Chapter 1283: Chapter 37 Newbie Problems
"Don’t!" The nurse’s head was violently poked by the Demon Slaying Holy Flame, her entire cheek smashed against the floor, her nosebleed flowing freely. The pain was so intense that she struggled violently, her legs kicking wildly, her shoes came off.
Bang, the young nurse’s head exploded, her skull spinning as it flew away. The white brain pulp mixed with fresh blood scattered around; her neck cracked open, revealing a segment of her spine – the sight was utterly horrific.
The demon hunter kicked the still-twitching corpse aside and raised his gun to shoot at Sun Jingshan.
Sun Jingshan dove to the side, the shotgun pellets creating a dense pattern of bullet holes in the wall. He rolled a few times in succession and then scrambled up to charge fiercely forward.
The demon hunter relentlessly pursued him, failing to notice the Time-space Blackfish that appeared behind him; it bit off half of his head with a single bite. He fell over, and the Demon Slaying Holy Flame clattered to the ground, sliding away.
Sun Jingshan ran back, picked up the weapon, and ferociously opened fire on the demon hunter. He was courageous, but too straightforward, while Zhao Yunwu was more cunning, doing nothing more than ensuring his own survival.
Over two hundred dual-headed dragons rushed into the lobby, continuously spitting lightning. After the initial chaotic battle, the demon hunters split into several small teams, hunting down the survivors.
The newbies fled in disarray, while the Conquerors were unable to organize an effective defense formation, each fighting their own battles. However, their formidable strength meant they faced little danger against the demon hunters.
Tang Zheng slashed down a demon hunter, glanced at the battle situation, and noted Li Xinlan, Bai Guo, and Dantai mixed together, etching it into his memory. He hadn’t forgotten to observe the performance of the team members, identifying the impostors.
Zhao Dongtao and the policewoman were fighting, followed by Jing Lan and Song Xin. They were all staying safe within Tao Ran’s Sighing Barrier for the time being.
"Dong Tao, come this way!" shouted Tang Zheng. Either all these people were for real or none were, as they were all from the same batch and thus stayed together. If only one or two were fake, they should have been exposed. Of course, if the impostors were superb actors, then even Tang Zheng couldn’t do much.
"Got it, be careful," Zhao Dong Tao replied. Using himself as a meat shield, he took the forefront. "Zixuan, can you kill a monster for me so I can grab a gun? This machine gun is too weak."
"No problem," Dong Zixuan said, waving her hand. A stream of lava erupted from beneath the feet of a few charging demon hunters, encasing them thoroughly. The Time-space Blackfish and the Ghost Reaper came out, attacking those that slipped through.
"Impressive!" Zhao Dongtao crouched and ran to pick up a Demon Slaying Holy Flame, then hurried back.
"They must all be real," Tang Zheng mused, still not at ease. Zhao Dong Tao’s big male chauvinist personality wouldn’t have allowed him to act as a meat shield otherwise, and the other four girls, unaware of conserving their strength, were all going full firepower, foolishly. If they were impostors, they definitely would be looking to preserve their strength.
Teng Yuangxiang, like a tail, followed closely behind Tang Zheng, also slyly picking off the wounded - anyway, with the Group Leader present, she wasn’t worried about her safety.
Pang Meiqin was quite fierce, taking on a team of demon hunters single-handedly. Amid the deafening sound of motors, her right hand’s Ripper cleaved through a demon hunter with each slash—either severing them at the waist or cutting diagonally from the shoulder. The left hand’s Weirdo One fired green light beams, disorienting and forcing them to move as she desired, facilitating the kill. To the onlooker, it appeared as though the demon hunters were lining up for her blade.
A dual-headed dragon trampled the ground, lunging forward. Pang Meiqin activated her Tell-Death Angels, the Power Furnace shooting out blue light beams as she charged past the dragon like lightning. After beheading another demon hunter, the dragon’s belly suddenly burst open with a straight line of fresh blood, its visceral innards pouring out.
Qin Yan’s attacks were standard, nothing unexpected, and Gu Xueqi was temporarily teamed up with Lin Weiguo without much cover.
Lin Fachan took an arrow to the back but still did his best to protect his girlfriend, causing a group of university girls to look on with envy.
Mu Nianqi led Jing Xiang, Ai Yixin, and others, though they didn’t need to lift a finger. Holding her Curved knife, Queen Mu didn’t look at all flustered, effortlessly killing demon hunters. Her body was surrounded by semi-transparent blades of air that could double as shields or be projected outward to behead her enemies.
If not for her need to observe the Observation Team, Mu Nianqi would have already been commanding the battle. These ’tactics’ were embarrassingly unsophisticated. However, she quickly discarded such contempt.
"Perhaps Tang Zheng has also noticed the problem," Mu Nianqi snuck a peek at Tang Zheng and noted that his expression didn’t reveal any abnormalities, which meant there was an issue.
"What’s the rush? All Conquerors, on my command, form combat teams, activate your Seeds, go full firepower, and annihilate the Punishment Squad." After sufficient observation, Tang Zheng finally began to direct the combat. This chaos actually posed the least threat to him, but for the newbies, it was a catastrophe.
The demon hunters were only most lethal when mounted on the backs of dual-headed dragons, fighting in open terrain. Once indoors, it was like cutting off their own arm.
The impostors, knowing Tang Zheng’s prestige within the team, dared not slack off too much and started exerting force. As such, the tide of battle turned. Five minutes later, the lobby was littered with corpses.
