Chapter 43: Mage Evolution Path, Elements
’This world’s gods are essentially farming Faith Energy from billions of lives without lifting a single finger. Adequately smart.’
Out of respect for fellow grinders, Jin wouldn’t mind sparing their lives when it came that time of year again. Of course, that was only assuming they stayed out of his... way.
’For Geography, it’s basically just the 42 Kingdoms and countless Families and Factions that live under the banner of the 42 Kingdoms,’ Jin thought. ’There’s also the fact that this Moon God Kingdom is located on the Moon’s Grace Peninsula, far away from most other human civilizations. This makes it extremely difficult for the other Kingdoms to advance or take advantage of the Moon God Kingdom, but also makes common trade much more expensive and difficult.’
Being surrounded by sea on all sides wasn’t so bad. After all, it’d make it simpler to keep a low profile while Jin worked on restoring his cultivation to what it was in the Main World.
’Then, finally, there’s the Cultivation System.’
The people of this world were either mortals or something called a... Mage.
These Mages, who became stronger by absorbing the ’Magicules’ in the atmosphere, were categorized by seven Realms. They were:
1- Apprentice
2- Mage
3- High Mage
4- Master Mage
5- Grandmaster Mage
6- Great Grandmaster Mage
7- Archmage
And of those Realms, barely anyone ever made it even into the official Mage Realm. They’d spend their whole lives meandering through the Apprentice Realm’s 7 Minor Stages, otherwise known as Circles.
But don’t be mistaken, a 7th Circle Apprentice, although not a genuine Mage, was still a force to be reckoned with. Small buildings could be destroyed with ease if they went all out.
’Apprentice should be roughly equivalent to the 1st through 6th Levels of the 1st Rank.’
’Mage is 8th through 12th Levels of the 1st Rank.’
’High Mage is 2nd through 5th Levels of the 2nd Rank.’
’Master Mage is 7th through 12th Levels of the 2nd Rank.’
’Grandmaster Mage is 3rd through 6th Levels of the 3rd Rank.’
’Great Grandmasterage is the 9th through 12th Levels of the 3rd Rank.’
’As for the Archmage Rank...’
There simply wasn’t enough information in the Royal Library to paint a clear picture of that Realm for Jin. However, he was certain that it was either infinitely close to reaching the 4th Rank, or actually of the 4th Rank.
Even Great Grandmasters were only born once every few centuries in each of the 42 Kingdoms. They’d then go on to become the Guardians of the Kingdoms, intimidating other Kingdoms and serving theirs until their final breath. Archmages, which stood a rank higher, were naturally even more unfathomable and hard to come by.
’As of right now, there should be just about a dozen or so Great Grandmasters in the Spirit Continent, none of which are a part of the Moon God Kingdom.’
The last Great Grandmaster Mage of the Moon God Kingdom perished more than a century ago. Since then, the Kingdom entered a period of constant decline, and before Jin’s birth, was sure to experience an uprising or usurpation of the throne.
’Mages are said to follow in the footsteps of the Gods, but... there’s no mention of how exactly one is supposed to reach the level of the Gods. It only says that "once you achieve the limit of success in the Mage Path, the stairway to the Domain of Gods will descend before you and guide you towards greater heights."’
Jin assumed the "limit of success" referred to the Archmage Realm. But as for what happened after reaching that point, he honestly had no idea. fre\e(w)ebn ov.e l\. co.m
But from how the scriptures described it, those who ascended the ’Stairway to Heaven’... never returned.
’One would assume that those Limit Mages ascend to Godhood as well, but the truth is that the number of Gods has never changed.’
’For more than ten thousand years, there have always been but... 42 Gods.’
Regardless of what was actually happening in this world, Jin would avoid it. He’d conceal his strength until he obtained a better grasp on the situation, lest he attract the attention of those mysterious beings hidden above.
And so, with that in mind, he continued reading.
...
Half a year later.

Closing the last page of a book outlined in gold on the topmost floor of the Royal Library, Baby Jin focused his mind, deep in a state of comprehension.
[Your Understanding is Against-Heaven. By reading the Cultivation Technique "Magic Ascension Chart," you have comprehended it along with the concepts behind its creation.]

The system notifications continuously rang out in a silent tone within Jin’s head. And with every additional notification, his future cultivation journey became clearer and clearer.
"I see it now." He abruptly opened his eyes. Contained inside them were principles of Intent and Fusion as well as trace signs of Ascendancy.
"Because of the Magicules in the atmosphere, I’ve managed to utilize Essence Refinement to the point where I’ve returned to my previous cultivation. However, now I have a good idea of the steps I need to take a thousand steps into the future, which makes it far easier to walk my current steps."
Jin could already foresee himself achieving the Peak of Rank 2 within a year, getting his Foundational Intents 100% merged with his Dantian.
"Originally, I worried about the lack of proper opponents to comprehend Intents from, but this world and its cultivation system are far better than I’d thought they’d be," said Jin. "Or rather, it’s the fortune of being born into this family and gaining access to this library that has quickened my accumulation of Intents. After all, within this library lay many thousands of books on the directions that a Mage can take in their cultivation."
In essence, all Evolution Paths were fundamentally the same.
Even across Dimensions, Evolution Paths and Cultivation Systems had barely any differences at the fundamental level.
In the Main World, there were various forms of energy to take advantage of. And there were Intents—concepts that could be comprehended from various aspects of existence.
On the Spirit Continent, however, there was only one type of energy: Magicules.
And there was no notion of Intents. In their place, though, there were... Elements.
