outside in the hallway.
Seeing Ye Fan and Li Zhaojun come out looking relaxed, he greeted them with a smile.
“Is the old chief happy?” he asked Ye Fan.
Ye Fan smiled and said, “He’s in a good mood.
He asked me to tell you to come in.”
“Mhm,” Uncle Qin responded.
“Goodbye, Uncle Qin,” Ye Fan said.
Li Zhaojun followed with a similar farewell.
Uncle Qin smiled and said, “Go on back.”
After saying goodbye to Uncle Qin, Ye Fan and Li Zhaojun walked out of the yard together.
Uncle Qin entered the living room, walked quietly up to Old Master Ye, and called out to him.
Old Master Ye opened his eyes and inquired, “How is Xiao Fan doing in Hua Hai City?”
“Very low-key,” Uncle Qin replied.
“Except for the time he had to leave for Africa twice and the United States once because of business with the Dragon Group.”
“Have Xiao Fan and Zhaojun been living together continuously?” Old Master Ye further asked.
Uncle Qin hesitated for a moment and said, “A few months ago, Xiao Fan moved out and lived in a hotel.
However, Xiao Fan has been working at Emali Group the whole time.”
“Troublesome,” Old Master Ye commented.
Uncle Qin defended Ye Fan, saying, “Modern young people are more liberal in their thinking, and it’s only natural that they need some time to adjust to each other.”
