Chapter 1212: Chapter 82: Combat and the Yellow Sparrow - Part 2
There were no gunshots, deadly silent, and the situation seemed to have entered a stalemate.
"Attack forcefully, attack forcefully!" the walkie-talkie continuously transmitted the roars of the Americans, but there were no gunshots. Tang Zheng’s eyes shifted, and he understood what was happening, "Come out, it’s okay, the enemy has retreated."
Kong Licheng and his group weren’t that bold, still waiting. The policewoman, brave and spirited, took the initiative to check next door; indeed, there was no one there.
"Where did they go?" the policewoman asked, puzzled.
"Check the window, they must have escaped by ropes." Tang Zheng stuffed the machine gun into his bag and turned to search the fallen soldiers for ammunition, "Be careful of headshots."
Dong Zixuan was about to peer out but stopped when she heard Tang Zheng’s hints, taking cover by the wall instead. She took a quick glance and, sure enough, saw a parachute rope tied to the window frame.
The American team leader had failed to eradicate his foes and had lost several subordinates, which made him so frustrated he nearly spat blood. Moreover, the most problematic thing was that their possession of abilities had been exposed.
"Leader, next time, we can definitely kill them," a soldier in casual clothes who stuffed his rifle into his backpack said while keeping watch. He complained, "If it hadn’t been for a bunch of unexpected, unknown forces, with our tactics, we would have captured those fools early."
"It seems like the opposing team’s leader showed up and handled it well. If I had known they had ability users, I would’ve had Bront activate Dark Vision directly," the American leader regretted. After obtaining a seed, he had tried giving it to a ranger and unexpectedly succeeded in activating an ability. He intended to use it as a trump card, but revealing it would surely cause many troubles as sometimes a bit of information could create a significant advantage.
"The outcome of this game clearly depends on how the leaders manage the newbies, the more abilities the newbies activate, the greater the chances of victory," commented the team leader, whose capabilities had greatly impressed these soldiers.
"Leader, something’s not right; I saw they were using an MG3, but the bullets fired were definitely .50 caliber," said the soldier from next door, escaping out and imparting the suspicious findings to the leader.
"Hmm? Howling Reaper? That’s not right, this round should have limited prop usage. Did they kill a monster to get equipment?" The American team leader stroked his chin, pondering carefully, "Or did they have another way to acquire weapons?"
The soldiers hid in an alley, keeping silent, fearful of disturbing the leader’s thoughts.
"Spread out, hold each intersection, watch them, and try not to engage," the leader decided to kidnap a newbie, figuring he might get some answers; before then, he did not want to fight since their own Dark Vision was supportive, but the opponent’s magma was enough to kill them all instantly.
"Roger that." The soldiers nodded their heads and immediately scattered around the building.
"If it weren’t for you coming just in time, we might have been done for," Zhao Dongtao sat on the ground, gasping for air with lingering fear.
"How bad are Tong Dahong’s injury?" Tang Zheng saw that Kong Licheng wasn’t familiar with handling these things and walked over to crouch beside him, seeing his clothes torn open and a bullet hole in his abdomen, with Kong Licheng pressing down on it, hands covered in blood.
"Don’t worry, he won’t die, he’s lucky. The bullet pierced through the skin and didn’t stay in the body," Tang Zheng was reluctant to use a Rapid Recovery Elixir on Tong Dahong and just bandaged the wound simply.
"Any more bandages and alcohol?" a bloodied Ding Jian and Nie Jianhua came over, looking wretched.
Tang Zheng passed a pack of bandages, but alcohol and band-aids were out of the question; these cowards weren’t worth wasting resources on.
"Little Zhou, give me a hand," Ding Jian wanted Zhou Meng to help him with the bandaging, but the latter glanced and ignored him.
Ding Jian was exceptionally embarrassed and looked towards Zhao Dongtao, who didn’t bother with him at all; everyone looked down on these two who knew only to dodge and hadn’t fired a single shot.
"Stop struggling, just bandage me first." Nie Jianhua still took advantage of the situation at this time, and Ding Jian knew that arguing was just wasting time, so he agreed.
