Chapter 1228: Chapter 93: Showing Off_2
With a bang, the Licker’s head was blown off, and its corpse, due to inertia, still lunged forward, but was then kicked forcefully away by Tang Zheng lifting his right leg. Like a battering ram, it knocked over a swath of zombies in front of him.
Tang Zheng rapidly followed up with additional shots. Although there was no muzzle flame to be seen, the sound of gunfire and the continuous thudding of zombies being struck down and bursting apart on the ground could be heard.
A woman’s upper body was gone, only her legs adorned in black garter stockings lay on the steps. Rong He swallowed hard, feeling it was a pity; this woman must have had a great figure.
"Hold on a second." Crouching at the exit, Tang Zheng surveyed the street, which was a complete mess. Everywhere there were pedestrians being chased by zombies, some cars had overturned and caught fire with no one to rescue them, and from the surrounding buildings, screams kept emerging.
"Where are you guys?" Dong Zixuan, clutching the walkie-talkie, asked a question. As time went on, the number of zombies was only going to increase.
"Nearly there, five more minutes." Kong Licheng had acquired the Howling Reaper from the Grenade Macho and was presently in high spirits, massacring the blind zombies closing in on the bus, leaving a trail of corpses behind him. During the rampage, he spotted a special infected. If he hadn’t been somewhat restrained, he would have loved to have a real slaughter; if it dropped a Seed, he’d hit the jackpot.
The newbies weren’t stupid; even without Tang Zheng having to say anything, they could guess that, apart from killing monsters, there was no other way to get Seeds. Of course, they could capture them from killing other Group Leaders too; however, they weren’t conceited enough to reach that point. Just one look at Tang Zheng was enough to give them an idea of how powerful Group Leaders were, totally out of the league for small fries like them to contend with.
"We can’t just wait here doing nothing; I’m going to hijack a car." Without waiting for the others to object, Tang Zheng had already dashed onto Main Street. The Survival Game had only been going on for two days, and out of a team of nearly two hundred people, only a bit over twenty survived; truly deserving of being a battle for Holy Land tickets, with a frighteningly high elimination rate.
Around ten cars were stopped in front of the traffic lights, including a Hummer, which was exactly what Tang Zheng wanted. He ran over the sidewalk.
A few meters away, a wandering zombie, upon hearing the sound of Tang Zheng’s breathing and footsteps, had just turned its head when a bullet burst its brain. As its body fell backward, its heart was also penetrated.
Tang Zheng cleared out several zombies that ran over upon hearing the noise, taking less than thirty seconds to reach the Hummer. He then saw a middle-aged male zombie in the driver’s seat, face rotting, mouth wide open, ceaselessly pounding on the car window, desperate to come out. Upon seeing Tang Zheng, it became even more frenzied.
There could be a maximum of five people inside. Tang Zheng didn’t bother to check. Standing behind the car door, gripping the handle, he suddenly opened it, and the middle-aged zombie lunged out with such force that even the seatbelt broke, sending him tumbling to the ground.
Pop, pop, two shots from Tang Zheng exploded the zombie’s head. A female zombie dressed in a dress sat in the passenger seat, roaring at him and struggling violently.
To avoid dirtying the interior of the car, Tang Zheng opened the other door, pulled out the Dog Leg Knife, and cut through the seatbelt.
"What’s he trying to do?" Rong He, who had been watching Tang Zheng intently, felt he was being far too reckless; this move nearly brought him into contact with the zombie’s hand.
The female zombie regained her freedom and eagerly reached for the food in front of her. Tang Zheng sidestepped and slapped its claw away with the back of the knife.
The female zombie emitted a low growl from her throat as she lunged again.
Swish, the Dog Leg Knife sliced through, and the female zombie’s head flew into the air. Before the tentacles could emerge from her neck, Tang Zheng swung the knife once more, its blade cutting in from her shoulder, slicing through her heart, splitting her upper body in two.
The female zombie fell to the ground, her left breast chopped in half and devoid of any aesthetic appeal. Tang Zheng kicked her aside and was about to peer into the carriage when a black shadow bore down on him.
"There’s one more!" Tang Zheng remained remarkably calm, swiftly retreating.
In front of him was the head of a little girl zombie, now decomposing and emitting a foul stench. She was inches from biting Tang Zheng’s neck when a heavy punch landed on her forehead, sending her tumbling back into the seat.
