Chapter 914: Chapter 61: Defensive Tactics

The remaining bugs numbered over two thousand, all phosphorus-winged flying insects. Because they could fly, they’d evaded the explosion range. Emerging from the dust, they launched their attack.

"Move out!" Dantai leaped into the lead Hummer, slammed the car door with a bang, and grabbed the car radio, "Tang Zheng, we must find somewhere to hold our ground. A 12-hour rally race is too taxing on stamina and mental strength, even gods can’t sustain it."

As professional soldiers, both the platoon leader and the squad leader were concerned about this issue. Based on the intensity of the attack during the past hour, they estimated that within four hours, the team would be overwhelmed by the bugs. However, it seemed there was no need for them to worry; the deputy group leader was obviously no slouch.

Da da da, the soldiers gripped the vehicle-mounted machine guns, opening fire on the pursuing bugs. The nearly meter-long orange-red muzzle flames spewed forth, dazzling against the night sky. As the bugs were hit, they fell, screaming. However, their numbers were too great, they obscured the moonlight and cast mottled shadows on the ravaged road surface.

"Use buildings as temporary defense? No, we’re not familiar with the terrain, and if bugs are in the buildings, they’ll need to be cleared, which is a waste of time," Tang Zheng’s brows were nearly knotted as he babbled over the car radio, which had a range of only 100 meters and was filled with static at slightly longer distances, painfully piercing the eardrums.

"Get out of the city, or find an open area to construct a semi-underground bunker complex. We have enough ammunition, and our personnel are sufficient. We might be able to hold out," Dantai suggested while considering the feasibility. With Lu Fan around, digging a foundation was not a problem. The key was reinforcement, "We need clear fields of fire and air defense."

"That can work, you oversee the whole situation," Tang Zheng agreed. Instead of using unfamiliar buildings for defense, it was better to build their own, of course, provided they could survive the bugs’ relentless assault.

"From now on, prioritize thermal weapons, then S-Class Firearms. Conquerors, conserve your life energy. Without my command, do not use any abilities," Dantai rapidly laid out the battle plan.

"Judging by the bugs’ attacks, their strength and numbers are increasing. In the end, who knows what kind of monsters we’ll face? We must have a way out," Yu Manli said with a face full of concern, grasping the sound pickup, ready to interject when the anchorwoman held her back.

"No need, do you think Dantai hasn’t thought of that?" Ruan Feifei wasn’t worried; had it been Tang Zheng, he may really stand with the newbies till the end, but Dantai definitely wouldn’t.

Actually, Conquerors all understood that no matter what tactics were used, after 12 hours, if two-thirds of these newbies survived, they’d be immensely grateful.

Shen Qingshuang cradled her rifle, sitting in the back seat facing the window, but she shot a glance at the mature woman and the anchorwoman, her brain constantly pondering how to increase their survival rate.

"Damn it, if only the ability had been activated earlier." Faced with the pressure and finding no way out, Shen Qingshuang cursed inwardly for the first time.

Ah, suddenly a piercing scream came through the radio, snapping everyone back to attention.

"Xiao Zhao, hang in there, it’ll be alright soon."

"Brother Sun, I’m done for, give me a quick end, please!"

These words seemed to be squeezed from his throat, from the soldier who’d unluckily had his thigh broken in the lobby. With both legs fractured and too much blood lost, he knew he only had minutes to live.

"Bastard, what nonsense are you spouting?" the soldier nicknamed Brother Sun cursed, and then roared into the sound pickup, "I’m in car eight, the command vehicle, can you guys hear me? We have a casualty, we need immediate medical assistance!"

"Loud and clear." Before Brother Sun could repeat himself, Dantai responded and made a decision, "Car two, clear the way, the others don’t stop, keep moving and shooting."

Dantai jumped out of the command vehicle, waiting for car eight; he was also agonized. The special agents had seen the soldier’s injury—it was too severe, beyond help, even with the Nanobot Injection, they’d merely be postponing the inevitable, wasting a person to take care of him, and such an atmosphere also dampened the team’s morale.

"How’s it going?" Dantai scrambled into the car, the door flying open, and was immediately hit by a strong stench of blood. The soldier with the severed leg was already delirious, yet Brother Sun still clutched his hand, incessantly encouraging him to hang on.

Another soldier shook his head, his expression bleak.

"Pull open his shirt, expose his chest." Dantai took out a syringe, thumbed off the needle cap, and then plunged it into his chest, pushing the blue liquid into him, "What’s his blood type?"

"Type B, can you save him?" Brother Sun still harbored a sliver of hope, looking at Dantai, "Isn’t this the Trojan Horse Game? Don’t you guys have high technology?"

"I’ll do my best." Dantai again opened a First Aid Kit, took out Plasma and started a transfusion, followed by a Painkiller Injection.

"Deputy Group Leader, please save him. He’s only eighteen, aren’t you supposed to have superpowers?" Brother Sun was concerned about Xiao Zhao and anxious on his behalf.

"It’s useless," Dantai shook his head; this was the limit of what he could do. Gu Xueqi’s ability needed to be saved for the most critical moment, and just as the two were speaking, the bugs trailing them were eliminated, temporarily relieving the crisis.

"Drive at full speed but safely. In thirty minutes, we’ll be out of the city."
