Chapter 1287: Chapter 41: Fierce Attack (1st Update)
The werewolves were ferocious and fearless, attacking like a tsunami, wave after wave crashing against Tang Zheng and his two companions, but in the blink of an eye, they turned into corpses of severed limbs and dismembered arms.
Mu Nianqi went on a rampage, swinging her curved knife, her slaughtering movements carrying no trace of theatrical flair, yet her methods were brutally efficient. No enemy could stand against her, not even the elite werewolves, who couldn’t withstand two strikes.
The Northern Wind Ring was launched, and semi-transparent air blades continuously appeared around Queen Mu, spinning, growing in number, almost enveloping her entirely, making her seem like a tornado. Those air blades were incredibly sharp, not only blocking attacks but each slash would slice through a werewolf’s body.
Mu Nianqi practically turned into a human meat grinder, wherever she appeared, a pile of torn flesh and blood was left behind, staining the entire battlefield red.
Dantai went berserk, his attack releasing ghost-like spirits from between his brows, exploding amongst the werewolves in a silent spiritual blast, leaving the monsters with no chance to resist, their bodies stiffening as if momentarily frozen.
Queen Mu’s instinct to seize the combat opportunity was sublime, her body flashed as she split into two clones, sweeping across the battlefield with the air blades, rapidly annihilating two-thirds of the werewolves.
Tang Zheng exchanged a punch with the leader, who had a slightly better resistance to hits than his subordinates. Under the distraction of the ghost bomb, he was just dazed as though a baseball had struck his head, which was enough for Tang Zheng.
Zzzt, the Moon Blade aimed at the leader’s heart, but unfortunately, the creature’s slick fur deflected the blade, and the density of its body was like stabbing into stone, preventing the blade from penetrating.
The leader snapped out of it, roared at Tang Zheng, and used a sound wave to assault his mind while swinging both arms fiercely with a gust of wind, attempting to smash his head into a rotten watermelon.
Tang Zheng ducked and swerved behind the leader suddenly, locking his arms and hugging the creature’s barrel waist, then falling backward like pulling willow branches, slamming down the leader with a German suplex, smashing him fiercely onto the floor.
Boom, the leader’s head smashed into the ground, forming a half-meter deep pit, with web-like cracks spreading and stones scattering.
Tang Zheng let go, turned around, and grabbed the leader’s feet dangling in the air, forcibly twisting it a full three hundred and sixty degrees with brute force.
The sound of snapping bones was hair-raising, the leader screamed, his other leg kicking toward Tang Zheng.
Tang Zheng dodged to the side, the six Moon Blades he carried flew out, shooting toward the leader’s head. The leader quickly raised his arms to block, getting slashed with six bloody marks; however, his forehead still got grazed, creating a dent. Though the injury wasn’t severe, it was a significant blow to his dignity.
The leader roared repeatedly, trying to attack, but before he could jump up, his right leg shot with intense pain.
Tang Zheng never expected the S-Class Moon Blade to kill the leader—it was enough to buy time. He flipped his wrist, re-gripped the Moon Blade, and fiercely stabbed it into the leader’s Achilles tendon, severing it.
"I will slaughter you!" the leader arched like a carp turning in mid-air, as a soldier leaped five meters, slamming down his warhammer.
Bang, the leader was once again smashed to the floor, head bleeding, and Tang Zheng took the chance to sever the tendons in his other leg.
"Don’t you think the BOSS is too weak?" Mu Nianqi, effortlessly handling another clone, joined Tang Zheng in attacking the leader.
"Indeed, weak. Do you think there could be a possibility that Little Red Riding Hood turns into the BOSS upon triggering certain conditions?" Dantai, aside from having this concern, also wanted to trick Tang Zheng, "You fight the BOSS, Mu Nianqi and I will provide support."
"To be safe, let’s kill the leader first, he’s almost dead anyway, we’re not short on this bit of time," Mu Nianqi didn’t doubt Dantai’s motive, but she was more meticulous.
As Tang Zheng furiously attacked the leader, it suddenly occurred to him like a bolt of inspiration, seeming to connect some clues.
"At Little Red Riding Hood’s house, Teng Yuangxiang was targeted by werewolves, indicating they had already arrived. If they wanted to kidnap Little Red Riding Hood, they could have done so earlier, so why didn’t they? Also, when they were on the second floor, they didn’t fire their guns, which puzzled me at that time. It turns out they were afraid of harming Little Red Riding Hood," analyzed Tang Zheng, continuing his assault as the leader struggled intensely, increasing the danger. However, with Queen Mu joining the battle, they completely suppressed him.
"When you went after Little Red Riding Hood, they also relentlessly attacked us. If it were just to kill Little Red Riding Hood, there was no need to tangle with us!" Mu Nianqi slashed her curved knife across the leader’s neck, slicing halfway through his windpipe.
"Call Brother Lin!" Tang Zheng, too occupied to pull out his walkie-talkie, asked Dantai to make contact, "See if there’s any trouble?"
"No good, it’s all interference noise," Dantai yelled, hearing nothing but irritating static.
The leader’s neck spurted blood, yet he still didn’t die, struggling, his eyes blood-red, entering a berserk state.
"That doesn’t prove Little Red Riding Hood is the BOSS though. Could there be someone else out to kill her and her grandmother?" Dantai pondered another possibility, "Could it be a vampire?"
"It’s Little Red Riding Hood’s mother who wants to kill the grandmother!" the werewolf leader suddenly roared, "You vile humans, all deserve to die!"