"Probably a family of three." The little girl zombie crawled out, continuing her relentless attempt to bite Tang Zheng.
Tang Zheng sighed and swung his knife, severing her head and piercing her heart.
"Be careful." The delay and struggle alerted the nearby zombies, who began to gather. Dong Zixuan saw it and couldn’t help but shout.
"What are you yelling for? How could Tang Zheng possibly not see them?" The traffic policeman was furious. This woman was really a blabbermouth. Look, her shouting alerted the zombies to their presence.
"The policewoman is really adorably stupid!" Tang Zheng had of course seen the approaching zombie horde, and though Dong Zixuan’s shout exposed their position, he felt somewhat relieved that he didn’t give his abilities away to an ungrateful person.
To conserve energy, Tang Zheng sheathed his Dog Leg Knife and raised his Desert Eagle, firing a burst that toppled many zombies. Then, as they drew closer, he jumped onto the roof of the Hummer and quickly changed the Ammo Clip. Before they could grab his ankle, he killed them all.
About a dozen zombies ran towards Dong Zixuan and the others hiding at the subway entrance. Lacking Tang Zheng’s strength and courage in close combat, they opened fire in panic, attracting another horde.
"Cease fire, I’ve got this!" Tang Zheng made a hand signal, ducking into the Hummer to kill zombies. Just as he was finishing up, the Greyhound bus finally appeared.
"Get on quickly!" Before the bus had even stopped, Liu Guohao had already opened the door, shouting anxiously. Thirty meters behind the rear end of the bus, a large group of zombies, including three Lickers with their frightening speed, were surging forward. The newbies had poor marksmanship and struggled to kill these special infected, relying on firepower suppression which was a waste of bullets.
"Get on quick!" Tang Zheng took out a Hand Grenade, pulled the pin, gauged the correct timing, and threw it. It rolled right next to two Lickers.
Boom, the two fastest Lickers were blown away. Tang Zheng raised his gun and shot the third one dead.
The newbies sighed in relief, feeling secured after seeing Tang Zheng’s performance. This made Kong Licheng and the traffic policeman, who watched their expressions, sigh and feel despondent -- they simply couldn’t compare to Tang Zheng.
The bus was almost undamaged, so Tang Zheng abandoned the Hummer and ran aboard. With no casualties except for Song Xin still asleep, everyone else gripped their guns and manned the windows, joining the fight.
"Well done, now let’s get out of the city, Liu Guohao, you drive." In such situations, it was better if the half-trained Huang Long didn’t embarrass himself. Tang Zheng put down his Backpack and sat down to rest. "Jing Lan, take care of Eve."
The girl’s face was full of fear, like a lost and helpless rabbit. Tang Zheng had no time to cheer her up; the map of New York was already prepared, and the retreat route had been studied. What Liu Guohao needed to do was to get the bus out of the city as quickly as possible.
"Why aren’t the military and the police coming?" Zombies were pursuing humans on Long Street, and Su Su was trembling with fear.
"You’re being wishful. Soldiers can turn into zombies too." Zhou Meng patted Su Su’s hand. "Don’t worry, with me here, you’ll be fine."
"There must be some who haven’t turned, right?" Su Su had just finished speaking when she felt the bus jerk sharply, swinging towards the other side, and she was thrown onto the ground by the force.
"What kind of driving is that?" Kong Licheng complained, as people inside were tossed about chaotically.
Two Armored vehicles and a Truck suddenly burst out from the crossroad, slamming against the bus with their hefty bodies. Fortunately, Liu Guohao’s quick reflexes missed the collision by a hair’s breadth. He braked hard before the bus could surge onto the sidewalk and crash into a building.
A zombie was crushed under the wheels, reduced to meat sauce.
The newbies sitting on the right saw the armored vehicles almost scraping past the bus and broke out in a cold sweat. Liu Guohao was still shaken when he heard Tang Zheng shouting.
"Drive, now." Tang Zheng shot the Howling Reaper out the window, firing at the fully armed policemen emerging from the Armored vehicles in a continuous stream.
Gunshots raged; two policemen fell, but the others didn’t retreat. They fired at the bus and even threw hand grenades.
"Drive, now!" Tang Zheng yelled, not allowing the newbies to counterattack. Under such close-range firepower suppression, even he didn’t dare to raise his head; otherwise, he would definitely become the target of concentrated fire. (To be continued.