The Conquerors gathered the Seeds nearby and handed them over to Tang Zheng.
"Let’s go back, and we’ll divide them equally later," Tang Zheng said without ceremony, collecting them all.
"Group Leader, could you possibly..." Zhao Yunwu licked his lips, wanting to ask but was interrupted before he could finish by Teng Yuangxiang.
"No, you can’t."
Zhao Yunwu didn’t dare to talk back, just looked at Tang Zheng and gave his assurance, "I will fight hard."
"Activating a Seed requires twelve hours of sleep; if there’s time, I’ll give one to you, of course, in exchange for your performance," Tang Zheng didn’t mind giving newbies Black Iron, but they had to prove their worth.
"I will," Zhao Yunwu hastily promised, while the other newbies watched with eagerness; a guy with a prominent front tooth glanced around and called out, "Group Leader, could you let us keep them?"
Tang Zheng stared at the man with the prominent front tooth, his gaze cold as ice, and the guy instantly felt as if he’d fallen into an ice cave, beads of sweat forming on his forehead.
Other university students didn’t understand why the suggestion was objectionable, but Zhao Yunwu immediately did.
"He couldn’t have thought of that, could he?" The front-toothed guy still had hope, but Tang Zheng exposed his intent.
"Are you thinking of taking the Seed, activating your Ability recklessly, and then ignoring everything else?" Tang Zheng casually tossed the Seed up and down, a mocking smile spilling from his lips, "Don’t rush to deny it, I would do the same because there would be two possibilities: one, we would be furious, abandon you, which for you, is the worst case scenario. However, you’d still be alive, and with an Ability, you’d feel much safer alone than with the newbies following us."
These words were accusatory, and the front-toothed guy didn’t dare to respond.
"Secondly, you think that as an ability user, you are too valuable, and we will swallow our anger, take you in, and protect you. This, for you, is the best outcome. At worst, we might give you a beating after you awaken, but you believe that no matter how angry we are, we couldn’t possibly kill an ability user, right?"
The front-toothed guy remained silent, but the look on his face told everyone Tang Zheng had hit the nail on the head. The university students then thought it through more carefully and started to regard Tang Zheng with different ideas.
"Naive, what if you die in those twelve hours of sleep?" Jing Lan thought these college students were despicable, always playing petty tricks.
"Heh, Basket, he doesn’t believe at all the story about sleeping for twelve hours," Tang Zheng picked up a Black Iron Seed, tossed it to the front-toothed guy, "As a newbie getting a Seed for the first time, you get the chance to ask a question, go ahead and ask Trojan."
All the newbies’ gazes shifted his way.
The pressure was immense on the front-toothed guy. He knew that if he asked a question, even if the Group Leader didn’t kill him now, he wouldn’t have a place in the Warhammer team in the future, but he couldn’t resist the temptation to survive. He was betting that the Group Leader, in order to maintain a good image, would let him off—so he asked.
In the dead silence of the lobby, all eyes were pinned on the front-toothed guy, with Teng Yuangxiang gritting her teeth in frustration, wishing she could slaughter him.
"Well?" Noticing the front-toothed guy snap back to reality, everyone bombarded him with questions.
"Idiot," Zhao Yunwu cursed under his breath. Someone was bound to lose patience, so why stick his neck out and displease the Group Leader?
"It indeed requires twelve hours of sleep," the front-toothed guy clenched the Seed, not immediately returning it to Tang Zheng. He was waiting for the Group Leader’s mercy, meanwhile rapidly thinking about how to leverage the situation as a newbie to get a Seed.
"Hand it over!" Teng Yuangxiang couldn’t hold back any longer, snatching the Seed. She restrained herself from kicking the front-toothed guy, which was already generous.
"Sun Jingshan, catch," as the newbies wallowed in disappointment, Tang Zheng suddenly tossed the Seed to Sun Jingshan, transforming their expressions into that of surprise.
"You’re brave; don’t disappoint me," Tang Zheng was generous with rewards, pulling out a Thunderstorm Rifle and handing it to him, "Strive to survive. For your contributions to the team, if you’re injured, I’ll provide treatment and potions. By the way, that Demon Slaying Holy Flame isn’t bad."
"Thank you," Sun Jingshan was deeply moved, and the other newbies also felt Tang Zheng was impressive, enviously observing their classmate’s good fortune.
"Tch, bribing people with worthless Level A Props, how unoriginal," Mu Nianqi sneered, "We should go, right? We’ve wasted enough time."
In less than ten minutes, the Warhammer Team had acquired several cars. Tang Zheng checked the map; since Little Red Riding Hood’s home was closer, they decided to check there first. If no one was there, they’d move to the Orphanage.
"Is this the place?" Jing Lan looked up at the apartment on the street corner, "The light’s still on this late; they mustn’t be asleep. What do we do?"
"Just barge in," Teng Yuangxiang saw no danger and headed towards the Main Entrance. Pulling out a Handgun, she was about to blast the lock when a Bullet suddenly struck her in the back.
"Ambush!" Teng Yuangxiang was startled, swiftly deploying her Defense Shield and turning around to unleash Full Firepower in the direction of the incoming Bullet, initiating Firepower Suppression.
Teng Little Three was clever, not rushing into the room after assessing that the Bullet couldn’t harm her. Given the attack they’d just faced, she presumed the inside wouldn’t be safe either.
