Chapter 74: Unexpected Appearance

The entire courtroom was soaked in stunned gasps the moment that statement was made.

A smile crossed Gregory’s lips, seeing the reaction of almost everyone against him in the hall.

Shocking.

Disappointing.

Unbelievable.

All eyes turned to Mara as she stood there, almost shivering as she sensed the heat coming toward her.

But she wasn’t done.

"Mr. Kingsley is right. I was forced to frame him, forging the recordings and everything I told the court the other day."

Chaotic gasps and murmurings rose again, this time more intense than before. No one had expected such a twist here today after what happened on the first day...

The plaintiffs were completely stunned beyond measure, as Naylah, Kurtis, and Silas sat frozen while they watched her speak.

It was as if they were stuck in a dream world all of a sudden... but it was clear they weren’t.

This was trouble.

Something was wrong—they knew it.

"Excuse me, Miss Mara. Are you sure of what you are saying?" Merinda herself couldn’t believe her ears, a look of unease pasted on her pale face.

"Yes, I’m sure. The recordings, as Mr. Kingsley said, were AI-generated... I was forced to do it because the lives of my husband and children were on the line," Mara replied.

More chaos ensued, and the scene got hotter. Just like that, the plaintiffs were on the losing side, because this was a direct slap in the face and an unpredictable way to destroy everything.

Even the judge himself was short of words, watching and listening attentively as she explained further. Thomas was also on the defendants’ side with a smile on his face.

The defendant’s corner was solely delighted at that point, clearly because they had risen from bottom to top.

It was a really shocking twist.

"So, Miss Mara Newton. What you are trying to say now is that the plaintiffs threatened to harm your family if you didn’t frame the defendants?" the judge then asked, his face deadly serious.

Mara stayed silent for a moment, observing the crowd—precisely the Vanes and Naylah, who had their eyes widened the entire time.

After hesitating, she turned to the judge.

"Yes, my lord."

Another rain of murmurings fell over the crowd, the tension reaching its peak.

"Objection, my lord!"

"Objection overruled!"

The judge silenced Merinda, who was trying to defend her clients, as she frustratingly clenched her fists.

Naylah almost broke down in tears, as a plain feeling of betrayal crushed her heart.

"Proof?" The judge gave Mara a glance as she came forward.

"We need an AI detector here."

The judge ordered that an AI detector machine be brought forward. Even at that, the Kingsleys’ expressions still remained firm.

The machine was brought in, and a technology expert came forward at once. Mara’s phone was collected to check her recordings so they could detect if they were AI-generated or not.

That was the only way the judge could determine his judgment, and until then, there would be no final decisions.

What looked like a USB cord was connected from the machine to the phone as they played the recordings. The evaluation lasted for up to a minute before the machine gave a signal...

And when it did...

For a moment, the entire court was frozen in time until the technology expert notified the judge with a whisper in his ear.

The judge gave a nod at once, as if not moved by the outcome, and then faced the court.

"After the detection carried out, we have confirmed that the recordings made by Miss Mara Newton... were AI-generated."

"I said it!"

"The Vanes were trying to win this case by crook. What a shame!"

"Shame. They’ve just tarnished their reputation."

"I can’t believe they did this... So ridiculous."

Murmurs rose again, but this time were quickly silenced as the judge wasn’t done talking.

Naylah was seen crying after that announcement, broken down. At that point, everyone already saw them as the devil in the garden, so no amount of explanation could prove otherwise.

Her second attempt to fight for her late husband had failed? Just like that?

The judge continued. "Now that the truth has been revealed, the following judgment will be passed. For being threatened and forced to make a falsehood, Miss Mara Newton will be completely pardoned, as a plea from the defendants who totally understand her act from her position."

"As for the plaintiffs, they will be charged for conspiracy and framing of the defendants in pursuit of winning the case, which is strictly against the law. The punishment for this act, for First Class citizens like them, is a two-week house arrest and a fine of ten million dollars. Failure to accept this punishment will trigger a possible ten-year imprisonment sentence."

"However, the plaintiffs may still be eligible to bring up the case again since it’s not completely settled. But before that can happen, a petition must be written to the defendants, and they will be the ones to decide whether to appear or not."

The judge announced.

The whole court went bizarre, while the plaintiffs’ corner was deeply silent.

Merinda had her jaw dropped.

Silas was totally exasperated.

Luka sat expressionless.

Kurtis folded his arms in despair, clearly the first time he had felt this down.

And for the main figure...

Naylah just couldn’t hold back the tears that kept falling time after time, but little to no one paid her any heed at that time.

After the judge had made that statement, he was about to hit the gavel when a voice suddenly sounded from the main entrance.

A feminine voice that made him pause at once.

"Wait!"

The whole crowd turned toward the direction of the voice, their eyes sharp.

The figure they spotted turned the air upside down. The entire court gasped hard as the young lady of the Kingsley family stepped in.

"She is wrong!"

Royce and Gregory spotted her, and their eyes widened at once.

"If there’s anyone being framed here, it’s the plaintiffs..."

Emily stepped forward with a phone in her hand and handed it to the judge.

"I have a recording with me. Go ahead and check if it’s AI. But if it’s not, then it should be clear that the defendants here..."

She turned to her father and brother...

"They are the devil!"
