Chapter 915: Chapter 61: Defensive Tactics Part 2

From the speaker, Tang Zheng’s calm voice resonated, instantly instilling a sense of composure in everyone. Although all the Natives had perished, he had managed to gather plenty of intelligence in advance. At the very least, he knew the terrain of the entire City by heart, which meant they wouldn’t be running around blindly.

After giving the soldiers a quick treatment, Dantai scurried onto Lu Fan’s car and also called Qin Yan over to explain the basic structure of the Bulwark and its subsidiary fortifications.

"If we had the time, I would truly wish to construct a Permanent Fortification." Dantai sighed, holding a drawing board and writing on it with an oil-based pen, "However, we must set up a rudimentary form that is sufficient for us to take cover before the next wave of Bugs arrives."

Lu Fan nodded, immediately asking about anything he didn’t understand. Thankfully, Little Lolita was precocious and not of low intelligence; otherwise, Dantai would have definitely abandoned this strategy.

Because it was night and the roads were unfamiliar, even with the excellent driving skills of Pang Meiqin leading the way, the Fleet took twenty-five minutes to reach the Suburbs. But this result was encouraging to the Newbies, as they felt Tang Zheng hadn’t lied and that the situation was developing in a favorable direction for them.

"Tang Zheng, don’t worry too much. We’ll all get through this!" Seeing the Group Leader’s brows furrowed, Xu Biyun felt distressed, thinking herself too dumb to do anything but execute missions and unable to share their burden.

"Don’t worry, everything is still under Control!" Tang Zheng was startled and then realized he’d let his emotions show to the group members. After scanning their faces, he indeed saw the worry and quickly clarified, as it was absolutely a mistake that shouldn’t have happened as a Group Leader.

The people inside the carriage breathed a sigh of relief, unaware of Tang Zheng’s concern. By normal estimation, it should have taken fifteen minutes to reach the Suburbs. Tang Zheng had intentionally added an extra fifteen minutes to avoid errors that could affect the team’s confidence.

"Alright, stop the car. We’ll dig Shelter nearby. Lu Fan, Qin Yan, High Platoon Leader, Left Platoon Leader, follow Dantai and see what he needs you to do." Tang Zheng had never attended a military academy and was not skilled in constructing fortifications; any mistake could lead to casualties.

"The soil quality is passable!" Dantai rubbed the Soil under his feet. They were five miles away from the Suburbs, where, due to the Greenhouse Effect, vegetation thrived abnormally, filling the view with green. The Night Wind blew, and the rustling sound resembled silkworms devouring mulberry leaves but didn’t cause much of an issue.

"Lu Fan, come here and dig several trenches." Having found a suitable spot, Dantai immediately requested work to begin.

Lu Fan unleashed her Ability, and the loose Soil began to move. Soon, it turned into granules that piled up, but since she did not burst seed, her control over the Soil was crude and unable to form the structure Dantai wanted.

"Damn dirty Soil, transform for me." Lu Fan didn’t want to be looked down upon, so she burst seed, and finally, the Soil began to pile up into the shapes the Special Agent desired. However, because it was not sand, the Little Lolita had to spend more Life Energy to accomplish all this, soon causing fine beads of sweat to appear on her forehead.

Bai Guo and Xu Biyun, driving the Scavenger Mechs, scattered landmines around the area while the others kept themselves busy, working against the clock.

Without any warning, a Teleportation Gate appeared nearby and suddenly opened, with a torrent of Yak Beetles pouring out.

"Continue on, we will fight for time." Tang Zheng, who was packing the Soil on a trench with an Iron shovel, immediately ran towards the Leopard Tank, leaped in a bound, and jumped into the carriage. The turret began to rotate with a thunderous roar, aiming at the Teleportation Gate, and the 120mm smoothbore gun began to rumble, shaking the entire car.

Thump, the Bullet hit the Teleportation Gate, creating ripples through the air.

The other two Tanks also began to roar. During the short break, Pang Meiqin had given them a crash course in Bombardment skills—not much accuracy required, just firing would suffice.

In just seconds, nearly five hundred Yak Beetles appeared on the ground, but after being plowed by Cannon Shells, many Corpses were left behind.

Bai Guo and Xu Biyun, dual-wielding 30mm machine guns, opened fire, hurrying back. Behind them, another Teleportation Gate opened, and the emerging Beetles began to block their retreat; an Overlord Beetle also emerged from another Gate, gathering Energy in its mouthparts, and then a Light Beam sprayed out, brightening the Night Sky suddenly and even allowing one to see the pale faces of some Newbies.

"Full firepower, knock out the Teleportation Gates." This wave must be eliminated swiftly to buy time; the necessary expenditure of Ammunition was acceptable.

The three Beetle Assault Vehicles opened their Bullet Nests, and two hundred Rocket Shells whistled out, blasting the Gate releasing the Overlord Beetles to pieces. Although the Bullet Nests could reload automatically, it took a minute, which seemed extremely slow. Luckily, the soldiers began launching AT-4s, one after another towards the Gates, shaking them to near collapse.

Self-destructive flying bugs also made their appearance, in greater numbers than the last wave. Without Shelter, they dived like a Dare to Die Team toward them.

"First, take out the Gates releasing the self-destructive flying bugs. Yu Manli, Ruan Feifei, blast them." Dantai, having depleted his Beetle ammunition, took up the Scavenger and opened fire again.

Ruan Feifei waved her right hand, and a bolt of lightning darted out from it, then suddenly surged to form a Blue-White Electric Current that arced across the sky. Any self-destructive flying bug touched by it was detonated.

Yu Manli manned an Armored Vehicle’s machine gun, firing at the sky at the self-destructive flying bugs that had escaped the barrage. Clumps of Broken Flesh exploded in midair, and the fragments of flesh and blood, carried by the Night Wind, fluttered down, sticking to everyone present.
