Chapter 762: Chapter 25 Settling Down
"Bad woman, don’t kiss uncle." Lu Fan got angry, pulled out a kitchen knife and threatened to stab Chen Hong’s thigh.
The faded star jumped with fright and dodged.
"Uncle, be careful!" Lu Fan left arrogantly and proudly, reminding on his way out, "Take care of Cheng Cheng."
"Everyone, in order to survive, fight hard. If there’s nothing left to do, come to find me. I will find a convenience store to settle down." Tang Zheng left those newbies alone, took Cheng Cheng and walked out of the convenience store with the supplies.
"Hey? Tang Zheng, what should I do?" Li Hongda chased out, feeling depressed.
The newbies looked at each other, not knowing what to do, and a heated argument started.
"According to their words, we definitely can’t kill those demonic shadows. It’s better to act together." As an elite, Li Han knew that the team would definitely break apart after suffering casualties, but so what? He just wanted to use some newbies as cannon fodder to gather information on how to kill demonic shadows. Of course, before this, he wanted to squeeze the maximum value out of them.
"Agree, it’s too dangerous for a single person to act alone." The bald leader supported Li Han, ten other leaders also chimed in. Their regular job was to sit in an office or ride a car for inspection, talking, and let others do the hard work. So they seldom fought, having no combat power at all.
"What do you think, Huiqiao?" Song Huiqiao used to be the most beautiful at school, having a gentle and strong personality and being attractive. Even more than a decade later, her decision could still influence those guys. Li Han saw this.
"Agree." Song Huiqiao nodded, then looked at those old schoolmates who were watching her. She felt a bit guilty. She could guess Li Han’s idea, but it didn’t matter anymore. As a central figure, being with the guys was the only way to enjoy preferential treatment. Otherwise, she would have to struggle alone.
"I second the motion." The male classmates spoke up one after another after Song Huiqiao took the stand. Not one man left. Apart from their worries about acting alone, looking at Song’s sweet smile, they suddenly felt it was a good chance to get closer to her. Maybe they could get the woman they had once admired into bed.
In this situation, the women, because of their own strength problem, had a low status and their words wouldn’t get attention. Combined with all sorts of fear and worries, they hesitated.
The men naturally wanted to stay with the women and persuaded them.
Women who didn’t know what to do nodded and joined the team in front of them. After all, they were familiar faces, and there were many men. Although they didn’t want to admit it, they felt safer with men around in a crisis.
The remaining five rock youth men and women left excitedly. They couldn’t wait. This was Tokyo, Japan, a place they could never visit in their lifetime. Naturally, they had to have a good time. As for killing the demonic shadow, it was too dangerous. They had made up their minds. After a few days, they would rob the newbies and seize the soul shards from them.
"Haha, I’m smart, right? The worst-case scenario is that killing people is much simpler than killing demonic shadows. So let others fight and we can pick up the ready-made ones. But don’t be soft when robbing newbies." The long-haired young man was very pleased with himself and gave them a reminder at last.
"Rest assured, by the way, where is that kind of adult store? I really want to play with Japanese girls." A kid with acne licked his lips, looking at the women dressed in revealing fashions. He couldn’t help but swallow, sleeping with a Japanese girl would be something to boast about when he got back.
"Tang Zheng gave us only a hundred thousand Japanese yen. What can we do with this money? So stingy." Another one kept complaining.
"Come on, he gave you something, which is good enough. Otherwise, with the skills like you, you’d definitely starve on the street." The girl with the lip ring gave her companion a dismissive look. Having met a young man like Tang Zheng, comparing him with his friends, they were completely a pile of garbage, it was really annoying.
"What? Are you on heat? Why not go ahead and offer yourself? We may even get a share of your luck." The acne guy had no bottom line, suggesting directly that the lip ring girl sell her body.
"Nonsense, if I wanted to, he wouldn’t want me." The lip ring girl was very depressed and took off the lip ring. She hadn’t pierced her lip, she just had it hanging there.
" Look, aren’t you really going to clean up your act?" The acne guy wanted to grab the chest of the lip ring girl and she slapped his hand away, "Take your dirty hands off."
"Stop fighting. Why go to an adult store? Just drag a woman into the toilet, money and women taken care of. It might even be a virtuous woman." The long-haired young man was clearly the leader of this group.
The others hesitated. They were just all bravado, if they would really commit a crime they would hesitate.
"Having a psychological burden? Treat them as NPCs, okay?" As the long-haired young man licked his lip corner, he began looking for a place to start.
"But they’re real people, with flesh and blood." The lip ring girl objected.
"Whatever, I’m doing it anyway. I’ve already died once so before I die again, I must make a profit." The long-haired lad was a decadent youth who was never passionate about life, getting by day to day, pursuing enjoyment. The Trojan Horse Game was right up his alley.