"Alright, time to leave, but the efficiency of the American police is really slow," Tang Zheng said. He didn’t bother washing his hands, but simply left with his backpack. He didn’t know that Trojan had covered up the battle here; otherwise, the police would have arrived earlier.
Zhang Antai’s corpse was thrown aside, ignored by everyone.
"Which way should we leave?" Zhao Dongtao still had some concerns, while Kong Licheng was staring blankly at the machine gun in Rong He’s hands, "Where did you get that?"
"Traded body parts for it," Rong He naturally spiced up his narrative a bit, which led the others to realize that Tang Zheng had lost an eye.
"That’s ruthless!" Kong Licheng gave a thumbs up. He felt he was daring, but could absolutely not reach the level of Tang Zheng’s ferocity, who completely disregarded his own life.
Dong Zixuan seemed to be seeing Tang Zheng for the first time and kept sizing up his figure. Although Tang Zheng had no abilities, she felt that if they ever confronted each other, she would certainly be the one to die.
"Not having completely killed the other side, and having used Howling Reaper, I estimate this matter will leak out. If the other side isn’t foolish, they will definitely be tracking us," Tang Zheng blocked everyone on the second floor. "You go first, head in this direction. Don’t hesitate on the road, otherwise your flaws will be exposed; I’ll cover the retreat and kill those who are tracking us."
Ding Jian and Nie Jianhua, who had initially wanted to get back to the bus earlier to treat their injuries, immediately panicked on hearing there would be more fighting.
"What about Eve? Our goal is him. Is it okay to delay here?" Ding Jian was quick thinking and didn’t say he was scared.
"Exactly, if they have already found Eve and stayed behind just to kill more of us, now, seeing our strength, they might shrink back and leave with Eve, especially since they need to return him to Simpson," Nie Jianhua also chimed in. "Trojan didn’t reveal Simpson’s location. What if he’s in another state? We might not have enough time."
"With a capable newbie around, do you think their group leader won’t be here? To stay behind for the kill? It’s unlikely. It’s very possible that we’re running into a trap, and someone else might get to him first. Of course, your possibility also exists. But if it were me, upon discovering that the other side has powerful weapons, I would definitely try to capture a captive and interrogate," Tang Zheng waved his hand to prevent Nie Jianhua from continuing. "You two had better do as I said. If something goes wrong, don’t blame me for being merciless."
"What about Dahong’s injuries? He needs treatment," Dong Zixuan agreed that Tang Zheng was right, but Tong Dahong clearly needed to rest.
"Endure it for a bit, just ten more minutes," Tang Zheng said, holding a walkie-talkie and contacting Jing Lan in the car, instructing them to drive to a specified location to wait. He actually also wanted to capture a captive. It was crucial to find out where Eve was.
Dong Zixuan wasn’t foolish. Following Tang Zheng’s instructions, after leaving the building, she looked around pretending to check if anyone was following and then helped Tong Dahong retreat.
Within thirty seconds, a soldier emerged from a nearby shop, said a few words into his walkie-talkie, and then followed after them.
Tang Zheng wasn’t in a hurry. Since the route remained the same, he waited. Sure enough, in less than a minute, a group of men, although dressed in casual clothes but with an unmistakable tough demeanor, gradually appeared and followed behind the team.
"It seems I underestimated your determination," Tang Zheng looked left and right, ensuring no one else appeared, and then quickly ran out of the building, pretending to be a pedestrian and followed them.
From the rooftop of the neighboring building, a man was lying at the edge, using a telescope to take in everything below. Beside him lay an SVD sniper rifle.
"Group Leader, the targets have appeared, two teams. Are we still following the plan?" The man, chewing gum, sounded somewhat pessimistic. "Their team has ability users, and the Chinese team is carrying a ’package’, obviously aware of the secret of the vending machine you mentioned as the Easter Egg. Didn’t you say this was precious? Why does it seem worthless now?"
"Nonsense, among a thousand group leaders, it’s good if even one knows about it. Moreover, everyone who entered this time is ranked among the top two hundred group leaders, so what’s so strange about a few having accurate information?" The group leader spoke with a strong accent, showing contempt. "What of the package? Take it by force anyway." (To be continued.
