Chapter 75: The Things We Do For Love
While the construction of the new factory began, the car project was never affected. Jayden made sure that there was enough manpower to boost the pace, and with almost $2 million, he got everything done.
On the other hand, he was already hearing news of the ongoing court case. Rumors had it that the Vanes and Naylah were in the lead, but in recent messages, they stated that everything flipped the other way in the blink of an eye.
He was scrolling through SnapTube when he suddenly stumbled upon a channel that drew his attention.
Shockingly, it appeared to be a live broadcast of the court case. Jayden flinched for a moment, but then clicked to watch.
The first image he saw was a female lawyer standing in front of a lady. The broadcasting channel made sure to reveal her name on the screen:
Mara Newton.
She appeared terrified but stood firm, and it seemed that she had done something against the plaintiffs, judging from what Jayden observed.
He heaved a sigh and continued watching.
The first statement he heard was...
("Objection, my lord!")
And then...
("Objection overruled!")
Which was against the lawyer he sensed to be representing the plaintiffs.
With a series of murmurs from the crowd inside the court, it seemed the topic was about the plaintiffs framing the defendants.
Jayden’s jaw dropped.
At first, he thought that really had happened.
"I knew it. The Vanes can’t be trusted."
But in the next moment, he thought about it and figured it might be the Kingsleys doing their thing.
After a while of confusion, the judge went on to make a judgment:
("Now that the truth has been revealed, the following judgment will be passed. For being threatened and forced to make a falsehood, Miss Mara Newton will be completely pardoned, as a plea from the defendants who totally understood her act from her position.")
("As for the plaintiffs, they will be charged with conspiracy and framing of the defendants in pursuit of winning the case, which is strictly against the law. The punishment for this act for First Class citizens like them is two weeks of house arrest and a fine of ten million dollars. Failure to accept this punishment triggers a possible ten-year imprisonment sentence.")
("However, the plaintiffs may still be eligible to bring up the case again since it’s not completely settled, but before that can happen, a petition must be written to the defendants, and they will be the ones to decide their appearance or not.")
Things weren’t going well for Naylah and the Vanes, as far as he could tell. They were just about to be charged for blackmailing Gregory Kingsley by using Mara as a weapon.
He didn’t want to believe that was true, but the punishment was now being passed right before his eyes.
It only took the hit of the gavel to finalize it.
He spotted his so-called mother there, shedding tears.
The feeling was real... she was certainly crying out of frustration and defeat. It felt like she had lost again, and it indeed felt like she had.
Even the Vanes had their jaws dropped like fighters who were already defeated. Silas Vane had a different look...
Anger...
More anger...
Even more anger...
Like he had the urge to charge at the judge and twist his neck, stopping him from hitting that gavel.
However, there was no way that would be happening in a room heavily secured by a considerable number of armed officers.
When all hope seemed lost, then... in the eyes of everyone... A figure stepped into the building, her eyes sharp like the edge of a blade, as she made the entire room gasp the moment she was spotted.
("Wait!")
Jayden’s face brightened.
At that instant, she had averted the judge from hitting the gavel, leaving the hall astonished.
("She is wrong!")
Jayden felt the chaos intensify after that statement, now all eyes on the young lady who had just spoken against her own family.
("If there’s anyone being framed here, it’s the plaintiffs...")
("I have a recording with me. Go ahead and check if it’s AI, but if it’s not, then it should be clear that the defendants here...")
("They are the devil!")
Jayden caught a glimpse of the stunned reactions from Gregory and Royce, who remained in their seats with their lips zipped shut.
The scene only got hotter and hotter, and with that said, the judge withdrew from finalizing the judgment as they went straight to AI detection.
Surprisingly, it appeared that her own recordings weren’t AI-generated, and the crowd went wild as they began playing it for the entire court.
Jayden was now deeply drawn in by the drama unfolding, seeing the reawakening and hopeful face of Naylah.
He heard the recording clearly as it played on, stunned.
It was a clear scene of Gregory, Royce, and some of their subordinates deciding on what to do to make Mara renounce her accusations against them.
The court went wilder.
There, Gregory and the rest suggested many things until Royce brought up a direct idea of having her husband and children kidnapped by a gang based in an entirely different city, in a different state.
They stated that they would threaten to kill them all, and that way, she wouldn’t have a choice but to deny her first claim in court at the second meeting.
("You all must have known who I am... But I’ll introduce myself officially anyway. I’m Emily Kingsley, daughter of Gregory Kingsley, and this evidence I’ve got was carefully recorded a few days ago.")
("I have my reasons for going against my father, but I’m clearly against him because he is guilty.")
Emily was bold before the court as she spoke, overlooking the striking glances from her father and brother.
Every single figure in the court was stunned beyond measure, and no one would have expected her to do such a thing.
However, it was actually happening...
Emily Kingsley had gone against the Kingsleys.
How much more shocking could that be?
But Jayden clearly understood what had happened there. It was something he barely expected but wasn’t entirely surprised to see, especially since he was never in support of the defendants.
With a soft chuckle, he muttered.
"The things we do for love."
