Chapter 96: Preferred Deal
Now it was time for the railway construction, and Jayden’s land happened to be among the very space the railway would pass through.
As a matter of fact, it was around the exact spot where a railway station would be best built, and the New Wiston Government had just contacted him for negotiations.
This was actually the main reason he had shown up as Jayden Cole in the first place, because he knew he would be getting some money from it at least, and he had plans.
He had thirty plots, all around the important sites of the project, which made it a good deal.
The next day, he was invited to the Local Government Headquarters for a negotiation with the Project Finance Manager.
Jayden pulled up in the Nova X, entering the place with an aura that had everyone watching in amazement.
Now the Nova X was already trending, so it had become familiar. But there were still those who appeared to know nothing about it.
Jayden ignored the looks and moved forward to the main building, where he was led to the Project Finance Manager’s office.
"Welcome, Mr. Cole. It’s so nice to have you here," the Project Finance Manager, a man who appeared to be in his early forties, welcomed Jayden with a diplomatic smile on his face.
"Have your seat, please," he added, and Jayden didn’t hesitate.
"We have been held up by this meeting, Mr. Cole. We only need to finalize an agreement with you before commencing construction. Here’s the offer we have," the man said as he forwarded some stacked papers with a black hardcover.
Jayden was surprised they didn’t even let him suggest his interest, but he didn’t react yet. All the while, he maintained a smile with a congenial look.
After grabbing the papers, he read carefully.
(Proposal for a deal with thirty plots owner, Jayden Cole.)
(We are offering one hundred thousand dollars for each plot, with a total of $3,000,000.)
(Please sign here if you agree with the deal, or reject the offer.)
Jayden raised his head to look at the Project Finance Manager. "I reject this offer."
The man flinched—it was something he hadn’t expected. Considering the fact that one hundred thousand dollars was big money, it was crazy how Jayden had rejected it.
The man tried to remain calm and gave Jayden a new paper that had a form on it.
"Write down your preferred deal," he said.
Jayden gave a nod as he grabbed the papers and a pen. In a moment, he was done filling it and handed it over to the man.
"Five hundred thousand?! That’s way too much, Mr. Cole."
Jayden shook his head. "It’s nothing compared to the wealth of the state government. My preferred deal should even be considered small," he said.
"Well, I’m sorry, Mr. Cole. But I think the negotiation isn’t going well. If you won’t reduce your demand, I’m afraid the government will be taking your lands by force," the man said as a glare rose on his face.
However, Jayden didn’t even flinch. He stood up with a casual smile, attempting to leave.
"Oh well then. Maybe I might as well be forced to meet the Minister of Infrastructure himself..."
"Huh?" The man’s eyes widened at once.
"Article 9, page 25 of the Legal Ownership Book. All legal owners of a particular property are completely privileged to complain to the highest Order in any circumstances, and thereby free from any property violation by force," Jayden spoke.
The man was left dumbfounded at that point as he watched him speak. Now it felt like his profound confidence had died down, and Jayden loved every bit of his reaction.
"Have a nice day."
Jayden attempted to leave at that point, but then...
"Wait!"
Before turning, he gave a wry smile and shook his head, muttering, "I know what you guys do."
"Well, okay then. Let’s get on with the deal."
"Oh, okay..." Jayden shrugged as he walked to sit. He then signed the contract, with the man doing the same as well.
That same moment, fifteen million dollars was wired to his account, and he had to make a confirmation before leaving.
"It’s nice doing business with you," Jayden gave a smile that held a sense of mockery as he extended his hand for a shake.
He could clearly sense the man’s unhappy look, but it wasn’t as if he cared.
Jayden knew that this project involved a lot of money, as it was an interstate project. He knew that the government had allocated good funding to the finance team, and paying him just one hundred thousand dollars was unacceptable, thanks to the system, which had initially told him to go big.
If the government had truly ordered the Project Finance Manager to pay one hundred thousand dollars, he would have been confident in taking the lands by force. Jayden knew that this man was a fraud, just like other government personnel, but in his case, he was the one getting outsmarted.
...
Meanwhile, in the office of the Finance Manager...
With an unrelaxed look on his face, he grabbed the telephone to make a call.
Beep. Beep.
"Mr. Mike. Our plan has failed. This Jayden guy turned out to be a smart one. I couldn’t risk my job," he said.
"How much did he demand?" Mr. Mike, on the other end, asked, his tone sharp yet filled with disappointment.
"All of it. The exact amount given by the Minister. It was like he knew everything before coming here. I’m sorry, Mr. Mike..." the man said.
BEEP. BEEP!
(Call Ended)
"Mr. Mike?"
"Mr. Mike?"
"Shii...!"
He slammed the telephone hard as he clenched his teeth.
Mr. Mike was the assistant commissioner of New Wiston, who had been working with him for some years. This was definitely the first failed business they had, but unfortunately, it was the biggest catch they could have gotten, and it was normal for Mr. Mike to be angry... perhaps.
The Project Finance Manager only hoped that what happened today wouldn’t lead to any controversy that might affect his job, and the case was now on Jayden.
His survival depended on whether or not Jayden made any report about it.