"Fuck, what the hell is going on?" Dantai stumbled and was knocked aside, getting up and cursing loudly, "From the sound of it, it seems you want to save Grandma?"
"No wonder something felt off, it just brought Grandma out without holding her hostage, just casually pulling her along. I thought it didn’t see her as a threat and didn’t bother choking her or anything!" Mu Nianqi suddenly realized, greatly cursing her own carelessness, "But no worries, there’s still time. After slaughtering this monster, we’ll go kill Little Red Riding Hood’s mother."
"That doesn’t make sense either. If the mother wants to kill Grandma, then who kills Little Red Riding Hood?" Tang Zheng couldn’t come up with an answer, "It couldn’t be Grandma, could it? According to the information from the higher vampires, Little Red Riding Hood and Grandma are very close."
As the three of them exchanged opinions, they didn’t lose focus; their attacks became more and more severe. The team leader, facing the assault from two fourth-order attackers, struggled fiercely and blood stains continued to appear on his body.
Dantai concentrated and launched a few dozen Ghost Bombs silently and swiftly like blowing soap bubbles, bombarding the team leader. The attack was unavoidable, exploding on him like maggots on bones, stunning him briefly and causing a splitting headache.
Mu Nianqi activated the Northern Wind Ring, sending out air blades that whooshed through the air and slashed large pieces of flesh from the team leader, like a slow dismemberment.
Tang Zheng dodged the team leader’s attack and thrust his sword called Xuedaimaru into its mouth, piercing through the back of its head.
The team leader issued a mournful groan from its throat, and Tang Zheng, gripping the sword’s hilt tightly, slashed sideways, splitting its cheeks open.
A warrior appeared behind the team leader, smashing a warhammer into the back of its head, and then drew a bronze sword with his left hand, stabbing into its neck, penetrating it, followed by a pull that sliced half of its neck open.
The team leader’s head drooped to one side as it spurted a great amount of blood and collapsed thunderously to the ground, dead.
"We only got two stars, and not even a piece of equipment?" Dantai felt incredibly disappointed. For their level, not gaining any equipment was like working for free.
"Stop talking and let’s go!" Taking control of gravity, Tang Zheng gathered two seeds in his hand, and following Mu Nianqi, who had already smashed through the villa’s wall, they rushed out.
"Something really went wrong!" Mu Nianqi glanced back at the battlefield and saw fire spreading through the Tree Forest, and a light-hearted giggle resonated in the night sky.
A moment earlier, Bai Guo, holding Grandma, had rushed back to the squad, immediately greeted by cheers. The newbies were thrilled, thinking they had succeeded.
"Where is everyone else?" Song Xin strained on her tiptoes, not seeing Tang Zheng’s figure, and felt worried.
"They’re fighting the werewolf boss!" Bai Guo set down Grandma, pretending to be exhausted and gasping for breath, not wanting to go support the Old Soldier.
"Grandma, what’s wrong? Wake up!" Little Red Riding Hood ran to her grandmother’s side, and seeing her comatose, cried until her face was overwhelmed with tears.
Gu Xueqi snapped her fingers and launched a Young Phoenix at Grandma’s forehead. It burrowed in and quickly took effect, making Grandma moan softly as she came to.
"What do we do? Wait for Tang Zheng, or evacuate first?" Li Xinlan asked, immediately drawing the crowd’s attention. It was clearly unsafe here, and the newbies didn’t want to stay, but unfortunately, they had no say.
The Conquerors looked at each other, remaining silent. They were wary of Tang Zheng; if the Group Leader came back and heard someone suggested leaving, there would be hell to pay.
"No, communication’s down." Gu Xueqi reacted the fastest, trying to contact the Group Leader, but the walkie-talkie was useless.
"Damn Trojan, I know why they stopped selling communications equipment—it’s just to make things harder for us." Teng Yuangxiang complained, looking at Gu Xueqi, "You’re always calm, so you handle it."
Teng Little Three complimented Gu Xiaohua, trying to get on her good side.
"We won’t leave; we’ll wait for Tang Zheng!" Gu Xueqi immediately suggested, absolutely infuriated inside. Teng Little Three was really stupid. She understood Teng Yuangxiang’s point, but the approach was wrong. This kind of issue was like putting oneself on a spit over fire. Comparing her qualifications, she wasn’t on par with Pang Meiqin, let alone Ruan Feifei. If she voiced her opinion, she would offend many.
Then there were Zhao Dongtao and Jing Lan, Tang Zheng’s classmates, who would never leave. Not to mention Song Xin, who was lovestruck—she’d probably do anything for Tang Zheng. And then there was Tao Ran, silent as ever; even if everyone else left, she would likely stay.
"We can’t go; we need to go support Tang Zheng!" Zhao Dongtao, true to his brotherhood, showed no hesitation and wanted to head to the villa for help.
"Don’t add to the chaos." Jing Lan held back his classmate. "Your level is only good for simple tasks. Protecting Grandma and Little Red Riding Hood is the most important thing."
Compared to the frantic Song Xin, Jing Lan was much more rational.
"Hey, look quick, something’s wrong with the old lady!" Zhao Yunwu, guarding next to Grandma, called out, and everyone hurried to gather around.
"Everyone step back, keep the air flow," instructed Gu Xueqi, who had been studying medical books to teach herself better healing skills since she gained healing abilities, allowing her to perform better in treatment tasks and earn the team’s respect.