"We’ll act tonight then, we’ll start with housebreaking and kidnapping a family. We’ll find a safe place once that’s done, today seems to be chaotic." The teen with acne decided to indulge himself.
Gu Xueqi was packing while listening to Li Han and the rest discussing their plans. She stuffed a samurai sword and a crossbow into her travel bag, followed by three days’ worth of rations. Then, she pulled out a plastic bag stuffed full of items like lighters, paper cutters, and ropes from behind a shelf.
When the other newbies were sleeping last night, Gu Xueqi had already scoured the entire convenience store to collect any items that might come in handy.
"Xueqi, won’t you join us?" Out of certain intentions, Li Han had asked every newbie for their names. Seeing Xueqi wanted to leave, he wanted to persuade her to stay.
Others also chimed in. Gu Xueqi’s appearance and physique were pleasant and she was a student, naturally attracting the attention of some men.
"No thanks." Gu Xueqi gave a cold reply. She had discerned what Li Han and his team had planned. Yet she did not want to intervene and warn the cannon fodder newbies. She was not a saviour. All she wanted was to live without any guilt.
"Staying with them and making use of Li Han, my chances of survival may increase by 30%. But that’s disgusting." Gu Xueqi puckered her mouth in distaste and left the convenience store. As a prideful girl, she would not stoop down just to please others or beg them for anything.
"Such a pity." Sighed Li Han, looking at Gu Xueqi’s youthful and already seductive figure. It was a shame that the beauty got away.
"The newbies who didn’t stick with the group or couldn’t use their brains should be the first to die. Following that, for their own benefits, the leaders would ally with some people. At this point, it’s a battle of intelligence, sociability, and luck. If the leader dies, the followers would be absorbed by others. If everyone survives, the team would definitely disintegrate. The officials are not of much help in combat, but they could be surprisingly useful. Just don’t underestimate them, Song Huiqiao." Gu Xueqi was silently evaluating the future of the team and whether she could gain any benefits from the situation.
Since middle school, Gu Xueqi had started to take up part-time jobs during her spare time in order to supplement her family’s income. This was done without her mother’s knowledge. Therefore, she was not an ivory-tower dweller who thought the world was simply full of goodness. She had known early on how hard and cruel society could be. She was always working hard to improve herself, acquire new skills, gather life experiences, and do all she could to survive. Ever since five years ago, she had been living on just five hours of sleep a day, every single day, never wasting a second.
"Qin Yan and Xin Lan are very kind-hearted, but they don’t know how to use the wrist band. Otherwise, I could get some help from them. As for Tang Zheng, he seems to be a nice person, but I can’t see through him." Gu Xueqi was making mental notes about the surroundings while she walked off road, always keeping herself from running into any policemen.
"What’s your ability?" Tang Zheng drove near Fushioka Women’s Academy when he got into his hunting zone. Ikebukuro is a transportation hub with many stations and railways, which makes the traffic extremely convenient. However, because of the massive power outage, it felt like the entire city’s rhythm was lost. The streets were filled with anxious crowds.
"Fanfan once mentioned that my ability is to replicate others’ abilities." Chengcheng extended her hand, which was starting to turn into hard diamonds. Under the sunlight, it was incredibly dazzing.
"The Diamond Queen?" Tang Zheng nodded in approval. This way, Chengcheng would have great a chance of surviving. "How long can you hold on? Any limitations?"
"Three minutes. I can replicate someone’s ability if I touch them for ten seconds. Puppet Fan Fan said he doesn’t want me to replicate abilities randomly. I just need to activate Diamond Queen when I am in danger." All the tests were upon instruction of Lu Fan. Chengcheng only followed the instructions, she didn’t realize how powerful her ability was.
"Alright, just remember to protect yourself." Tang Zheng patted Chengcheng’s head. "Tired yet? Want me to carry you?"
"I’m not tired. I can walk." Chengcheng refused. She didn’t want to be a burden. She was thinking if they encountered a monster, she could help her brother fight.
The electricity supply could not be restored in such a short time. Many government officials’ cars drove past. The members of parliament stood on them, calming the citizens through loudspeakers. All of the police officers in Tokyo had been deployed to uphold the public order.
Tang Zheng had put on a piece of coarse cloth work clothes, which made him inconspicuous. He really wanted to snatch a car for easier movement, but the police patrols were too heavy and he couldn’t find the chance.
Nearing noon, Tang Zheng arrived at his hunting zone. He saw a number of long queues stretching out the convenience stores. Many customers were hoarding supplies and some were even fighting over them.
Without knowing when the convenience store would restock, a notice limiting quantity each customer could buy had been put up.
Tang Zheng started to look for his own accommodation, but there were no residential houses in the vicinity as it was a commercial area. (To be continued. If you enjoy this piece, please vote on Qidian as your support encourages me to write better.)
