When more than a hundred scorpions leading the pack - rising like a two-meter-high wave - appeared in everyone’s sight, even the well-versed wasteland dwellers felt their hair stand on end. Under the beam of the flashlight, every pair of pincers and stingers seemed to glimmer with the light of death.

"Damn, I have a fear of crowds," Gao Yu complained before pulling the trigger. The young soldiers also opened fire.

The scorpions wailed as bullets burrowed into their bodies, causing their juices and blood to splatter, and their severed limbs to fall continuously onto the ground.

Like waves crashing against a reef, the vanguard of the swarm of radiation scorpions was immediately halted, but they continued swarming forward.

"Keep the firepower going," commanded Tang Zheng as he turned his gaze to find a route for retreat. The darkness was not conducive for the survivors.

Lu Fan illuminated the area with his flashlight, revealing that nestled within the group of dog-sized scorpions were palm-sized little ones. Dodging the hail of bullets, they had already made it to the side of the wasteland dwellers, crawled onto their bodies and started biting and stinging them.

The line immediately collapsed, nobody could withstand the stinging from the scorpions. Everyone was retreating, too occupied trying to shake off the scorpions on their bodies, to counterattack.

Tang Zheng’s heavy machine gun went off, spewing a meter-long muzzle flame in the blink of an eye. In the darkness, the scorpions that had just rushed into the gate were immediately taken down.

Dantai Zongqi had also prepared a heavy machine gun and was now ruthlessly massacring the scorpions. Hot bullet casings dropped to the ground clanging, but their noise was quickly drowned out by the thunderous rumble of the machine guns.

The scent of gunpowder began to fill the air, further impairing vision.

"Hand grenade." Yin Shangwu discarded her spent PKP and switched to her Thunderstorm rifle, infuriated by the slow reaction of the wasteland dwellers who had so easily collapsed.

You couldn’t blame the likes of Old Pavel, as they were generally poor and had no opportunities to use hand grenades. So, in the midst of the crisis, their instinctual reaction was to fight back. They never even thought of using the big weapon, a hand grenade. Luckily they had Lu Fan, the little girl who completely disregarded any need to keep a low profile, dragged out three ammunition boxes filled with hand grenades, pried them open with her dagger and started chucking them.

Boom, boom. The hand grenades fell into the group of scorpions in front of the gates and exploded violently. The choking smoke and flames immediately emitted, scorpions were blown into the air scattered, their limbs started burning with popping noises.

Sounds of liquids splattering were heard as broken limbs and bodily fluids were flung onto the female models. Feeling the warm liquid on them, they screamed in fear and hid behind the others.

The intense gunshots in the warehouse created a massive echo, causing ears to ring painfully. Lu Fan was swinging her arms non-stop, hitting Tang Zheng and Qin Yan.

"The scorpions are climbing up!" Lu Fan was anxious. Though the protective clothing could prevent the stingers, they didn’t cover the head, and at that moment she wished she could meet the designer of the protective clothing face-to-face.

"Dantai, keep the firepower going, Old Gao switch the bullet chain," Tang Zheng let go of the machine gun and picked up the Thunderstorm Gun.

Dantai’s machine gun jammed.

"No good, we can’t hold them off."

It never rains but it pours. Having lost a significant number of ’dog-sized’ scorpions, larger off-road vehicle-sized scorpions took the lead and stormed in. Ordinary bullets required at least two to three hundred rounds to kill them. With these meat shields, the ’dog’ scorpions reorganized their attack and rushed in again.

Initially, when Tang Zheng managed to hold the gate, the wasteland dwellers also re-engaged in combat. But now, they had completely collapsed and were retreating.

"Retreat!" Tang Zheng cursed, pulled out a bundle of TNT and threw it towards the gate. Then, he lifted Lu Fan onto his back. Although the little girl had stamina, her legs were short. she may not necessarily be slower than the female models, but she was so small, there was a risk she might get trampled.

Lu Fan immediately used her flashlight to signal the direction to move.

Without the suppressive firepower, the swarm of scorpions rushed in like a mad tide, chasing after them.

"Go to hell!" After dashing fifty meters, Tang Zheng detonated the TNT. He didn’t know if the warehouse structure could withstand the explosion, but it was worth trying. Being buried alive was better than being eaten by scorpions.

The scorching blast wave trailed from behind, overturning everything within the warehouse passage. A dozen scorpions were lucky enough not only to survive but the blast wave sent them hurling into the crowd of people.

Now, it’s all about the ability to withstand the shock and speed of reaction. Some could bear the pain and stand up to escape, while the slower ones turned into lunch for the scorpions. They were crushed into two halves by the scorpions’ pincers, alive.

Out of the corner of his eye, Tang Zheng saw a female model falling beside him. Without bothering to guess her identity, he grabbed her clothes and dragged her along as he ran. Qin Yan and Yin Shangwu were donned with the titld of Conquerors, and were still able to counteract, hence blocking the scorpions from pursuing further.

"Uncle, give me a Thunderstorm rifle," Lu Fan knew that Tang Zheng had the Thunderstorm guns left behind by the deceased Li Xinlan and Lin Weiguo. She never asked for them, but now, the G36C was utterly inadequate.

"You throw grenades, you’re more used to that," Tang Zheng didn’t lack stamina, but his reflexes were not top-notch. So, surprisingly, the ones leading the run were Gao Yu and Tan Hui. Dantai also had improved speed, but, this special agent, even while escaping, didn’t forget to leave the front lines to others.

Fortunately, Tang Zheng and company’s luck hadn’t reached rock bottom yet. Through the gate on the other side of the warehouse, they stepped onto a spiral passage. Apart from the occasional few ghouls causing trouble, there were no large groups of radioactive creatures.
